Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo
Ranked #4 of 87 Hotels in Taormina
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We just came back from Taormina where we stayed at the Grand Hotel Timeo for 6 nights. We had a wonderful experience. Our room (536 - but actually 3rd floor) was located at the Villa Flora which is right across from the main hotel. The view from the room was amazing; sea view and mount etna at the same time (not sure whether lower floors have the same view as there is a another building facing the villa). Also, the view is actually from the balcony that is a few steps above the room, and not the room itself. The room itself was impeccable and beautiful. The location of the hotel is perfect as it is right on the pedestrian area, at the base of the Teatro Greco and a minute away from Corso Umberto (the main pedestrian street). Whenever we wanted to spend the day at the beach we took the shuttle down to the sister hotel Sant'Andrea (amazing food btw!).
Grand Hotel Timeo itself is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous landscaping and gardens. It has a lovely terrace with a breathtaking view, perfect for drinks!
The staff are all very helpful and friendly, and the concierge recommended many good restaurants for us along the corso umberto(our favorites being Maffei's and Viccolo Stretto)
While i do agree that it is an expensive hotel, i do reccommend it as it is a very beautiful hotel with great service and helpful staff, and our experience was honestly great. I would love to return one day.

Room Tip: Our room at the top floor of villa flora (3rd floor) had a beautiful view from the balcony (sea + et...

We just returned from the Grand Hotel Timeo and it was in a word, perfect. It is simply beautiful; overlooking Taormina and Mt. Etna in the distance. The hotel itself is a beautiful, rambling building, charmingly furnished. The rooms are perfect, but possibly a bit on the small side - gorgeous bathrooms with Penhaligon toiletries. The service is a class unto itself, it's the sort of place where the staff obviously aims to remember your name and your favorite drink - if you just smile at a waiter, they approach you to say hello and ask if they can get you anything.

There were a fair few kids there (including ours) but they never really met any of them because kids (ours, anyway!) are loathe to make introductions and there isn't any games room or ping pong tables etc - this would be ideal to allow the kids a bit of socialization. I should say I was surprised by how well behaved all the kids were there, no screaming or horseplay.

It is expensive, but it's easy to see that their operating costs are higher than a lesser hotel because of the high staff to guest ratio (and general staff excellence) and the building is impeccably maintained.

My only complaint was that our room was rather loud late into the night (not exactly loud but I could hear the restaurant and it's distracting) - so I would avoid rooms directly below the restaurant/terrace i.e. 206 & surrounding.

We tipped quite a lot while we were there, and I don't think we were alone - probably 50 EUR per day. The staff is beyond professional and we never felt obliged, but the service is so perfect and they work so hard that you probably will just want to.

The staff was also so incredibly kind & generous with our kids, it endeared us to them immeasurably. They bought some spinning tops as souvenirs, and we later found some of the younger waiters helping them to get them working in the blazing heat.

I stayed here in August and it is one of the best hotels I have stayed at. It has an amazing property with all the best services. The staff is very helpful in giving advice for your stay and helping with your itinerary. The breakfast is also very good. The hotel also has transfers to its private beach, which is a large advantage.

Staff and service second to none. Special thanks to Steven Head Concierge and the GM who really looked after us. We were lucky enough to see mark knophler in concert and were given vip treatment when mgt allowed us entrance to greek theatre via the artists door. Fantastic. Food top class, views simply stunning. Breakfast was lovely, u must try the lemon granita and brioche. And the arincini and champagne was gorgeous. Only downside is that we would have preferred to have stayed in the main building and not villa flora. Our room was a duplex, ground floor, no balcony. Wardrobe on ground floor, bedroom upstairs.. Bit topsy turvy. Cant say this ruined our holiday as we spent most of our holiday out and about or around pool or at villa andreas sea side with free shuttle. Had a massage which was good. Location of hotel spot on. Will def be back, but hopefully to stay in the main hotel. Overall though, top notch hotel. Perfect break for our honeymoon, thank you Timeo. By the way, dinner on terrace is amazing, you have to book. View, ambience and food is top class.

Room Tip: Stay in main hotel if you can afford it!

Lovely cool pre lunch drinks on the terrace, after a hot walk around the amphitheatre. Just a lovely haven away from the busy narrow streets. With a stunning view. Would love to be able to stay there but, we had a little flavour of what it would be like.

My wife and I were visiting family as we had not seen them for years together. The place it self in the summer is a treat for the soul. We decided to meet local friends at the bar at the Grand Hotel Timeo ( I wish we could have stayed there as well). The all the staff and people around were very cheerful and nice, Lovely atmosphere!!! They were all very helpful and smiling all the time. This one young barman Stephano was our star of the evening, His approach and customer service was brilliant, very helpful. My wife wanted a cocktail, but didn't fancy anything from the menu, a quick chat and he mixed up something very lovely.. i cant recall the name he gave it but it was delish!!
I will surely go back there againthe next time we visit. Lovely eveing

All of that is Timeo: just amazing location with the greatest view of Taormina. From one side the Greek theater, from the other side the sea and the Etna. highly recommended breakfast in the terrace overlooking the whole bay. The bar is also quite cool and very stylish.
Overall rooms are a bit small though very nice decorated. Great amenities: Bulgari green line. I didn't try the restaurant as u can find so fantastic traditional Italian food spots outside but I did try the restaurant in the twin hotel at the beach in front of Isola Bella. there food is ok, not bad but no gourmet one. prices are high
