“Quirky hotel”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

This is a pleasant hotel with great views. The staff in the restaurant are lovely and the food is good.

However, there are issues the most worrying being algae growing along the top of the pool by the handrail. This was reported to reception by the Thompson rep but nothing was done about it.

The hotel is in need of some investment. It needs a maintenance programme with regard to painting and replacing old worn out outdoor furniture.

Our air conditioning had a faulty button and we needed help getting it to work. Also our safe needed a new battery. It took 12 hours for the maintenance man to arrive. Meanwhile the lady on reception said she would lock our items in hotel safe. The maintenance man insisted the battery didn't need replacing and needless to say the safe stopped working. When we reclaimed our items from reception they were just given to us from an unlocked drawer on reception. They clearly hadn't made it to the safe.
Top tip if you decide to stay here bring your own kettle.

Room Tip: It is worth paying for a superior room to get a balcony with amazing view.

I spent here 4 days and everything at the hotel was perfect. I could easy walk to the center, I could do gymnastic at their gymnasium every morning, I could stay near by the pool drinking a glass of their local wine Etna Bianco, I couldn't ask more. I think that people can't read comments of people that payd deluxe rooms and think to find the same in a standard room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The hotel is very good and the view is great!!!!!!!! You have to travel with the idea to enjoy your time and everything will be wonderful

Room Tip: Standard rooms have no balcony, the others yes!

I regret to say, that from my experience with this hotel is, that it may look nice, but administrative staff are rude. They do not follow up; you, the client, chases them as if you are doing them a favour. Any other 5 star hotel in Taormina offers nice views but better service most probably. While you pay pretty much the same.

My husband and I stayed here for 14 nights beginning 25th May. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The pool area is lovely with a good snack bar. The two best things about the hotel were the view from our balcony (room 424) it was magical I honestly would never take it for granted, the sea and Mt Etna literally took your breath away. Best of all was the fantastic service by Franco and his team, we stayed half board planning to eat out 5 or 6 times however the food and service were so good we only ate out 3 times. The meal choices were varied and interesting. Special thanks to Tony & Angela. The location is perfect with a short walk to the heart of the resort, during the day you can walk through the beautiful public gardens.

Room Tip: Room 424 excellent balcony views

Stayed with a group. The views from most room ( not on ground level ) were wonderful of the bay. Pool area nice, but there a lot of steps to get to it. The breakfast was very good, but other meals were just OK. It is better to walk into town and eat @ a local restaurant a block or 2 away.
Beautiful gardens next to the hotel. Our tour bus couldn't drop us @ the hotel due to narrow streets and had to walk to the hotel up hill for 3 blocks - NOT GOOD( mix up with transfers ). So, make sure you're dropped off at the hotel. Front desk staff wasn't helpful with a room problem. They gave rooms away to guests coming last minute to attend a wedding there. They needed 1 nt. and we stayed for 3 hmmmmm. The hotel bar for hotel guests was closed for the wedding guests to use for the cocktail hour and another private party at 10:30 pm. They offered us another area to sit in for drinks to be brought to us. they didn't even offer 1 round of complimentary drinks for our inconvenience on their part. Wait staff is slow in the dining room.

Stayed at this charming hotel with a tour group. It's very old world, location amazing with panoramic views over the bay. Swimming pool great, close to old town which is only a five minute walk thru the park next door. The bar and verandah overlook the bay and there was a pianist and singer each night.
Only complaint was the shower head was terrible.
A wonderful experience in the great town of Toarmina.

End of May we spent 12 fantastic days at Villa Diodoro. The hotel was great, offering perfect service, a nice room with a great view over the sea and delicious food! Especially we'd like to thank the whole staff for their friendlyness and kindness which made our stay real special! We're looking foward to see You all in September!
Five stars for Villa Diodoro!
