“Awesome boutique Hotel, but quite expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2012

During our journey through Sicily we stayed one night at this lovely boutique hotel in Siracusa. It is located about 10-15 minutes from the old town called Ortigia after the port of Siracusa. We appreciated very much the clean, modern and spacious room (Room Nr. 9, 2nd floor), equiped with all you need, the clean and sandy beach and the good food. The complete hotel is decorated with much taste and style. Every morning the whole beach is reked and cleaned by friendly staff.

The breakfast was abundant and with high quality products and also for lunch we were served a very nice local pasta. The service was all the time flawless, exept that we had to wait for our Room until 3 pm. But this was easy as we could relax at the beach. All of the staff speak english, which is not self-evident in Italy. Positive: free wi-fi at the hotel and at the beach area

Manager Laura told us that they are about to extend the hotel. A building next to the hotel is currently under construction. You might experience some noise from the building lot.

The only reason why we do not rate this hotel with 5 stars is that it is quite expensive. The rate for our room for one night was 260 Euro. And for a small little plate of (though excellent) pasta we were charged 20 Euro each, which is quite expensive compared with other hotels and restaurants in Sicily.

All things considered, it was a very pleasant stay at Musciara Resort and we almost regretted that we only could stay one night there.

We enjoyed 5 nights here. This family run boutique hotel has a wonderful calming effect on the soul and really is an oasis. Great front of house, fabulous food, disgreet but attentive staff who cannot do enough for you. Thank you all so very much and Cathrine and I will be back to see you.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June after our wedding in Taormina and it was the prefect place to hole up and relax. The hotel is beautifully restored and decorated, it is calming, peaceful and an escape from the outside world. We stayed in a superior room with a balcony and full frontal sea view, which is spectacular. The rooms are stylish and beds are very comfy with great air conditioning, although it was lovely at night to leave the balcony doors open and fall asleep to the sound of the sea lapping on the shore below.
Breakfasts are very good with lots of choice and the staff are very helpful and obliging, especially Tanuja from Sri Lanka who is just lovely. We had been given a bottle of champagne as a wedding gift which we had taken with us to the hotel, and staff were very happy for us to bring it down and drink it on the beach, and provided us with glasses and an ice bucket without hesitation. The beach is amazing and being able to go for a swim/dip to cool off was a huge draw for us.
We ate a delicious dinner in the hotel one night, on the terrace at the water's edge, cooked by owner Laura's mama - real Sicilian home cooking.
Some reviews we read before our visit complained about the location of the hotel but we did not find this a problem in the slightest, in fact we enjoyed the 15-20 minute walk into gorgeous Ortigia and back again. we also walked to the ancient Greek amphitheatre and roman ruins one day, which took about half an hour and although it was a hot day we had a cooling dip in the sea to look forward to on our return!
Ortigia itself is stunning - beautiful architecture, very few non-Italian tourists, great food and hidden bars.
We could have happily stayed at Musciara for 3 weeks, let alone 3 nights, and will definitely be returning when we go back to Sicily (hopefully for our first anniversary!)

Room Tip: Consider upgrading to a superior room with balcony facing the sea, instead of a side room which has...

We had a great stay at this small little hotel, which has a wonderful staff, especially the nice lady from Sri Lanka, has its own wonderful beach and is not far from Ortigia. So the ideal spot to spend some relaxing days in this beautiful part of Sicily.

Two little things should be improved: The Cappuccino in the morning should be a real Italian one from a Cimbali machine or similar ("scambiatori") and not a coffee pad one...Doors in the hotels make loud noises when opening or closing, so you hear anyone coming in and going out of their rooms. Some felt around the door frames could help...

A part from that: Wonderful!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea

We arrived late in the evening after driving from Catania airport, tired and stressed, to be met by perfect calm, discretion and kindness.

Although we hadn't booked dinner after checking into our stylish room overlooking the little beach we had a peaceful and delicious dinner at the water's edge served by a delightful young girl called Taneja. From our table we could see Ortigia, the ancient nucleus of Siracusa, now blessed with beautiful baroque buildings and restored thanks to UNESCO.

Getting to Ortigia is just a 15 minute walk away but far enough to be out of the hustle and bustle. The building, originally a tuna fishery - and named after the tuna fishing boats - has been interestingly restored but still retains its original character.

It really is a difficult choice whether to stay the whole time in the spoiling small private beach atmosphere, just off the old fishing jetty, and gaze at Ortigia or whether to get galvanised into action and go and explore. Both are worthwhile.

Next time we will spend more than two nights. Many thanks to Laura, who runs this delightful boutique, and her excellent staff. We will come back next time we're in Sicily - a good place to start an exploration of this enchanted island.

Ruth and Patrick, London, UK

Room Tip: Overlooking the beach is good but overlooking the sea is better.

If you want a beach-side hotel in Syracuse, then this hotel is the one for you. The beach is man-made as the coastline here is rocky but it's lovely nonetheless. Eating breakfast within a yard of the sea was a great way to start the day and the buffet was excellent, plus each day we were offered a different, freshly-baked Sardinian speciality. The public areas are very stylishly decorated but the rooms are small. There were also a few niggles created by style over substance - there were no drawers, only hanging space in the wardrobe so we had to leave half of our clothes in the suitcase, which we had to lift onto the bed each time we wanted to find something as there was no space on the floor. The bedside tables are tiny leather shelves which can only hold a glass of water. The bathroom was tiny and there was no shelf under the bathroom mirror - a challenge for girls who need somewhere to put on their make-up! I also felt slightly uneasy about the subservient attitude of the lovely Sri Lankan girl who did most of the work. She was dressed in what looked like an old-fashioned, blue and white striped maid's outfit which covered her from neck to mid-calf and she bustled around in a harried way that made her seem like a skivvy. That said, we didn't have a problem with noise and it was great apart from the bustle of town but just a 15 minute walk away.

Room Tip: The rooms on the opposite side to the street also face the sea.

My wife and I enjoyed 2 nights here in May. Friendly staff, good breakfast, beautiful beach and lovely view of Ortygia. Only a 15 minute stroll takes you to the heart of the island for great restaurants and shopping. The only negative is that the location is a little sketch. The marina next door and the apartments around the corner were dirty and a little unsavory. Even knowing this, I would definitely stay here again. Don't miss hanging out with Buddy the dog on the beach! He's a beautiful golden retriever!

Room Tip: Get a room on the water side.
