Hotel Villa Diodoro
Ranked #31 of 87 Hotels in Taormina
Reviewed 3 April 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel was lovely and the staff attentive. The hotel needs a little tlc in places where things are missing from wall fixings and in general it needs a cosmetic uplift.

I was disappointed that there was only one tv channel in English - and that was a Chinese channel

Overall was a lovely stay and would return again

Stayed for 2 nights on final leg of VJV tour of Italy. Views from our balcony were absolutely stunning.
Room was clean but in need of renovation. Indeed the whole hotel looked like it needed freshening up.
Good variety of food at breakfast, but second day we arrived at 9.15 (breakfast served till 10) and there little left. Nor did there seem to be much effort being made to replenish plates. Breakfast service was a bit tardy and my wife's cappucino was given to another table where one had nor been ordered.
Did not spend much time in the room but was surprised that the only English tv channel was CNBC - which a fellow traveller told me is a Chinses station!!

Room Tip: Turn left out of the hotel and the first supermarket you come to serves superb, freshly made sandwic...

The hotel is set a short stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Taormina next to wonderful public gardens, which are well worth exploring. Our room's balcony afforded us a lovely view both of Mount Etna and the coast line leading to Giardini Naxos. The rooms were quite small and faded but comfortable and clean and whilst on a sightseeing break I prefer rooms that encourage you to spend relatively little time in them! We never ate in the hotel, bar for breakfast which had a reasonably good selection, though disappointingly the orange juice was of the canned rather than fresh variety, for reasons I could not understand in a land with huge citrus fruit production. Breakfast is served in a dining room which affords wonderful views across the bay - tables with views have to be reserved however. Throughout our stay a conference was underway in the hotel which stretched the waiter service to breaking meaning that pre dinner drinks became a hit and miss affair - I suspect that the waiting staff were suffering from a mixture of work overload and of general disinterest in providing good service - ensuring a change of venue after night one for our aperitivo. The reception staff on the other hand were terribly helpful. Likewise service at the pool bar was excellent, and you could get freshly squeezed juice there! The pool and it's area was excellent for such a developed spot. This seems to be one of relatively few hotels in Taormina with a pool. As others have mentioned, parking was difficult as there appeared to be only sufficient space for circa 10 cars on site. All in all though my lasting memories of this hotel will be of it's wonderful views but faded charm.

Room Tip: Request a balcony with views of both Mount Etna and the sea - waking to such a view is a delightful...

We returned to Sicily in October and would not have stayed anywhere else. We made sure , as we did our first trip, that our room was the highest grade they offered, affording us the most magnificent view we've experienced anywhere in Italy. I never thought anyplace would compare to Lake Como for views but one minute on our balcony overlooking the Ionian Sea proved otherwise. We were there for two full weeks, using it as a base to explore the Island. The buffet breakfast in the beautiful banquet room is a true Italian feast. From the windows you can see Mt. Etna and its truly breathtaking. More than once we said we were going to pinch each other to make sure we weren't dreaming. We love all of Italy, but Taormina is too unique to explain. This hotel was the perfect compliment to an already fantastic experience.

We spent two nights at this hotel in December 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and comfortable and I believe most if not all rooms have a pretty attached balcony. We had a spectacular view of Mt.Etna with its snow covered peak right in front! We could also see a bit of the sea to our left..it was quite breathtaking. The service was a little slow...we had to ask thrice for a bottle opener to be sent to our room for our wine bottle. Apparently they had only one opener in the hotel and we were asked to return it soon thereafter! Apart from that, the concierge was very helpful and provided us with maps and directions. The hotel is ideally located at a short walk from the main street.

Room Tip: Make sure to book a room with a view of Mt.Etna

Had booked three nights at this hotel. Made the mistake of booking on line and fully paying in advance ( not a good idea). Despite the room upgrade from standard, the room was the size of a postage stamp, barely enough room for two people and luggage. Bathroom fixtures were old and not particularly well-provisioned. The " view" we were given was of two large trees, blocking most of the sea view. There was no parking at the hotel. They advertised parking "Conveniently located across the street" when the reality is that it was down the hill about two city blocks requiring us to lug our baggage uphill to the hotel. The view from the dining room is about the only nice thing about this property which is dated, worn, and not worth the value. You can do much better. We left after one night.
