This lovely Villa Hotel poses a problem. Where could you go for your next holiday break and not be continually feeling that it was not as good as Villa Ducale. Set in a beautiful position with views across Taormina bay and over towards Mt Etna, with comfortable bedrooms and a glorious dining area that makes the most of these views. Regular free shuttle into the main town but so nice to return to the tranquility of the hotel.
All this would be wasted without one of the best team of staff that you could wish for. Always helpful, always smiling and offering intelligent tips on how to get the most out of your stay.
We could not recommend a hotel more highly and others in the business could learn a lot from this excellence in customer service.

The most impressive part of this small hotel in addition to the nice rooms and the great view is the quality of the staff and the friendly service .
The staff provide valuable information about tourist attraction restaurants and will help you with any problem you may have. The breakfast on the Teressa is tasty and insignificant.

We have returned from a magical several weeks in Sicily. Once again, a special thanks to Vagabonda for her invaluable assistance in planning our trip. TA and all of their experts have assisted us for many years now in traveling to all parts of the world and we are grateful. Our comments may seem lengthy but we hope that others planning their trip will benefit.

Sicily/Toarmina
Sicily is a magnificent place. Full of history, diversity, culture, beauty and the Mediterranean Sea with coastlines make for an amazing combination. Sicilians are full of life, playful, always embracing and helpful. Taormina is a must to visit. It is known as a resort town but is much more with amazing churches, palaces, castles, the Greek Theatre, fine restaurants and great shopping. You can use it as a base and do numerous day trips. SAT Tours offers well priced excursions with great tour guides. There are tons of hotels of every type and cost but believe me the TA rating of #1 for Villa Ducale is right on the money.

Villa Ducale (VD)
Villa Ducale is perched on one of the many hills that make Toarmina a gorgeous and charming town with spectacular coastline and views of Mt. Etna. The hotel is a large, historic villa with a Sicilian atmosphere and décor. Years ago it was transformed into a first rate establishment offering lodging and some of the best food in the area available only to guests. It has been refurbished and remodeled so the old is blended with modern amenities.

Rosaria Quartucci and her husband have created one of the most spectacular places that we have ever visited and from our TA profile you can see that we have been fortunate to travel all over the world. The awards received from Trip Advisor and other entities are more than well deserved. Rosaria did an extensive amount of research and has implemented best practices that offer not a five star establishment but easily a seven star category.

She is the guiding light of VD. She brings her leadership, passion and heart and soul to not only owning the place but functioning as an on-site manager. She is there every day greeting guests, making sure they know where to go and what to do, giving everyone attention so they feel special and welcome. In her mind she wants Villa Ducale to offer her guests a place to call home. Honestly, it is much better.

Rosaria has created a comprehensive one-stop website that I wish was available to me when planning so I share it with you because it is so well done and informative www.sicilyholidays.biz.

The staff aka “the A team”
The team at VD consists of a first rate superb staff. This is true of every single staff person and they were that way from the day we made our reservations until our departure. The “A” team anticipates and addresses your every need with courtesy, professionalism, friendliness and great humor. We felt so spoiled, coddled and well taken care of and we thank them for their attention to every detail which made for a spectacular stay.

We want to thank them all and hope we have not forgotten anyone. Mil grazie and hugs and kisses to Alessia, Antonio, Dilan, Francesca, Ilie, Loredana, Luana, Luca, Paolo, Santina, Sagar.

Location
The hotel is located approximately 1.5 miles from town. There is a free shuttle offered by the hotel and also bus stops to public and private transport right outside the door of VD. If you are game as we were it is an enjoyable and gorgeous walk to town. We love Fodors and use them religiously when mapping our trips but this time they were completely wrong identifying VD’s location as a “con”. The location is a “pro” and people pay tons of money to have the views that are offered so if you have to walk or take a bus trust us it is more than worth it.

Food
The food is exceptional, fresh daily and extremely well prepared. Personal requests were handled willingly. It was not only superior to the food served at the finest restaurants in town but was also reasonably priced. In addition, there was a full bar and they offered free appetizers every evening. Breakfast is a feast and normally included in the hotel rate. It is so hard to describe but honestly all types of foods are served and the service was superb.

