“5 days in Taormina”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

This hotel is fine unless you are expecting 5 * standards which we weren`t, it`s just not that sort of place. Get yourself a good rate deal and it is value for money. The rooms are comfortable and it is quiet at night. Agree with previous posts that pool is small but I don`t think pool lounging is the primary reason for being in Taormina, if that is what you want I`d suggest checking out the bigger hotels in and around town and down on the private beaches. If you enjoy eggs for breakfast just ask and the kitchen do the usual range along with cheese and ham, don`t feel as though you are being cheeky, I get the impression guests don`t like to ask !. My only real negative is that Taormina is expensive (shock, Med tourist in `it`s a bit pricey` claim), that said you just need to look around for value before sitting at the first restaurant / bar that you come to. Explore the alley ways off Umberto and you'll find fair pricing but be aware of the cover charge added to most eating bills - 2 Euros pp, also look out for the extra you are charged at bars if you happen to be sitting at the tavolo; oh and the room tax per night bill that you are presented with on checking out (I doubt it will be included in your package cost). Do a bit of research to find out where your hotel is in relation to the bus terminal, we had 2 cabin baggage cases and found that we could have walked the (what turned out to be) 500 metres up the hill to the hotel rather than grab a cab for 10 (!!) Euros. Greek theatre is well worth a visit; the Etna excursion is expensive particularly if you want to go up to 3k metres - yep they get you on that ,taking you up to 1900 metres where you then pay for a cable car and moon buggy ride to the higher craters. On the day of our visit the weather was good with little cloud cover , this was something our tour guide banged on about - how lucky we were to get such clear views, suggesting to me that it is unusual, something you might want to think about when planning your visit - (is there going to be much cloud around?). Overall, Taormina and the surrounding area make an enjoyable short holiday, just be aware of the cost of living and the `tourist taxes`.

Room Tip: get a garden facing room to avoid scooter road noise.

Centrally located hotel, staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was great. The pool is small but the deck area is nice to relax. The hotel and rooms were fairly modern for Italian standard however housekeeping really needs to clean the shower as it had mould.

The location is perfect . The hotels looks better in pictures. The breakfast is very poor. Buffet includes only sweets and fruits. You have to ask if would like eggs, ham and cheese (they are free of charge). The hotel is not very clean (the walls, the bathrooms etc). The pool area on the roof top does not look beautiful. The sunchairs were dirty and the swimimg pool is very small. Beside the location, this is an average hotel .

I had booked this hotel from March/April to get there and be told that one room had a problem so they transered me to Excelsior Hotel which was just terrible.
My husband and I didn't want to make an issue but we will not sugges this Hotel to any of our Travelling friends.

Il Piccolo Giardino is not 5* but nor does it claim to be. However, it is an exceptional 3* in a perfect location, steps away from curso umberto.

Breakfast is served in the little garden and is perfectly adequate and the rooftop terrace is a little oasis. The pool may be small but it's perfectly kept and offers wondrous views of Taormina from the edge.

I would definitely recommend this hotel - it's affordable, ideally located and charming.

We stayed here for 7 nights and really enjoyed this hotel.
It is a few steps from the main street so you are in the heart of all the action which is ideal for coming and going.
The breakfast was more than sufficient for us; we have lovely eggs, great coffee and fresh O.J each morning. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and the rooms are nice and modern with Sky channels which are great to have available to you when you’re done in the sun or exploring the area. Found all the staff very nice especially our breakfast waiter. The pool along with the amazing sunbeds are amazing to head off to & relax, we spent a nice amount of time up here laying around!
Don’t hesitate to book, this place is perfect. I would 100% stay here again.

The good: the hotel is located just 10 steps away from Corso Umberto, Taormina main street. It's also very easily accessible by car, so you don't have to haul your luggage all around the city. Bear in mind, however, that you will have to park in one of the public parkings (a short 10 min stroll away).
The staff was extremely helpful and helped us in everything we needed. Very kid friendly, also. Our room (double superior) was very well furnished and ample enough for both of us and our baby. Breakfast was good, ample selection to choose from.

The not so good: Suggestions from the staff about places to eat or visit were not very useful; only one place was suggested and didn't seemed to be specially recommended. More effort in this aspect would make this hotel a 5/5.
