“Spectacular Location”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

What a magnificent grand hotel in a truly spectacular location. We visited Taormina with my Husband's Father and his Wife who are in their eighties and are very sprightly and fun loving. We were allocated two sea view rooms with magnificent views of Mt. Etna and the Ionian Sea. The balconies are spacious and they have a table and padded chairs with potted plants to complete the vista. The weather was amazing, we visited from 24/8 for 7 days. All the staff are very pleasant, polite and helpful, a special mention to the Pool Attendant who ensured we were always accommodated with beds and towels complete with a friendly smile. Also, the talented piano player who practised a special song for my Father-in-law to which they danced to on the Terrace.
If I have a complaint, and I don't even want to mention it but the quality of the food at dinner was inconsistent and often lukewarm. We were also told that dessert wasn't included on the Half Board option and that we would have to pay (we later found out, after 4 days that it was included), good for the diet but we missed 4 days of a wonderful chocolate mousse! We didn't complain as didn't want to spoil the holiday. Taormina is a picturesque hillside Town steeped in history, with quaint winding streets and lots of shops, cafés and restaurants, we absolutely loved Taormina . A visit up to the Greek Amphitheatre is well worth a visit. All of this is walkable from the Hotel. We enjoyed two lunches out and the food and service was very good.We didn't make Etna but we have been to Vesuvius, and the weather was so good we spent quality time by the pool. The maid service was excellent and the rooms always cleaned to a high standard. Don't take any notice of the negative reviews, enjoy the stunning views and the ambience of a beautiful location in Sicily.

Room Tip: Go for high floor, sea view.

If you want a fabulous view, a beautiful pool and a close walk to town this is a great choice. However, if you're at all persnickety about service, keep looking. We've traveled extensively in Italy and only stayed here on the recommendation of a family friend that grew up in Taormina. Clearly he'd never stayed in the hotel :)
From the front desk, to the porters and the hotel restaurant they have certainly not trained their staff as 4 star employees. You can do better at another hotel with a similar cirw.

The location of this hotel is breathtaking, with views from up high of the sea and Mount Etna. These views are best taken in from the swimming pool, from the bar terrace or from the very grand restaurant. We chose a half-board package with Thompson holidays and were rarely disappointed with the evening meals which were three courses, immaculately presented and offered plenty of choice each day. The best dishes were the risottos. The waiters were very attentive and charming, as were the reception staff who arranged excursions for us and gave us lots of information. The hotel itself is very large and grand. (Imagine the Overlook Hotel from The Shining) The only downside was that we had been allocated room 118 and 119 on floor -2, which have neither sea-views nor balconies, as many of the rooms do. They overlooked a courtyard garden with a pathway to the pool, but we could still see the sea and Mount Etna through the trees. The bathrooms were also quite shabby with a very small shower. Having said that, after the initial disappointment we actually found that it didn't matter. We enjoyed the views from all over the hotel and spent very little time in the rooms. Overall a fantastic week spent at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view and balcony if possible to make the most of the amazing views.

The location of the hotel is superb, just a 10 minute walk from the centre of Taormina, and the views from the bar and the pool over the bay are spectacular. You can see Mount Etna in the distance. The view from our balcony was also a real pleasure. The swimming pool was great and the lifeguard who provided the loungers and the towels was really helpful.
However, we had problems: the air conditioning in our room was not working and it took me 4 days of complaining before it was fixed. The Wi-Fi throughout the hotel was very poor. When I complained at reception, they implied the fault was with my iPhone, but I had no problems in other places with Wi-Fi.
The shower cubicle in our bathroom was very small, with a shower curtain which stuck to you, which I found annoying. Because the cubicle was so small, the bathroom floor got flooded every time I had a shower. We mopped this up with the bath mat, but often, during our stay, no bath mat was provided so we had to use towels!
Twice during our 2 week stay, no towels were provided at the pool until mid-day. A problem with the laundry apparently.
The breakfast was very poor: no fruit juice, only fruit juice drinks, and the coffee provided was undrinkable. Unusual in Italy. We learnt to order cappuccinos and these were good.
We were paying a lot for this hotel, due to the location, but so many improvements need to be made to make it a proper 4 star hotel!

Room Tip: Pick a room with a balcony and a sea view, but make sure it is not one half blocked by the stairwell...

As others have stated, the location is perfect for walking out and being at shops and restaurants within just a minute but you feel like you have the privacy and quiet of being just on the outskirts of town. We walked everywhere! The views are truly amazing....being able to see the shoreline with all the boats to the city on the cliffs to Mt. Etna all in one shot. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and most speak English very well. We stayed in room 232 (sea and city view) which I think is maybe a room not yet remodeled, very small, basic, dated. The dust layer under the furniture was noticeable-but in general the room was mostly clean. We did venture to the beach one day. The hotel is partnered with another hotel on the beach-they give you a "free pass" for beach access but heads up you pay for parking at the sister resort (5 €) and can rent two beach towels for 3€ there also. What struck us most at the beach was the "rocks" versus sand so if you plan to be in the water much you should take water shoes. It was a little rough on your feet trying to wade in and out of the water.

My wife and I have just returned from a week at this very traditional hotel.Whilst you can always find little faults with any hotel on the whole this hotel has it all.
The location is excellent - within a stones throw of centre of Taormina and all the shops and restaurants. The views are stunning from the pool and the hotel rooftop which is like an untapped resource which currently is not used to its full potential
.
The food in the restaurants is outstanding and is waiter served which is a bonus ( no silly buffets)
All the staff in the hotel are superb, they are both friendly and extremely helpful but special praise should be given to the staff in the restaurant and bars especially Franco, Angela, Tony and Giovanni as a previous reviewer stated they have endearing personalities and a great sense of fun and humour .
The pool is large and extremely clean and there is a small pool bar that provides excellent food and drink at reasonable prices,The view from this area is stunning showing the coatline and the 2 bays with Mount Etna as a backdrop.
The one downside is that as the hotel is on the slopes it is not really suitable for clients who have walking problems because there are alot of steps to get down to the pool area and from the lobby to the main road but for everyone else it is an excellent chioce.

Room Tip: Higher Floor and sea view if possible

My family and I have just spent a week at this wonderful hotel and we would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff who manage this hotel for making us feel so welcome and attending to all that we needed. We have a baby daughter and we just had so much help and the staff was so charming with baby Saskia. A special thanks goes to the hotel manager Ferdinando for looking so well after us.

Room Tip: Ask if possible for a room in the higher floors as the view will be unforgettable
