“a magical birthday celebration”
Reviewed 19 June 2012

Sicily is beautiful and Taormina a cliff-hanging village is incredibly beautiful. I was whisked away by family to a surprise birthday celebration and spent 3 wonderful nights at the Grand Hotel Timeo. It was sublime, from the service to the room (I had a suite) to the food, the laid back revamped but wonderfully old public spaces, to the lovely gardens, to the breathtaking views it was a birthday treat to remember.
I will definitely go back.

Room Tip: We rented a car and drove there and finding the hotel was a challenge; I would recommend that you ca...

My husband and I did not stay at the hotel, however we booked a couples' massage there during a week long stay in Taormina at a villa we had rented with friends across the bay from the hotel's sister hotel Sant' Andrea. The hotel provided us with a complimentary return shuttle from Sant' Andrea to Grand Hotel Timeo. After arriving at the hotel, it took us a little while to find the spa as it is not located in the main part of the hotel, but rather in a separate building set amidst the lovely gardens beneath the hotel. The service we received from our massage therapists Daniela and Elizabetta was excellent as was the quality of the massages. We were each provided with slippers and robes upon our arrival and a locker with key to place our personal belongings. The massage beds were comfortable and the spa facility itself was pristine clean and well appointed. After our massages, we were able to use the steam room, sauna and showers and sit outside to relax a bit before heading up to the hotel for a drink on the beautiful hotel terrace. Drinks were expensive (CAN$51.00 with tip for a mojito and gin & tonic) but the service was excellent (nice little snacks were provided as well) and the stunning view from the terrace made the experience worth while. The hotel is centrally located near the Greek Theatre as well as wonderful shops in Taormina, with beautiful views of Mount Etna. We also took a little tour of the sister hotel Sant' Andrea which guests of Grand Hotel Timeo have complimentary access to, including it's lovely beach and dining facilities. With the complimentary shuttle taking guests between the two facilities, guests can have the best of both worlds.

We stayed in hotel Timeo for 3 nights and it was simply amazing. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. We even compared it to Villa d'este. (one of our favourite hotels in Italy). The staff are all amazing, the restaurant is incredible, the location, the views, the gardens, the rooms, the amenities, almost everything is perfect. Only downfall is the spa, it's not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. We had a couples massage and both therapists were very young and very inexperienced, the room was freezing and a bit shabby, yet the price was over 120 euro per person for 50 minutes. Really a shame as we were expecting a fabulous spa and it would have been better to have spent the hour doing something else The concierge is so helpful and gave us excellent advice on nearby towns, the beach, etna and walking tracks around Taormina. I would never stay in any other hotel in Taormina. We also used the sister hotel by the beach which was great too. Only wish we had eaten every night in Timeo as the terrace, service staff, menu and food are all unbeatable. Can't wait to get back there. Hope they do up the spa.

We stayed 10 nights in the Timeo last June - we had booked a suite with a balcony thinking we would be able to sit out on it, we arrived late to be shown a beautiful room overlooking the pool but the balcony was juliette and you could only stand on it so we were disappointed. We asked to move rooms and the receptionist was very helpful and although they had nothing available that night, showed us a suite the next day with a terrace with a table and chairs and sun loungers. This one overlooked the restaurant and we were a little worried about the noise but it was fine and we were very glad we moved, as we could could have breakfast or lunch up there if we wanted and it was nice when the pool got busy to head back to our own terrace for a while. The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is just stunning. We found everybody to be helpful and efficient. We ate out most nights but did have lunch at the pool restaurant which was very nice, but pricey. We would sit on the main terrace and listen to the pianist and have an aperitif taking in the views which was very relaxing - although he did tend to play the same tunes every night! We took the courtesy bus down to the sister hotel Sant'Andrea a few times and sat on the beach and had lunch which was also beautiful and a bit more informal than the Timeo -the views from the Timeo win though! We went on the complimentary boat trip but there wasn't a great deal of wind that day, it made a change though and was free. There were times when we felt the service in the bars and restaurants was not up to 5 star standard but all in all we had a wonderful stay in the Grand Hotel Timeo!

Room Tip: Be careful when choosing rooms with balconies and terraces - we made a mistake!

We stayed at this wonderful hotel on the last three days of our Sicilian trip. The hotel looks over the bay and across to puffing Mount Etna - get a balcony room looking that way if you can. The Greek theater is just around the corner. From the moment we arrived we were made welcome with all the charm and gaiety that only Italians know how to deliver so naturally. Martin Pescatore at reception made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived and Simona at the concierge desk exuded patience and help as we changed our minds every minute. Our room was wonderful with a really comfortable bed and excellent bathrooms. Who could ever not mention the gorgeous linen sheets, fresh every day. The restaurant was the high point of our Sicilian eating - the pigeon breast and foie gras was just brilliantly way over the top! Luca and Demetrio were the stars of the restaurant show. Breakfast was of such variety that lunch was never necessary. The only little niggle point was the massage had by my wife - she found mediocre. But who cares, this is certainly one of our favourite hotels and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Top prices? Yes, but absolutely top quality and worth every penny.

We go to Timeo for drinks/food every time we pass by Taormina. The service is impeccable the standards very high and the view simply unique! Timeo is the only hotel that has got direct access to the Greek Theatre from the back and breathtaking views of the bay and Etna from the front.
If you are in Taormina go and have a Kir Imperiale on the terrace.