In closing, we cannot exaggerate the superiority of the Hotel Villa Ducale as a place to stay in Taormina.

A group of friends and I (4 of us) spent two weeks in Italy and the beginning of our trip was Sicily. Taormina was our Day 4 destination. We had a long day of travel and sightseeing before arriving at the Hotel Villa Ducale and as soon as we walked through the door, there was real MAGIC! We were immediately greeted by a beautiful young woman named Alessia who hugged one of our group members because it was her birthday. She escorted us to the beautiful terrace restaurant overlooking Taormina and the Mediterranean and the staff offered us a prosecco as a welcome gift! There were beautiful appetizers and antipasti for us to sample and almost immediately, any stress that we had incurred faded away and we were wrapped up in the beauty and comfort of this amazing destination!

We sat down to dinner and were amazed. We're all "foodies" and have a supper club and cook together on Friday nights ... our emphasis is Italian. But what came to our table was so unexpected that we were blown away. The food was impeccable and the wine choices with our meal were amazing. My great grandmother made us fresh, homemade gnocchi almost every day and what I had for dinner this evening was the only thing I have tasted in the past 40 years of my life that reminded me of her homemade pasta!

Another staff member, Antonio, who quickly became my new best friend was simply amazing to us. We made a reservation online and didn't request separate beds in each room. When they saw 2 ladies were sharing one room and the 2 gentlemen the other, we were immediately upgraded to suites. The rooms and the bathrooms were a religious experience. The high speed wireless was phenomenal and we were able to call our families via Skype easily and efficiently.

We had a very restful evening of sleep and the next morning, we were greeted by a most amazing breakfast. Because our departure from Taormina wasn't until dinner time and checkout is at noon, the hotel stored our luggage for us until we were ready to depart. In fact, not only did they store our luggage, but it had been packed efficiently into our rental car (which they also stored for us) and kept our car in their lot until we were ready to leave.

ALL of the staff at the hotel was truly amazing but Alessia and Antonio were standouts to us. The food and service were impeccable and the experience was incomparable! We were truly treated like family members. I've been fortunate to travel the globe for business and spend some leisure time at most destinations. But nowhere around the globe have I ever experienced any service or experience like this one. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone and I can personally vouch for the fact that you will not be disappointed!

Having just returned from Villa Ducale we just wanted to let others know of this wonderful hotel. On arrival we were met by very attentive staff we were given a welcome glass of wine (would recommend Sicilian Wine) and Canapes and a wonderful view to the coast line and Mount Etna. We were then shown to our room we treated ourselves to a Junior Suite and were so pleased we had, what a beautiful room and very spacious, very tradtional in style and we were led to believe all rooms were individually decorated which is so nice as the chain hotels are getting so boring and impersonnel. We had a meal the first night of our stay which was excellent after this we then ate in Taormina and we have to say wherever we went we could not fault the food. The Sicilian people were very friendly and helpful and the views were wonderful. We would have no hesitation in recommending Villa Ducale and their very helpful staff who really made the holiday special.

What a lovely place!

Not only is the view absolutely breathtaking, look one way and it's the most fabulous view of the bay from a great height, look another way and you are seeing Mount Etna! Actually could have spent the whole holiday on the terrace alone!

The hotel is so cosy, from getting your key with it's little cow bell attached to it and all the little touches that make it seem so special, like a supply of blankets in case you are cold in reception and on the terrace, limitless amounts of umbrellas in case it rains. A complimentary shuttle bus to take you into Taormina, pre-dinner nibbles on the terrace.

The service however is the most exceptional thing. The whole team there were so helpful and everyone introduced themselves. They take great care of their guests and nothing is too much trouble. I left a souvenir T shirt behind and they graciously offered to send it to my home free of charge. Antonio spent ages telling us the best way to get to Mt Etna and what to see on the way, Paolo spent ages phoning around until he found a boat trip for us to go on.

This is one the favourite places I have ever stayed - it's defnitely in my top 10!
