I spent 4 nights at this hotel with my sisters in July 2014 and overall we were very pleased with the hotel. The pool area is lovely and has many areas in which you can find a sun bed, each one with a different view to look at so never a boring place. The beach area was also nice even though it was pebbly and hard to get into the water without special water shoes or flip flops.
The rooms are spacious and we had a nice garden balcony area.
The breakfast was copious and lacking in nothing and had a wonderful view of Mount Etna and the sea.
There were a few things that were not up to a standard and which the hotel should take into account. The snack food by the bar was very basic and not very good at all. On top of it there was really not that much choice. Your other choice was to have a sit down meal for the value of 35 euros plus. If you don't fancy spending that much at lunch, then you are kind of stuck for choice which is a great shame.
The other criticism I have of this hotel is the times of the free shuttle buses that take you to the centre of Taormina. The 6.45 is always fully booked and the next one after that is at 20.30.Most people like to go into town around 6.30-7.30 so they can browse around the town before eating dinner, so it is no surprise that the 6.45 is always booked by mid day. If it is, you have no other option but to eat very late or take a taxi to the town. For a hotel with so many guests they should put on more buses at peak times!!!
Lastly, we were shocked to find that the wifi is not free. Everywhere you go in Taormina it is free, so a hotel of this standing should offer free wifi to it's guests. When you did pay, it i was a rather rubbish service to boot!
Despite these criticisms, I have to say most of the staff were very nice, especially Santorini at reception. Always gave a smile with the service and very very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a garden balcony.

No question this hotel is in a great spot with a lovely view of Mount Etna. Beyond that it is not worth the money to stay here. The hotel is very large and in great need of a near complete overhaul and updating. It simply has a tired and worn look about it. Hotel parking is extremely limited. If you aren't fortunate enough to get a spot, you can use the garage under the hotel for an additional 10 euro per night! Really? For the rates this hotel charges one would expect the payment of the parking fee would be covered! Front desk not really all that helpful. We asked one night for a recommended restaurant away from the crowds and reasonably priced. Turned out to be a very busy spot. And while we enjoyed it, the man at the desk failed to consider and tell us the cab ride was an additional 40 euros for the round trip!
I would not stay here again nor can I recommend it.
I would not stay here again.

Having thralled through various hotel websites to choose a hotel for a long awaited holiday I chose the Ata Hotel Capotaormina. I wasn't disappointed. An idyllic setting, it looks exactly as it does in the website photos ! Breakfast over looking the Giardini Naxos Bay and Mt. Etna is really lovely. Breakfast itself at the hotel is good , plenty of pastries, cereals, juices, champagne, hot food etc , I like fresh chopped fruit in the morning and despite there being none to help yourself when I asked the staff they were only too delighted to ensure I hot a beautiful bowl of fresh fruit every morning, the staff couldn't do enough to help. The hotel room was basic but very clean with a lovely seated garden area which we enjoyed a bottle of wine at night on our return from Taormina which is very picturesque and plenty of restaurants to choose from, if you go down the side streets off the main Corso you will find more reasonably priced restaurants with great fresh food. The shuttle bus that the hotel provides free of charge is really great , make sure to book it early as it gets booked up, also the last free bus back to hotel from Taormina is 22.30 , a taxi from Taormina is €15 . Lunch at the pool is very limited and this we found very frustrating as the pool bar only serves a limited selection of toasted / Fresh sandwiches (€9 each) which is fine for a day or two but you want more variety! The restaurant at the pool is extremely expensive ( plate of basic pasta €20) so unless you have transport to Taormina you are kinda stuck for lunch options! The pool and beach area are really lovely with lifeguards and free towels and parasols . However just beware of the jellyfish at the beach ! My partner got stung after a few minutes in the water but the lifeguard was well able to manage the sting. I was really disappointed with the hotel as they allowed a company from the UK to hold a conference from the Friday to the Sunday . This generally would not bother me the problem was the lack of professionalism witnessed by the so called " young execs" . Their behaviour was appalling around the pool when they arrived on the Friday with drinking and smoking in the pool. A otherwise hazy relaxing day for peaceful families and couples was uprooted & threatened by these loud mouthed disrespectful brats, who didn't care how their
behaviour affected others at the pool area or in the hotel itself, they were out on their balcony at 5am still keeping everyone awake. I'm more annoyed at the managers of the Foxton Group who obviously did not brief their teams on their code of conduct/ behaviour, it really left a lot to be desired! Anyhow Ata Hotel Capotaormina is a wonderful place for families or couples to holiday, the likes if the conferences above generally do not affect the holidaymakers as this one , even the staff in the hotel were shocked at the behaviour! So it's not the norm at this hotel which is a well respected hotel in the area! You will enjoy your holiday here!

