An extraordinarily well located, splendid hotel with a remarkable view over the bay and beyond. Welcoming and efficient staff offered service with a smile.
Very comfortable, spacious and clean room with all the facilities one would expect in a 4* hotel. Copious buffet breakfast with plenty of choice.
The staff are available to help park your car from the top of the steep drive if required.

We had our much anticipated and expensive HONEYMOON at the Monte Tauro in May 2010. I have to be honest, I really was disappointed by our stay there. We had paid a lot of money for a week and we had higher expectations.

As we arrived we were slightly behind some older couples and they were laughing and joking with the staff, great staff I thought. As they serviced us the staff were very cold and merely smiled at us with no conversation. We were given a small room on the 6th floor (where everyone says not to go!) just above the restaurant. We had to wait until it was ready (come on!) so headed out for something to eat. The other couples were on the 4th floor and were shown immediately!

Our room had a terrible view, obscured by a wall. I was so disappointed, I cried! Remember this was our honeymoon! The staff (even though we mentioned this) made NO effort with us being such a special time for us to spend in their hotel. So, eventually my husband rang to reception and they changed us to a room a couple of doors down and presented us with some sparkling wine, it honestly was all a bit late, even the girl said our room wasn't the best!!! Our next room was a bit dark with a really dated blue bathroom with awful lighting. And the people had just checked out so we had to wait for it to be cleaned by a very lovely and charming woman, she was the nicest person to us in the hotel!!

They did offer us a bigger room at the end of the hall at a cost of €100 a night!!!

Maybe I just thought they would treat us a little special, we had paid enough money to have some expectations, its not like we chose to stay in a hostel..The food in the restaurant (which is very 1960's) was bland and the tea and coffee always cold.

Also, the other holiday makers were a lot older, all of them at least over 50. We are not young ourselves but this was like an OAP convention. We saw only one other young English couple at the end of our stay. And nobody really swims in the pool, maybe someone gets in, very quietly and swims a lenght, then gets out. Very bizarre.

Anyway the staff never said another word to us for the rest of our trip, we found them to be polite but cold anytime we had to approach them. The pool area was nice but I don't know why so many reviewers went on about the pool man, we met him a couple of times and he repositioned our beds but he wasn't this super friendly guy or anything.

I have definitley had much better experiences in much other hotels. There seemed to be a lot of overnight passing trade and maybe this fast turnover is where they make their money, they certainly were NOT interested in making our very important honeymoon stay anything special. There were also a few conferences on in the room beside the restaurant so people were coming and going.

I would not recommend this hotel for honeymooners, you will be disappointed. But if you are heading to Taormina for a holiday then the location of the hotel is just perfect. I think that is the best thing it had going.

We had a suite with a large deck, plenty of chairs to sit in the sun. Beautiful clean room, priceless view. Easy walk to town. Only negative we found was the rude pool bar staff and outrageous prices. Everything else was great.

We travelled by car and put the address in the GPS - wrong! Don't do this because it won't get you there, you need to travel up the hill to the village, go through the busy traffic through the centre and then follow hotel signs till you come across it - a bit stressful. When you get there you will be confronted with a very sharp turn and a very steep driveway downhill which we weren't sure whether to drive down, you do but you need some nerves. When we arrived we were delighted with the quality of the hotel and the to-die-for views. They upgraded us to a junior suite but it was the unit furtherest on the left hand side facing the sea and the sun can late, went early and the views were limited. After 2 nights we asked to move and they put us in a unit on the right hand side of the hotel, brilliant, very large, own deck and the best views. Staff were very helpful, breakfast as good as anything else we had in Italy but this was one of few hotels in Italy that didn't have complimentary internet so we used a internet cafe. As other reviews have said, the pool and attendant are terrific and don't expect to go to the beach because it is too far away. Location of the hotel is as good as you can get, right by the village which is wonderful, great shopping and every meal we had in various restaurants was first class. Would have no hesitation in going back.

Stayed at the Monte Tauro - fantastic hotel and location. Would recommend this hotel as a great experience, so italian in its elegance and style. Service was exceptional, pool area is great and the Pool Attendant is unbelieveably helpful and courteous. Yes the location is steep but the views are breathtaking, You wont regret staying here, you will just pat yourself on the back that you made such a good choice. Cant wait to return one day
