I would highly recommend this lovely B&B. Located on the waterfront of Ortygia, Sircacuse's ancient heart, It's especially suited to couples and would be ideal for a weekend break or longer if you have a car. Frederik provides a warm Sicilian welcome as well as beautiful accomodation and a super breakfast. His restaurant and site-seeing recommendations were also excellent and this all contributed to a very enjoyable holiday.

Siracusa, Sicily
We spent 2 nights in Ortygia the end of May, 07 at L'Approdo. This b and b deserves the top rating it has in TripAdvisor. Frederick greeted us midday and made us capuchinos. He is a gem. The rooms are really nice. We were on the canal with a great view of the bay. Breakfasts served in a bright room. One morning we ate on the rooftop terrace-what a setting. This place was one of the best we experienced on our 3-week trip of Sicily and the Amalfi Coast. It's an easy 20 minute walk to the archeological park. Walking Ortygia and Siracusa was great. Thanks Frederick.

It is always a worrying that a hotel is not going to live up to the hype, but this one deserves all the praise it is getting! A perfect hotel, with amazing attention to detail throughout. Friedrick is so welcoming, friendly, gives advice about where to go, where to eat, it is just perfect. We will definitely come back here.

The prior reviews have said it all, but I had to echo them, as we had such a nice experience this month. The hotel (and it feels more like a hotel than a B&B as Frederick and his family live across the hall, and the rooms that are rented are in a different part of what once must have been a grand home) was clean, perfectly located on the water in Ortygia, the historic part of the city, and decorated in simple, elegant Italian contemporary style.

Our room was on a corner, overlooking the water on 2 sides, was quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and reasonably spacious. The breakfast was wonderful and the roof terrace could be enjoyed all during the day.

Frederick was a gracious host, who always was welcoming and happy to make suggestions. When we asked for restaurant recommendations, he gave us several, stylish ones with excellent food, most of which were not frequented by tourists. In one restaurant, filled with chic looking Italians, we were the only tourists.

The hotel is a great value--they could charge significantly more.
Highly recommended!

What a wonderful B&B!

My room - a double with skylight - was large and airy and simply decorated. It had a particularly spacious bathroom with a lot of counter space. One of this B&B's best features is its rooftop terrace at the northwest corner of Ortygia. And I do mean the corner - there are no buildings on Ortygia further north or west. Such beautiful views! Open 24/7 for guests, it is a lovely place to relax.

Breakfast, which could be eaten on the terrace or indoors in a room with a wall of windows, was another delight: The buffet was very well supplied with a wide range of breads and pastries, meats and cheeses, yogurt, fresh fruits and juices, hard-boiled eggs, and other wonderful things. As if that weren't enough, they offered to scramble some eggs! And the coffee was delicious.

The proprietor - Friedrich - and his family are another of this B&B's great assets. Attentive, helpful, and friendly, they obviously love their city and enjoy sharing it with their guests.

I'm happy to recommend this B&B wholeheartedly!

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights and were made to feel like family! it is run by a woman (Fiorangela) and her son, Freidrich. When the cab from the RR first dropped us off, we thought there might have been some mistake, as the large wooden doors to the entrance are only marked with a green canopy and the name and number of the building are rather small. From the outside, you can barely tell its a B&B. But once beyond the doors, through an inside vestibule, through another locked gate, and then climbing two flights of stairs, the accomodations are wonderful! We were greeted like long lost family, and they helped us settle in and gave us loads of tips and advice about what to see and where to eat. Our room was fairly large and clean, with modern accents. It had a decent view toward the street. Noise was not a problem. The room had AC, but the French doors and windows were great to leave open! Everything in the place was fairly modern. And the breakfasts were absolutely great--the best we had anywhere in Sicily--fresh fruit, cereal, fresh breads and pastries, cheese, meats, all served on an upstairs terrace with fantastic views of the water. Fantastico! The location can't be beat--it's 5 minutes to the bus station and 10 minutes to the heart of Ortygia. We would stay there again definitely!!

This B&B is perfectly located just as all have said. A word of caution is that don't get a room facing inside the building. We were terribly "attacked" by the mosquitoes after leaving the window open (we had to because the room got stuffy without ventilation). Frederick was very helpful to replace the electrical mosquito repellent but the the damage was done and we had to spend 7 Euro for an ointment. Would give a 5 if not for the mosquitoes.
