“Best hotel I've ever stayed in!”
Reviewed 8 May 2011

It is really difficult to do justice to just how great Timeo was in this review.

We were upgraded to the Kaiser Wilhelm Suite which was a huge 3 room apartment with an enormous terrace and Jacuzzi overlooking Mount Etna. It is truely the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I can't think of any way in which it could be improved!

The breakfast buffet was fantastic with everything you could think of catered for - and sparkling wine.

The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly and the communal areas were also absolutely amazing. I will definitely be returning to the Grand Timeo.

Current stay at overpriced Verdura Resort in Western Sicily only serves to highlight what a fine property this is. Stylish rooms, glorious gardens, mesmerising views, sumptuous food... hotel does everything right. Staff are friendly, alert and low key What I really value is the fact that this establishment has integrity: no tiresome bill negociations, no rapacious extras. One of the best hotels in Europe. One last thing: only hotel I have been to where the pool is larger than what appears on the website. Not a lap pool but decent and heated.

We did not actually stay here. Just had lunch, but it was so, so good that I felt compelled to write here. The hotel is very grand and has an amazing location, right next to the amphitheatre. I see that this hotel is not in the top 20 in Taormina. It seems commonplace that hotels of this type ( grand and opulent) receive an unfair listing on trip advisor and seldom appear in the top 10's in any city, but it is clear to me if you want luxury, grandness, something extra special and expensive, then this is the hotel to go to.

Room Tip: Incredible location and food.

We had some concerns when we booked our room based on previous tripadvisor comments, and we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Probably key to this is the fact that the hotel was taken over by the Orient Express group in January 2010.

The attention to detail, quality of the rooms, and outstanding service we experienced could not be faulted. One example, on Sunday morning our copy of the Financial Times was not available so the concierge arranged for someone to go into town and pick up another English newspaper for us in time for breakfast. Another example, after being turned away from the Roman ruins next to the hotel because it was just after closing time, a hotel doorman had a quiet word to the gate staff and we were able to slip in and walk around for an hour with only a couple of other people to keep us company.

Our breakfast was superb - the quality and selection on offer was faultless. It ranks as one of our best hotel breakfast experiences.

One point that we particularly liked is the hotel's policy for its public areas - no mobile phones and a smart casual dress code!

Definitely a thumbs up. While expensive, the Grand Hotel Timeo represents good value for money within its luxury hotel bracket.

I have just visited Trip Advisor to see how the Timeo is faring recently. My wife and I stayed there with our two teenage children three years ago, and we were both looking to revisit Sicily on our own later in the year now our teens are both off to Uni and we've finally got time on our own. Nice to see that the reviews are still in the most totally positive. My family thought it was the best hotel we had ever stayed in, with absolutely wonderful views over the bay and Etna for breakfast buffet. What to say about this hotel; Expensive yes, but you get what you pay for. The Family had the pool to ourselves on most days early June. Chilling by a lovely little pool and even receiving free sorbets as the temperatures got high. Rooms so clean & comfortable and my wife declared the best sleep she had on holiday for years, it was so quiet. Service totally professional and impeccable, nothing too much trouble. My daughter left her designer sunglasses on the beach of the sister hotel one afternoon, and had them returned by Timeo reception the next morning. The staff in general definitely couldn't do enough for guests. Having a drink in the early evening on the terrace is a world beater. The views are so awesome. If you wan't cheap, go somewhere else. If you want to stay in a hotel where fellow guests have more decorum than to put towels on sunbeds at 07:00 am and are polite and mutually enjoy first class standards, then stay at the Timeo.

My husband and I stayed at Timeo two nights this past weekend for our Baby Moon and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff was exceptional, the views are out of this world and the food is delicious. The breakfast that is included in the rate is one of the best breakfasts we have had at a hotel. Due to the fabulous 70 degree weather, we dined on the porch both mornings with the sea and Mt. Etna in the background. The service was exceptional, they did everything possible to make us feel welcome. The hotel is located directly next to the Teatro and about a 3-5 minute walk to the centre of town. The town is located about 15 min from the train station in Giardini Naxos (accessible by cab) and the bus station is in town about a 5 minutes from the hotel.
The spa was wonderful and gardens are beautiful to walk around in and enjoy the scenery. I just cannot believe any of the negative reviews that have been posted on Trip Advisor about this hotel. I would recommend this experience to anyone and we plan to return next year at this time.

The hotel is truly a five star. Everything about the hotel is great. The location, the staff, the accomodations, the food service were all terrific.

I can say enough about the entire experience
