“Wonderful Boutique Hotel Perfect Location”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

We stayed at the Ashbee just one week ago and what a wonderful place. Taormina is very busy in July and what a great place to retreat to after a busy day on the streets of Taormina. We stayed in a Junior suite #26 and it was beautiful. The grounds are wonderful. You feel like you are staying at a private estate. Poor was refreshing after a day of sightseeing. Breakfasts were unbelievable. Everything you could imagine and then some. The WHOLE staff was eager to please and very attentive. They knew your name after one day. I visited the other 5 star properties in Taormina and they were beautiful but if you want to feel special tucked away in privacy this is the place. There wasn't anything they didn't do for us. We rented a Hertz car and it was delivered to the hotel . Very convenient. Parking is at a premium in town so allow the hotel to park your car. Very convenient even at $25 Euro/day. Despite small issue with bathroom drain and an air conditioning intermittent noise, we would most definitely come back. Wish more hotels took a lesson in service from the Ashbee.

Room Tip: try the junior or executive suites

We have just returned from Sicily. My husband and I stayed at The Ashbee for 2 nights last week, and what a memorable experience. When we were trying to decide which hotel to stay at, I looked at the other 5 star hotels and from other trip advisor comments, we decided to book The Ashbee. We had the most wonderful 3 days there. Breakfast is absolutely wonderful; the view breathtaking, the service impeccable, and the quality of the food is outstanding. I need to mention our server, Mary, who was so kind, discreet and clearly loves her job! She is a huge asset to the hotel. Our room was beautiful; very clean, lovely amenities and our terrace was such a treat. Our room faced the church of San Pancrazio… breathtaking! The pool, the view, the terraces all face the coast leading to Messina…. it is magical. The guests were all very discreet and respectful…. We had drinks before dinner on the terrace one evening…. It is a vision I will remember for a very long time. Fabrizio at the front desk was very attentive and helpful with restaurant and general information. I cannot say enough about this hotel. I would go back any time. My only disappointment was not going to the St. George restaurant, as I heard from other guests that it was excellent. I hope the young lady touring the hotel our last morning has her wedding there, as I cannot imagine a better place in the world. One tiny add on… our cousin dropped us off and wanted to stay for lunch with us at the hotel… he could not leave his car on site unless we paid 25 euros (the cost of parking for one day). If I were the hotel management, I might reconsider this policy, as we ended up parking his car down the street and not eating at the poolside. I wasn't too upset but my husband thought that if we are paying a 5 star price, the hotel could accommodate a free ( or 5 euro) 1 hour parking. I have been going to Taormina for 30 years and this is without a doubt my most memorable experience there so far. Grazie!

Room Tip: The rooms near the street might be a little noisy when it is high tourist season. If you can, try to...

We have just come back from a holiday in Sicily, we stayed in the Ashbee Hotel which turned out to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The food was excellent, staff were faultless especially Giovanni and Mary, the whole atmosphere was tranquil and nothing was too much trouble. Looking forward to another trip.

We stayed at The Ashbee on our honeymoon a few weeks ago, and had a really lovely week away.

The room was spacious with a big terrace, very comfortable bed, one of the better European hotel rooms I've stayed in.

The staff were excellent, particularly Giovanni who was very attentive and helpful.

My only issue with the place was the prices of drinks - it was extortionate even to have a Sprite by the pool (€6) and the alcoholic drinks are way above that. It was a special occasion, and maybe many of the regular visitors are more affluent than me, but it was hard to justify spending time in the hotel in the evening with a price list like that.

Other than that minor moan, we couldn't fault the hotel and had a wonderful time.

This Hotel has great views over the bay of Taormina, excellent service and a fantastic breakfast buffet.
In addition the Restaurant is first rate.
We found the service at the pool also to be very good ( unlike another reviewer who thought bit was slow)
The Hotel has an interesting history having been designed by C R Ashbee for an English Colonel who wished to retire from English life with its restraints and prejudices for the more free thinking Italians at that time
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic stay! Beautiful grounds and accommodations and very nice amenities. Made use of pool and roof top restaurant. Great views and the staff was very helpful. Everyone at the front desk and the roof bar went the extra step to really make my birthday a special experience. Only complaint was that the rooms are small but to be expected in area and they were still very well appointed & spotless.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

After a week of fine dining in the good Taormina restaurants, the Ashbee restaurant still was a revelation. It offers non comparable quality, service and prices. Very nice and excellent food (thanks to the chef Fabio). Perfect and very friendly service by maître Filippo. Deserves at least one star in Michelin.
