Taormina is an expensive, touristy town. We were looking for something authentic, informal and inexpensive and fortunately were travelling with someone of similar tastes who has been to Taormina on a number of occasions, or we would have ended up in just another pizzeria or overpriced restaurant. He led us to this little cafeteria-style spot for lunch and it was simply perfect. There were six of us at a table, and we all had exactly what we wanted at a low price. Most everyone we saw there were locals. The people behind the counter spoke some English but it wasn't really necessary anyway, since everything is there in plain sight to choose from. My husband and I had beautiful, fresh vegetables grilled in olive oil, a lamb stew, bread and wine for only about 14 euro. Very satisfying stop and an amazing value.
