Need a rest, want to relax? go to the Grand Hotel Timeo and let yourself be pampered by the great and freindly staff at the the hotel. Try to book a room at the Villa Flora. Enjoy the breakfast overlooking the hills and valleys and the Mediterenean, watching smoke spout from Mount Edna. Well mangaed and a place to go to get away. In the hot weather, get a lounge above the pool area and spend the day there with an hour for a relaxing lunch in the restaurant next to the pool - tasty pizza!

The property is at a very convenient location for a tourist, right next to the ancient greek theatre, and a few minutes walk away from the main street (Corso Umberto), where you can find the best Sicilian bakeries, restaurants and a variety of shops.
The common areas have a lovely view overlooking a monastery, the sea and mount etna. We had booked a room with a view but as we were looking for an early check in, the helpful and polite staff offered us a suite and we just took it.
The suite was not up to the mark, it was dingy, squalid and overlooking a car parked outside! The two bathrooms were very small, the tub was not a pleasure to bathe in, and the shower needed a lot of adjustment to get your temperature right. I dint think it was properly cleaned before handing it over to us, cause I thought I noticed a strand of hair in the tub. The stairs leading up the sleeping area were creaky and noisy. The walls itself were thin and we could hear people in the next room walking around or maybe it was from above us.
The staff though were very friendly and always helpful when needed.
we were tired and ordered room service and they dished up exactly what we had asked for, without making us feel like we were asking them for a favor even though the items weren't from the menu. We stayed in the annexe and they had an area with free drinks for the guests.
The breakfast spread was decent and the staff were cordial enough.
Maybe if we had waited for the room with the view this review might have had a better rating for the hotel, but the rooms I thought are not up to the standard we are used to.

We spent one week at The Timeo (Villa Flora) in early July - I'm going to try to express below what makes this place so fantastic.

Location
The hotel is around 1 hour from the airport (Catania), we pre-booked a car with the hotel which was cheaper than booking through our agent and, from what we understand from other people on tripadvisor, cheaper than getting an airport taxi. The Hotel is located in the mainly pedestranised town, right next to the theatre and right in the middle of the hussle and bussle of the town - perfect for heading out in the evening to resturants, an afternoon ice cream and to explore the town. Despite being central we had no noise in our rooms or around the pool area. The free shuttle bus to the other hotel gives you beach acccess - but make sure you take some beach shoes as the beach is shingle!

Welcome
We were whisked to reception by the doorman who looked after our luggage - check in was quick and efficient. In our room we had a welcome card and some local pastries which was a nice touch.

Rooms
We stayed in Villa Flora on the top floor - the room was large and light, with a fully equiped bathroom. We had our own terrace where we had breakfast served (included in the rate) each morning. We had a wonderful view of Etna, the town and the bay. The rooms also had fresh flowers replaced regulary (I hope the staff got to keep the ones they took out as they looked perfect to me!) and a great selection of toilettries such as Molton Brown. The top floor of Villa Flora all benefit from the balcony so thats my room tip when booking - being higher than Timeo the view may even be better. Free soft drinks are available in a downstairs lounge too.

Facilities
The pool was perfect - great temp and really helpful pool attendants (and waiter from the bar who helped out too!) who made sure we had the right balance of shade and sun. The gym area and spa area were also good. There are large gardens at the rear of the property which had lemon trees, olive trees etc - a nice peaceful place to wander. There are a number of options to eat at the hotel - all looked nice but with all the choice in town we didn't stay in the hotel. Breakfast was a wonderful selection of buffet (cheeses, meats, smoked fish, cereals, fruit, bread etc) and a choice of hot meals - the pancakes were our favourite! As mentioned a full breakfast can also be served in the rooms. A boat trip was also offered FOC by the hotel - we had a lovely afternoon pretending to be millionaires sailing along the coast!

It is expensive, but if you want to be looked after in proper 5* luxury and have a worry free break this is the place to be.

Room Tip: top floor villa flora!

Truly a 5 star experience. The grounds are immaculate, lovely to stroll along in the park amongst the cypress trees. The main entrance is literally right next to the Greek Theatre entrance so you can visit easily and hear any music they play at the theatre from your room. The pool is gorgeous saline, complete with gorgeous Italian pool staff to attend to your every need! The view of the bay cannot be beat. My only qualm would be the restaurant was obviously catering to English and American tourists- i did not think the food was that good at all.
They offer complimentary shuttle service to their sister hotel- Sant Andrea on the beach which is a treat rather than taking the funicular. They also offered us a two hour boat ride with our package- so ask about the tour to see if it's available. Absolutely beautiful- can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for the corner room with balcony!

This hotel was phenomenal!! The service was top notch and the property is just breath taking. As others have mentioned the annex building is also beautiful and some of the views better than the main building. You really cannot beat the location for a relaxing getaway!!

Room Tip: Top Floor of the Villa Flora has the best views with a private patio.

We stayed there in mid june for 3 nights (at Villa Flora, which is a kind of next-door building). The hotel is beautiful, the views are amazing, and the service is impeccable. The breakfast is absolutely fantastic and the location is ideal (right by the theather and a few meters from Corso Umberto). The only flaw is the bathroom: the water temperature in the shower is not very stable (keeps changing from too hot to too cold...)...

I would recommend this hotel to everyone. We stayed here for 4 days in June and had a great time. The service was exemplary and the concierges Stephen and Simona go out of their way to help you. Whether you are in the annex or the main building, the rooms are very well appointed and do not disappoint. In the annex, the only thing is that you may not have a great view. Would gladly return to the Hotel Timeo!
