Stayed at the Monte Tauro - fantastic hotel and location. Would recommend this hotel as a great experience, so italian in its elegance and style. Service was exceptional, pool area is great and the Pool Attendant is unbelieveably helpful and courteous. Yes the location is steep but the views are breathtaking, You wont regret staying here, you will just pat yourself on the back that you made such a good choice. Cant wait to return one day

After spending time in malta, we decided to go to sciliy by boat for a relaxing break. the town is beautiful, with little streets and superb shopping and eating places. we stayed at hotel monte tauro and the moment we stepped into the reception you were faced with the beautiful sea and cliffs. the rooms were comtempory and roomy with ample sized balconies with fantastic views overlooking the bay and pool below.
The pool food is really recommended and all the staff were excellent.
The hotel has glass lift which overlooks the sea.
From the hotel you can reach the town easily via a steep but short hill and for the more adventurous, the lane below reaches the town towards isla bella and a small beach called porta rico... beautiful waters to swim in with boats... very talented mr ripley!
The only down side is that the town itself is very very expensive so watch out for pricey restaurants. but loved it . AND when we arrived back in malta before embarking our retaurn trip to uk my boyfriend asked me to marry him.... which I said YES!

This past summer we had the opportunity to visit the charming village of Taormina that is full of interesting shops, outdoor restaurants and historic architecture. Taormina is high up on a cliff with narrow winding streets that make it an adventure to get there. With a recommendation from a Sicilian friend, my wife, 9 year old son and I, along with 3 friends stayed at the Monte Tauro Hotel with killer views of the sea below. There are seven floors in the hotel and the higher floors have the best views. The modern lobby is on the top floor and you take the glass elevator down to your room which is literally built into the side of a mountain. We were upgraded to a larger modern room, since we were with friends who had stayed there several times before. The price of the room was around $325 dollars and that included a vary large buffet breakfast. The laid by the pool during the day and explored the village at night. There is a wonderful outdoor Greek theater within walking distance with many performances during the summer months. Fantastic hotel in a most interesting town.

As I type this review this hotel is ranked 21 in Taormina. Well if there are 20 better hotels or even better value than this then they must be simply unbelieveable.

Monte Tauro is just perfect. Granted it aint cheap, but then again for Taormina it isn't that dear either.

Beautiful swimming pool with the most attentive pool attendant I have ever seen in action. This man should lecture on how to ensure guests stay in shade/sun as required. He is military in his precision.

From what I could see all rooms have balconys overlooking the sea. We stayed on the 6th floor and our view was out of this world.

Breakfast was the best we had in Sicily. We didn't sample the restaurant, as there are an infinite number of restaurants in Taormina.

The hotel is perfectly located and it is just a stroll into the town. Hill that other people mention is not an issue if you are in any way fit or mobile. Although granted for those with mobility problems it could prove challenging.

Loved it.

My husband and I recently got married in Taormina, and stayed in Monte Tauro for the days leading up to wedding and after. We were so impressed by the pleasant helpful staff, the view from the hotel, the choice of food for breakfast and the pool. We got a free upgrade to a junior suite!! It was a really pleasant stay for us and our families. Would highly recommend Monte Tauro. And the climb up the hill from the hotel is not that bad, my 60 year old dad is awaiting hip replacement surgery and he managed it several times a day without much bother. Fabulous location!

We really envoyed our 4 day-stay at Monte Tauro hotel in September 2010: it is very well located (close to the center which makes it very easy to go to restaurants and shops), with a great view on the Taormina Bay. The swimming pool is very nice, as well as rooms (unless I'm mistaken, all of them have a sea-view and a balcony). The breakfast was very good and the hotel staff very helpful. The only "minus" might be the waiting time for the elevator, in July and August only (only one elevator in the hotel - but of course there are stairs also). I definitely recommend this hotel which offers a good value for money in my opinion in Taormina
