We spent an amazing day at Mt Etna, the small villages around Etna, walking through a large lava tube and walking around Aci Trezza, a lovely beachside town on a private tour with Davide of Continente Sicilia. Davide is a very knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humor and speaks excellent English.

Since we were flying to Malta that evening (20h55 flight) I didn’t want to come all the way back to Taormina after the day’s tour so we arranged for Davide to meet us at Villa Carlotta and we followed him in our car. We drove to a safe place to leave our car part of the way to Mt Etna and then we drove in Davide’s car for most of the day. Before heading out to Aci Trezza we picked up our car and then again followed Davide. After Aci Trezza Davide guided us to the road to Catania and we were off to the airport. This plan worked out really well. It was easy to follow Davide’s car as he is a careful driver and we saved a lot of time by not having to go back to Taormina which gave us more time for the tour.

May 3rd through May 5th 2013- On my first visit to Sicily, I read many, many reviews. I prioritized things I wanted to see based on the two days we had to spend there ( you could easily spend a week or two). #1 was Mt. Etna. #2 was one of the Ancient Greek sites. I decided to focus on the Eastern side of Sicily and chose Syracuse as my other option. Based on my interest in Mt Etna, I came across Tripadvisor reviews of Sicliy. Continente Sicilia was rated high. I then began corresponding with Davide and found him personal, prompt, and interesting. His prices are great and considering all the extra work he put in...downright awesome. Etna is pricy...but, it is an experience that is well worth the money.

Day 1) Four of us flew into Catania. Davide picked us up at the airport and shuttled us straight to Syracuse. He arranged for a local guide to take us around historical Syracuse: Ortygia and its sites and the archaeological park. There is no way you could squeeze in as much in as we did without the help of Davide and Susana our local guide. It was enjoyable, scenic, knowledgable, and not rushed. We stayed the evening at Davide's bed and breakfast. It is clean, nicely decorated, good location, and Davide knows the best food and treats in the area of Taormina. He took us for arancini and granita and honestly it was also a locally owned location that was cheap and tasty.

Day 2) Mt Etna. Davide picked us up at the bed and breakfast and took us up the mountain. We stopped to take pictures as we wanted. We stopped at a grocery store where the butcher made us sandwiches for the day. Olive oil, ham, cheese, and awesome bread. We also packed a variety of olives that Davide selected. As we got to the top, Davide showed us around and explained how the mountain has changed after each new eruption. The snow depths were easily 20 feet high. He managed to score me the front seat of the 4X4 vehicles that take you the remainder of the ascent. We spent a good four hous walking around the mountain seeing and experiencing one of the world's most active volcanoes. It was smoking, but unfortunately no lava show. Regardless, Davide knows the volcano, he knows history, he knows shortcuts, he knows what is doable, which is all what makes him an amazing host and tour guide. He even took us to a lava tube, which honestly, there is no one who isn't local that could have found it (in my opinion) and it is right off the main road, but somewhat hidden. We went into Taormina for the evening and had dinner at a very nice restaurant that wasn't overly priced.

Thanks Davide. Best wishes and thanks for your excellent customer service skills and friendship.

We were in Sicily for two weeks and a half last May and our daytrip to Etna with Davide was among the highlights of our vacation. It definitely exceeded our expectations!

Based in Taormina, Davide is passionate and very knowledgeable about Etna. He is an outstanding and experienced guide who will customize your experience to your needs. My husband and I arrived with our hiking boots on the morning of the tour, so Davide quickly adapted his schedule to bring us on the volcano’s top craters for a strenuous hike. Our time there was unforgettable! Davide packed a delicious lunch made of local foods and we ate it up there, protected from the wind by a two weeks old solidified lava flow. Simply unforguettable…

I couldn’t recommend Davide enough; everything about our time with him was perfect. And Etna is definitely an excursion not to be missed!

Davide took us for a Day on Mt. Aetna. He was fabulous. Davide is an outstanding guide based in Taormina. Real knowledge of Aetna and volcanos in general. Can lead everything from a vigorous hike to easy walk. Excellent English skills. Tremendous enthusiasm for the mountain. We were lucky enough to be there for a paroxysm (small localized eruption). He was very excited enhancing our visit. Davide is friendly and accommodating, tailoring the experience to your wants and needs went the extra mile. He even arranged lunch and a wine tasting at a local excellent winery on the slopes of the volcano. Cannot recommend highly enough

We were lucky to have Davide from Continente Sicilia as our guide for a day trip to Etna. It was the highlight of the trip and amazing experience. What we did not realize when booking Etna tour with Continente Sicilia is that Davide creates the tour for you the way you want it to be - if you want more hiking, he'll take you to the best places to hike, if you want to admire the views without overexerting yourself, he will take you with the car as much as possible. We had a compromise - couple of hours of walking on lava above clouds (3,000 m altitude and moon landscapes), a glimpse into a lava tunnel and then fantastic wine tasting in a winery that is situated on the maximum possible altitude for vines to grow). And in addition we also visited a local honey farm on Etna, drove to Alcantara Gorges for stunning views and even stopped by Giardini Naxos to look over old lava flows and to have cannoli from Davide's favorite bakery. Davide's knowledge of Etna is really impressive and in addition we learned so much more about Italian nature and history. Going to Etna is probably once in a lifetime experience and we are happy that instead of crowded tour buses that we saw plenty on our way we chose Davide who made our trip individual and unforgetable.
