“Beautiful Duomo and Piazza”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

After winding through narrow alleys this gorgeous duomo seems to spring out of nowhere, so beautiful and majestic. The history of the many forces that resided in the area and claimed the church (Greek, Roman, Muslim, Christian) was fascinating. The nominal fee negligible.

“Great church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

So many churches in Italy! This was actually a really cool one because you could see the Greek columns and how they were restructured and rebuilt. The Piazza surrounding is a highlight of the area.

“Really quiet calm spot to meditate.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

It was quiet, except for varying guides telling the tale of the history of this amazing structure and it's layered history....listen to the guides, easier than paying for an audio guide, but be subtle, explains the history while you observe the outline of Greek temple pillars.

“Great exterior, so-so interior”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

the highlight of the Duomo is its exterior as the interior is relatively plain, particularly compared to the Basilica St. Lucia that's on the same square. I'd forgo the tour of the interior (entrance fee required) and spend the time at the Basilica.

“Church with a very interesting history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

This church is amazing. It was originally a Greek temple and was the transformed into a church. You can still see the Greek columns on the outside and inside of the church. There is also a bone of a saint on display which is a little freaky but not uncommon in Italian/ Sicilian churches. I really like the piazza where the church is located all the buildings are beautiful.
