Just returned from a week at the Grand Hotel Villa Politi. Built in 1862 it retains lots of original features but has been sympathetically updated making it a very comfortable place to stay. All the staff are very friendly but not too friendly nothing too much trouble and genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. We were half board and my wife has Coeliac disease. There was always plenty to eat and plenty of time to eat it. When my wife could not anything on the menu the chef always came up with an alternative she could eat. So often had an extra special dish.
Our room was on the 1st floor facing south across the gardens it was quiet and very comfortable.
Siracusa is a small city and is easy to get around, we used the Hop-on Hop-off bus which runs every 20 minutes in season using 3 busses. The cost is €5 per day which was very good value. Out of season there is only one bus which takes an hour to complete the circuit. There are 15 stops and we often walked between 2 or 3 before rejoining the bus. We thought it was very good value and usually met friendly people even though we couldn’t speak their language. We spent 2 days travelling on this bus.

If you're driving around Sicily, then the Villa Politi is a great place to stay in Siracusa. It's a 20-minute walk from the archaeological site, there's lots of parking, and there's a hop on-hop off bus for a bargain 5 Euro a day if you don't fancy walking down into Ortigia.

The hotel itself is historic and very charming. I would certainly stay there again. Our room was comfortable and spacious. We ate at the restaurant on both nights we were there. The food was excellent, and the staff pleasant and helpful.

Note that the Villa Politi is a beautiful old building situated in the modern part of Siracusa, not the better looking (and more touristy) Ortigia. This is why it's possible to drive and park there! There aren't too many bars and restaurants close by, but the food served at the hotel restaurant was so good that it wasn't a problem for us.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Villa Politi for nine nights in September and fell in love with it. We had a superior double room which had a sea view and overlooked part of the old quarries of Latomie dei Cappuccini. You looked down into the depths of the caves and could imagine the Athenian soldiers imprisoned there following their defeat in 413 BC. Later in 1582 the Capuchin monks created a huge vegetable garden there. You can look down on to lots of the caves, trees and foliage of the quarry from the hotel grounds. There have been many famous guests over the years and as you descend the grand staircase or sit out on the gorgeous veranda you can just imagine the people who have stood or sat in that spot before, in particular I could see Winston Churchill sitting out on the veranda smoking a cigar while taking in the view. As well as the history of the place our whole visit was fantastic. We found all the staff friendly, polite and helpful especially Cristiano and Ivan. Breakfast was buffet style and had a good selection to choose from. We had dinner at the hotel several times and found the food to be of a high quality and beautifully presented. There is a daily menu available or a la carte. The swimming pool is a good size and has a pool bar for drinks and food. It took us about 20 minutes to walk to Ortigia from the hotel which we did during the day when we went to explore the market and historical sites. We had a hire car so drove to Ortigia on the nights we had dinner there. If you are interested in historical places, enjoy period dramas and have a sense of romance then this is definitely the place for you.

This hotel is truly a grand hotel reminiscent of the hotels of bygone days .It is not only beautiful but has a great breakfast included and a happy hour . There is a huge parking lot which is a great plus in Sicily . Beautiful garden and great staff . Ramona at the front desk is charming and very helpful . Ortigia is in walking distance but there is also a inexpensive bus .
This was a great place to stay !

I loved this hotel. It is a grand old hotel that has been updated and well maintained. The staff are great and want to make sure your stay is pleasant. At check-in, Francesco, was exceptional and made sure I was taken care of. I was having problems with the original hotel where my reservations were. He did everything he could to assist me in resolving them. When it didn't work out, he put me in a beautiful room with a balcony that has a distant view of the water. He assisted me with the bus schedule, places of interest to see, shopping, etc. This hotel has a large, tranquil pool on the 2nd level that adds to the beauty and relaxation of the hotel. Breakfast is a large selection. The location is not close to the tourist sites, but the bus stop is across the street with frequent stops. It was well worth the stay and I would recommend it.
