“Fabulous Hotel - you couldn't ask for more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2009

We stayed at the Monte Tauro for our 10 day honeymoon, and had a wonderful time. The hotel is very conveniently located - literally a 2 minute walk to the nearest bar/restaurant and around a 10 minute walk to the cable car/Greek Theatre.
You are also near some other interesting sites, such as where part of the Godfather was fillmed (Savocca). Well worth hiring a car, although some of the hair pin bends are a bit...hairy!

I have no idea why everybody comments on the steep walk out of the hotel - because of previous reviews, I was dreading getting out of the hotel, but it really isn't a big deal!
We hired a car for the 10 days and the only thing I would say, is that's it's not overly easy to manouvre in and out of the hotel; however, staff park the car for you, so you just need to be a bit careful when coming in to the hotel's entrance.

The room we had was large, airy and spacious with a fantastic balcony - the views were awesome. All the staff were friendly, happy to help and eager to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Our room was cleaned every day - fresh towels, linen etc - and it just made everything so much more luxurious.
Breakfast was amazing - as much as you can eat, and they certainly had everything you could have imagined - including champers.

Finally a special mention to the pool attendant, who is absolutely fantastic. I have never met a member of staff so attentive and helpful - he's an absolute star.

The Monte Tauro really made our honeymoon extra special. It's well worth a visit!

Just spent a fabulous week at the Monte Tauro. It has everything you could wish for. It is ideally situated for both the Corso D'umberto (5 minute walk) and Bus Station/ Cable car (10 minute walk) There is the steep hill out of the hotel (104 paces, partly stepped) but after a couple of days you're used to it. The hill leads straight into the lovely park in which there was a free concert every night.
Our room was spacious, if dimly lit, with the balcony offering a fantastic view of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna. The towels and face cloths are changed daily and there is a plentiful supply of shampoo, soap and shower gel. In my opinion the hotel is not suitable for samll children as the gaps in the railings on the balconies look a bit too wide for comfort. The superb buffet breakfast (bacon and eggs cooked to order if you want them) offered a wide choice of fresh fruits, salamis, meats, smoked salmon, breads, cheeses and biscuits. The staff were all friendly and helpful and always greeted us when we passed them. The swimming pool area is well maintained and doesn't have the whiff of chlorine that many do. The pool attendants look after your every need (free towels) and turn the beds for you. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, but given the high cost of eating out and the good reports from other guests staying on half board, we would consider half board if we went again. The hotel was happy to look after our cases on check out day until the coach arrived and there is a shower room set aside in the main hotel for changing, so you can make most of the sunshine around the pool after checking out..

We stayed at the Monte Tauro for our honeymoon and overall found the hotel to be excellent. The location was stunning (and convenient), the staff were helpful, the rooms were spotlessley clean, contemporary and had great large balconies. Breakfast was an impressive buffet although we didn't sample any other food whilst staying there (we prefer to discover what's on offer at the local restaurants!). It was expensive, but still worth it (as Taormina is as a whole! especially with sterling being so weak).

It really is a nice hotel with a perfect location, quiet due to its lying on a cliff hanging over the sea with stunning views, but also only a climb away from the city center of Taormina with lots of things to do outside the hotel. Breakfast is great, dinner a la carte is ok (plenty of other choises of restaurants nearby also ok), for us the service of the staff did it. When they know your roomnumber even before you have to say it already the second day...this means they care to know it. Every question of service was delt with immediately and with a smile, really really great !
We had to cut our trip short due to a death in our family and the hotel even helped us and were very undertstanding (no charge for the days we wanted but couldn't stay !)
And i hope i am the last to say it : who the hell cares about the steep hill when all of Taormina is stairs, stairs and yes steep hills en stairs to climb. You don't visit this city when you are not good at your feet and you certainly stay away from it with little children (trollys). I guess there a plenty of other places to do with your children but its not Monte Tauro/Taormina.

Stayed five nights in Junior Suite in July (booked early at considerable discount) . Beautiful, modern hotel, very comfortable room and beds, copious breakfast, fabulous pool and view, friendly and efficient service particularly at pool, free wired internet in room. Beware of steep climb up to main street Via Roma (not for the faint of leg) and very pricey laundary. Otherwise a memorable stay.

If you want somewhere which is close to the town centre but also set back from the hussle and bussle of the town centre then this hotel is for you.

We have just returned from the Monte Tauro for our honeymoon on a bed and breakfast basis and were not disappointed from the time the porter collected our luggage from the top of the steep steps to the reception check-in, to the delivery of the luggage to our room.

The Room was excellent, very modern clean and fantastic view of the sea below and Mt Etna above. Breakfast was more than we ever wanted and an excellent choice for every nationality which stayed in the hotel, with plenty of food served throughout the morning for all tastes. All the food served was enjoyable and tasty and as much coffee tea and friut juice as you can consume if thats what you require.

Pool attendant was excellent at making our days by the pool stress free and relaxing and he must be commended on his friendly attitude and egerness to move our sunbeds to the direction of the sun at your earliest request. All the staff were helpful and you always got the feeling you could never ask for the wrong thing to be done.

Yes the walk up to the town is steep but it is nothing you wouldnt walk in any town centre I'm sure. But once there, the choice of shops, bars and restaurants caters for everyone.

My only disappointment about the hotel was the fact we had to leave, we would love to return and we will recommend this hotel to anyone.

Just returned from a week at this hotel. The location and our suite were excellent as was the service throughout. As other reviewers have commented there is a 30 - 40 metre climb to the main street from the hotel but this is pretty easy going and the hotel will transport your luggage down upon arrival and upon leaving the taxi will drive to the front of the hotel......so no problems there either.
The hotel has a great pool with sea views and the pool attendant is exceptional. Finding a sun bed late in the day can be a problem but where isn't in the middle of summer!!
My only complaint about this hotel would be the breakfast. Whist there is a lot to choose from there is little or no local fresh produce and it is the same every day and everything is pre-prepared or produced. On an island such as Sicily you should be able to enjoy for example fresh fruit and not out of a tin from some wholesaler.
Overall I would recommend this hotel despite my gripes about the breakfast for the other reasons mentioned.
