A gem of a stylish chic Palazzo Hotel with charming staff in the centre of ancient Taormina. The one disappointment was breakfast. Needs to be re thought and more professional.
- Breakfast included
When we arrived our room wasn't ready so we were upgraded to a suite - A room of generous proportions and generous complimentary items -slippers, thongs, lovely soaps and creams bearing the "El Jabel" brand, chocolates. Our room was sunny and bright and we had a view over the rooftops and church spires to Mt Etna in the distance.
The service at the front desk was impressive. Both Gianluca and Antonio spoke perfect English, were efficient, polite, professional and attended to our needs with a smile and joke. They gave us great advice about where to eat and what to do.
The Hotel is conveniently located on the main street but there are some stairs to climb to get there (not too strenuous). You have to leave your car in the parking lot which is a 5 minute walk so it is best to take only a small suitcase on wheels. Many hotels in Taormina have similar access. If you can't carry your luggage, they have someone on hand to help.
Breakfast was the usual Italian fare but nicely presented and very fresh. Freshly cooked eggs were available on request.
I loved staying at El Jabel and was sorry that we only had 2 nights there. I would definitely stay there again.
We stayed at Hotel el Jebel for two nights at the beginning of October 2010.
I can honestly say it was one of the best hotels my wife and I have ever stayed in.
On arrival in Taormina, we had some trouble locating the hotel. We phoned the reception desk and were told someone would be with us shortly. Within 5 minutes a member of staff arrived and directed us to a parking bay and then took our luggage and escoted us to the hotel
As it was our honeymoon we booked a suite and were not disappointed. The room had elegant furnishings and was beautifully decorated.
It is located virtually in the heart of Taormina so all the sights are within walking distance.
Breakfast is held in a very pretty atrium and there was a good choice of food... even a glass of Prosecco if you fancy it!
It was a fabulous start to our honeymoon, we just wished we had stayed longer!!!
The hotel was excellently located for our stay in Taormina as it is on the central business street. We had a package with American breakfast included and it was absolutely excellent everyday (7days stay) and the service was fantastic
The staff at El Jebel were very accomodating and helped us plan private daily excursions for our group of 12. In addition they were gracious to conduct a Sicilian cooking class at the hotel with their head chef, Fabbio. This included a wine tasting of local sicilian wines
This was a great experience that all of us will never forget.
If you want intimate service at a small boutique hotel in the heart of Taormina we would highly recommend El Jebel. Great value for the price.
Hotel el Jebel is a wonderful place to stay in Taormina, its situated just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of the town and yet when you step inside the hotel, it is a peaceful oasis. We stayed in a junior suite on the 3rd floor, which is Moroccan themed, the room itself was beautiful and kept spotlessly clean, even with our young toddler causing mayhem each day. The views of the church and Mount Etna were stunning, if only I could wake up to them every morning! The staff were amazing, especially Marco Fisichella, Gigi and Saroj, they simply couldn't do enough to make you feel comfortable, the service really was faultless and we felt thoroughly pampered. Breakfasts were great, a good variety of delicious fresh food each morning. We also enjoyed dining at the restaurant several evenings, the setting on the roof terrace (weather permitting) is unbeatable, the views are superb and provides a wonderful intimate dining experience. Yes, the food is expensive but Taormina is not a cheap place to eat and we did still feel we were getting value for money.
I couldn't recommend staying at the Hotel el Jebel highly enough, we had a fabulous week there and we would definitely love to return. A special thank you again to Marco, Gigi and Saroj for making our stay even more wonderful!
We stayed at the el Jebel (finished in 2009) for about 4 days. There is nothing we could complain about. Really nice rooms, polite and friendly staff that definitely goes the extra mile, clean premises,... as already stated, everything was perfect.
The room maids clean thoroughly and even unpack your suitcase and put your stuff into the cabinets IF that is wished for. The breakfast seems not very extensive on first sight, but you can order anything you wish for and it will be delivered shortly: pancakes, eggs, fruits - you name it.
The hotel is located directly in the main shopping street of Taormina (no car access!!). When you arrive make sure to park in the public garage (40% off for hotel visitors) and they will send somebody to fetch your luggage and carry it up the stairways. There are only very few places in Taormina I could imagine to have a better location.
The ONLY thing that is not 100% perfect is the pool - as there is none at the hotel. You have however access to the paradise beach club. The downside about that is that you have to pay EUR 18.-- per person and day to get there by shuttle and you are bound to the shuttle times. As an option there is still the beach (rock beach! no sand) you can go
All in all we would definitely visit the el Jebel again!
