“Nice Pool Area to relax”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

İ traveled with my husband and 8 yrs old son. The location is nice and hotel has a splendid view. İ especially enjoyed the garden closed to the hotel. Garden should be visited. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The only critism is about lobby decoration. Lobby needs to be renovated because decoration gives old and negative impression about the hotel.

Dear Madam, dear Sir,

In all honesty we feel obliged to reply to the final statement in the review you recently published on Trip Advisor, although, we are naturally very pleased that you appear to have enjoyed your few days at Villa Belvedere in spite of the judgement you pronounced on our lobby and the unusually ‘luke-warm’ amount of stars you awarded to us, thereby causing us to lose a place in the Trip Advisor listings of the top hotels in Taormina and potentially damaging our good reputation!

While tastes are of course entirely personal, we frankly find your comments on our lobby, simply extraordinary and may we say, in no way corresponding to the style or ambience of our lobby.

Had you been badly treated here, one might better understand the reason for writing an unfavourable review – but this is not the case because when you arrived early, before the standard, town-facing room you had booked was ready for you, (check-in is normally from 2 pm), you were up-graded to a spacious private suite which happened to be unoccupied, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large, comfortable lounge and a private terrace with very pretty flower beds and a wonderful sea view, simply as a courtesy and at no extra cost at all to you.

You make no reference at all to the consideration shown to you and give us a mere ‘three’, as your final valuation which is much below what in all fairness, we believe we deserve -and normally achieve. Neither do you mention the very many questions you emailed to us on several occasions before your arrival, to which we always replied promptly with the copious, various information you requested.

The disparaging description you publish of what we consider our pleasantly welcoming lobby, where there are fresh flowers in vases and bowls on polished tables in the several, comfortably ample, lounge areas with large windows from where views over the Mediterranean can be enjoyed while relaxing on cared-for and often renewed and refurbished, high quality, upholstered arm-chairs and settees, with good, classical, oriental rugs on the tiled floors and pleasant, framed, original paintings on the walls, not to mention the several bookshelves in attractive niches in the walls and freely available to our guests - leaves us and no doubt any of our esteemed guests who chance to read it, simply amazed !

Kindest regards,

Cristian Pécaut

This is a very nice hotel with an old fashioned charm. The bedrooms are comfortable and attractive. The common rooms are cozy with inviting couches, pretty ceramics and beautiful books. There is a pool with a fantastic view.
The breakfast buffet is delicious with a huge selection. The staff is always available to help and advise. Antonella at reception was especially attentive to us but , in fact, everyone was very kind.
The hotel also has parking (15 euros) which is a bonus in this busy town with its tiny streets.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the hotel to be very well located, close to the center but at the same time, it felt like an oasis of calm.

Room Tip: Pick a rom with a sea view

The staff were so helpful & welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The bedrooms were beautifully appointed and the bathrooms were fabulous. Continental breakfasts ensured that lunch was not necessary, however lunch by the pool was an experience not to be missed. It is understandable that the hotel does not provide any restaurant for dinner as within 5 minutes walk there is an abundance of restaurants in Taormina. The reception staff provided really good suggestions for restaurants for an evening meal. The best was a simple Sicilian restaurant just outside Messina Gate. Fab food, great service and very reasonable. Hope to return.

Room Tip: Best rooms have a sea view

Taormina is a gorgeous and fun town with a multitude of hotels to choose from. Villa Belvedere is a great place to stay while visiting. It's right on the outskirts of the busy city center--about a five minute walk from the Corso Umberto (the main street)

We booked last minute and got one of the last rooms available (I think in the whole town!) so we did not have any sort of view whatsoever. I believe we paid too much for a room without a view, though, but my fault for not booking earlier. Our window was right at street level, so we couldn't even open our blinds unless we wanted to speak to everyone walking by!

The room was nice and clean; I've stayed in more spacious rooms but also much smaller rooms, too...bathroom was large with a nice shower. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water.

We only visited the pool area once; there's way too much to do in Taormina to sit by a pool! We ate lunch there our first day and it was quite good. The pool area is very relaxing and seems enjoyable if you want to hang out. I don't think it's open all that late in the day, though-we would have enjoyed having a drink down by the pool in the afternoon, but I do not think it was open.

The breakfast each morning was quite good; there was a great array of things to choose from including scrambled eggs, bacon as well as quiche and sweet cakes and fresh fruit. Breakfast is served inside, when they do have a lovely patio where you could eat instead (but there is no convenient door to the patio from the breakfast area so no one sits out there). They have an amazing view from the breakfast room, but only two or three tables get to enjoy the view from the windows.

The front desk staff is quite helpful and sits down with you as soon as you arrive to explain the lay of the land and offer suggestions of what to do and where to go.

The parking lot for the hotel is tiny and down a very steep hill-I would not recommend keeping a car here! There is a car park a little bit up the street that is much easier to get and out of, but even that being said, I wouldn't recommend renting a car in Taormina-the roads are extremely difficult to navigate!! We returned from a day trip to the wine country at dusk and we spent two hours driving around trying to return to the hotel (some roads are pedestrian only, some are one way and there are no signs!)

Bottom line: Expensive for not having a view of this beautiful area, but I would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you'll have a view from your room before you book the hotel!

A hotel that has been in the same family for 111 years and it shows. Great care is taken with everything. An international book library on the ground floor, breakfast that you can eat in the breakfast even as early as 5.20 am with smiling lady making fresh coffee and putting out the buffet, front desk helpful at all times, beds comfortable and pillows perfect etc etc

Room Tip: We had a front (facing the sea) room and I would recommend that type of room

We had a room with a terrace with magnificent views. The hotel is centrally located a short walk from the main strip. The gardens are a delight, the front desk staff were outstanding. The pool area is perfect for either a quick snack or sun baking, plus the food from the pool bar is perfect for a light lunch. The breakfast was good, not outstanding. We had 3 nights and did not have a single complaint.Considering some of the other hotels in Sicily, this hotel should be ranked higher than 3 stars.

I am an international hotel consultant and rarely write hotel reviews but given I don't act for clients in Italy I thought some comments might assist people trying to choose a venue in Taormina (a daunting task!) Our adult family of 4 spent 8 nights in this hotel and ranked it one if our best ever hotel experiences, anywhere. Forget the 3 star ranking, its nonsense. The rooms were delightful and we recommend you don't even bother paying for water views, you will spend all your waking time in the breakfast room, wonderful pool/lunch area and other terraces- all of which look at exactly the same view. Front desk staff were all outstanding, I have clients who would employ them all tomorrow! It's incredibly well priced and every other guest we spoke to raved about it like us (so the Tripadvisor comments come as no surprise) BRAVO!
