We stayed here earlier this month having booked a week's half board via a well known tour operator. I had read the mixed reviews before booking, so took a chance on whether or not it would live up to the more positive ones. The view from the pool at the hotel is spectacular and the proximity to Taormina and it's abundance of shops and restaurants is a distinct advantage. We found the hotel staff to be courteous and polite and pool attendant was always on hand to provide towels and lay them onto our chosen sunbeds. The the pool bar served a small selection of snacks, only downside for my husband who likes his pints, was that it ran out of draft beer on the first day and this was never topped up, so the alternative was to buy the expensive smaller bottled beer. The room we had been allocated upon arrival was tiny, dark and claustrophobic with no view except the dense trees in the neighbouring park. I am pleased to say that we were given a free up grade to a bigger room on the opposite side of the hotel and although we still had thick trees obscuring what could have been a lovely sea view, it was a much bigger, more comfortable room. A few small improvements that could be made includes providing tea and coffee making facilities and guest information in the room. It would also have been nice to be able to dine alfresco, as the meals were served in large indoor dining room with thick net curtains, which obscured the lovely view. The hotel is quite dated and definitely not 4 star, but not as bad as some people have described.

Room Tip: Book a room on the fourth floor on the side facing Isola Bella

Absolutely loved this hotel. The views from the hotel overlook the Taormina coastline and Mount Etna can be seen in the distance. Two nights I drank wine on the balcony and watched lava trickle from the volcano. Awesome experience!
The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable.
5-10 minute walk to Corso Umberto.
Would highly recommend this hotel!

No complaints at all - clean, well serviced, excellent service. We enjoyed a very relaxed holiday at Diodoro, spent hours lazing by the pool in the sunshine with unbeatable poolside views. The pool was of generous proportions, and we were able to swim rather than simply take a "dip". Excellent suggestions for dinners at eateries in the town. Well done.

Room Tip: Request a balcony room with Etna and sea views

Three stars are "average", which this hotel isn't, but four starts are "very good", which this hotel also isn't. Three and one-half stars would better represent my impressions. I stayed here for two nights as co-director of an educational tour group (14 of us in all). The hotel's location is very good--down the hill from the noisiest, most crowded part of town, but still high enough that the view is excellent and the walking distance to the main attractions (like the ancient theatre and main pedestrian only promenade) is only around 10 minutes. The hotel is quiet, clean, attractive, and well-appointed, but there were a few problems. Several of our rooms did not have towels when we checked in (even though we'd booked months in advance), and it took some time for the staff to deliver those towels. The window shades (which are raised and lowered by an electrical switch on the wall) in the room occupied by one couple in our group did not work, making it impossible for them to enjoy their balcony (and these balconies are one of the very nice features of the hotel). While the breakfast buffet was wonderful, the group dinner we had in the hotel restaurant was decidedly mediocre, with only a few menu options, average quality of food and presentation. We agreed, even before the meal was over, that, if we were to stay at the hotel next year on our trip, we would have our group dinner at some other restaurant in town. But it is worth noting that we did decide to stay at the hotel next year, because in most respects the place is above average even if not fantastic.

Hotel was recommended by travel agent. We were a bit worried when we read some of the reviews on TA.
We had great week in room 422 which had a balcony and a view of sea and Etna.Room was refurbished and very clean and in good condition. Perhaps air conditioning could have been more efficient. We had good free WiFi.
Pool area and garden were excellent. Pool large and terrace had great views. Lunch at pool was simple but light and perfect with good service.
Pool attendant was very efficient and contrary to comments in other reviews about towels we had no complaints
The staff at reception and generally were polite and helpful.
Breakfast was adequate and waiters efficient and polite
Hotel is short walking distance from main thoroughfares of Taormina and Bus Station
Hotel is on great sight overlooking the bays below and Etna and we would recommend it as a place to spend a week as we did in beautiful Taormina.
Have difficulty understanding the bad reviews