First class hotel. Great breakfast and service. Nothing was too much trouble. Free wifi worked everywhere even on the beach! Wonderful view at night from the bar terrace over Mount Etna which was spouting red at night. Exciting!

Room Tip: All the rooms are a little on the small side as well as the bathrooms. We had upgraded!

WOW!!! Amazing views, excellent food, very friendly staff!!! This hotel has such a great locale!!! We had an awesome ocean view from our balcony so we watched the sunrise everyday!!! Around the corner was the restaurant and bar which overlooked the bay and Mt. Etna; magnificent views!!! The beautiful pool area also has the same wonderful bay views. There's also a private beach for hotel guests. The hotel does provide bus transportation to/from Taormina Town Center, which in itself is a rare treat!!! We were fortunate to stay there during the Art & Film Festival, hosted by Maserati; also celebrating their 100th Anniversary!!! Can I say anything more?? We will DEFINITELY be back!!!

Firstly the hotel is beautiful, especially the private beach and the salt water pool area. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. The food is overpriced so we opted to eat dinner out in Taormina every night where prices vary but there is exquisite food at great value to be found, you need not pay €60 for a bottle of wine in Wundabar as you can get the same bottle elsewhere for around €25. Avoid pretentious bars like Morganna and Q-Bar, you will be ripped off and there are probably a lot of pretentious bars wherever you call home. We stocked up on six bottles of water in Isabella for €5 instead of paying €5 for one bottle in the hotel. The hotel has its own taxi garage underneath that seems to serve the guests exclusively and the taxi drivers are very friendly and helpful. The taxi fare to Taormina is €15 and it seems to be €15 back, no matter what part of Taormina you take the taxi from.

There is a Jellyfish problem in the sea here so be warned. I was stung 15 minutes after entering the water but we only saw the warning sign displayed days later after others had been stung - they have buoys around the bathing area to warn boats away but what they should really have are nets attached to the buoys to counter the surge of jellyfish in the Mediterranean that is affecting Sicily.

In our final few days we watched a group of around 80 British arrive at the pool that where there as part of a conference for their London estate agent company Foxtons. They arrived in loud yobbo waves, observed by ashamed British, and stunned couples and families that had been enjoying the relatively peaceful pool. The Foxtons group proceeded to drink excessively in the pool, hack up phlegm and spit in the pool - from standing positions on the ground beside the pool, scream and shout, and throw empty plastic cups, cigarette butts, and other litter into the pool. Most people that were in the pool before they arrived left. We have heard one of the Foxton employees is in hospital from some head injury they sustained last night, no doubt alcohol related. I heard someone in the lobby mention on the phone charges may be brought against them. Thankfully they group were taken off for an excursion on the second morning and only arrived back around 5pm. Unfortunately we have now discovered, due to their loud screaming and shouting, some of them are two floors directly above us and they have taken to casually spitting off their balcony into our outdoor area.

I think it is very unfair the hotel held a conference for this loutish Foxtons London estate agent group which infringed upon the enjoyment and relaxation of regular decent holidaymakers - I hope they read this review and the ATA hotel group never hold a conference for this company again. The Foxtons estate agent employees and their directors should be ashamed of themselves and the Atahotel Capotaormina should choose more carefully who they allow hold conferences here.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

This hotel has, in my opinion, the very best position in the Taormina area. Fantastic views of Mt.Etna and the bays around. Stayed for 7 days mid June and enjoyed everything about the hotel and the surrounding area. The hotel was faultless in all respects - great room, spacious and beautifully cleaned. The view to wake up to was eye watering and the food, especially breakfast, was of first class quality. Eating in the main restaurants was a culinary experience, not cheap but outstanding quality.
To add to my pleasure a fellow guest asked me to join him for a round of golf at the Piccollo golf course on the slopes of Mt.Etna - what a treat!! A magnificent golf course in perfect condition, every hole a delight - and in such an isolated position.
A highly recommended hotel for sheer pleasure!!

Room Tip: Any sea view room with balcony would be recommended.
