We had a very enjoyable stay here and found the hotel modern with very helpful staff and its location ideal, being just a short way outside of Ortigia. Excellent breakfasts and very clean and comfortable rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

This was a very pleasant, comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent, and the room was very nice, and clean. The location was central, and it was easy to walk to Ortygia and enjoy the beautiful Piazza and its architecture. Make sure you see the Caravaggio, too...

After having read some reviews, I was very apprehensive about this hotel, but it had been booked by our tour company. It was still undergoing renovations while we were there. My room looked brand new (and I checked the mattress for bugs and was relieved to find none). A piece of the flush apparatus of the toilet fell off in the night, because it had been stuck on with a bit of putty). The accommodations were fine. The woman at the desk was the rudest I have encountered anywhere. She was busy with personal phone calls all evening and would ignore anyone standing at the desk. The phones were disabled for outside lines, so calling cards could not be used. She admitted this at first, but then continued to say that I wasn't dialing correctly. (It's not that difficult to dial 0). It was in her power to give us the outside lines, but she wouldn't. She also did not put in the wakeup calls and luckily, I had set the alarm on my phone and was able to wake up all of the students (or we would have missed our flight). The rudeness of the staff prevents me from recommending this hotel. I have advised the student tour company that they should perhaps find another hotel.

For our first stay, we had an interior facing room - not a great view, but very quiet. Then we had an exterior facing room, better view a little less quiet.Loved the breakfast, the downstairs salon to sit and read, the handy location, and the price. no complaints except the receptionist over the weekend had no experience.

I did not quite like my stay at the Grande Albergo Alfeo. Especially it’s not a good trade off considering the tariffs they charged for rooms. I had driven in my car and the parking which they promised never existed. It was a thin narrow alley where one gets to park cars. And I wasn’t comfortable doing so. The location definitely is a plus point, but the service needs to be improved a lot. The rooms apparently looks clean but aren’t in actual. The property needs a pest control. The bathroom floor had stains (not sure of what) and the shower wasn’t working at its best. The room service is one area needing immediate attention. People tend to forget stuffs which aren’t what you expect from a hotel that claims to be 5-Star standards. The building had been recently renovated which shows, but the overall experience could have been way better.

We were there in December 2013 and stayed in 2 rooms for 4 nights. The rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms were well appointed. However, it was not possible to get coffee or anything else to eat or drink outside of breakfast despite there supposedly being a bar. It appeared as thought the hotel was running on a skeleton staff. Breakfast was fine if unexciting. We had arranged for a taxi to be booked in order that we could catch the early morning train to Naples. It didn't show up on time and we nearly missed our connection. Like a previous reviewer we had troubles with mosquitoes but no spray was available in reception. Similarly when we asked for an additional pillow the receptionist said she couldn't go and get one as she was the only person on duty.
