We stayed 4 night in Villa Carlotta. The Location is perfect on the top of the hill with a great view. It is 15 mins walking distance from the beach (but you need to take the 600 stairs which is quite a workout or ask for the hotel shuttle), and 5 mins walking distance from Corso Umberto and all the restaurants and shopping. The rooms are a good size, the terrasse where the breakfast is served is beautiful with a breathtaking view. The pool area is small but I guess we don't go to Taormina to stay at the hotel by the pool. The hotel has a valet parking service which is very convenient. But what really makes this hotel special is the staff which is simply amazing and will do their best to accommodate you and help you plan an unforgettable vacation!

My husband, 2 children (ages 11 and 13), and I stayed here for 8 nights in July and had an excellent time at Villa Carlotta. Our Family junior suite (room 103) was large enough to accommodate the 4 of us and had a lovely view overlooking the pool and sea. The best part of this hotel is the service and its staff. The staff made us feel like we were part of their family with their warmth and friendly smiles. A special thank you to Olga, Riccardo, Ajith, Mara, Mary and Marco for making us feel so at home.
The breakfast buffet was incredible. There were spectacular pastries, cheeses, fruits, meats, and vegetable dishes. I’m still dreaming about the ricotta cannoli and eggplant parmigiana. Yum! I have travelled to Italy many times and have stayed at many 5 star hotels around the world and you will not find a better buffet breakfast.
After the day at the beach, the pool was nice to relax at the end of each day.
Don’t stay anywhere else. Stay at Villa Carlotta!!. We can’t wait to go back.

We stayed in the apartment for 4 nights. We then moved to Villa Sant'Andrea since Villa Carlotta was fully booked.
Had a fabulous stay in Villa Carlotta. The service, location, amenities, room decor, fragrance and atmosphere are immaculate. Everyone we met...Olga, Ajhit, Alberto and the rest were friendly and helpful.
Yes the pool is small but as in all hotels located in historical centers all over Europe, you can't expect a large pool. We spent most of our time on the beach anyway.
Will return in heartbeat!

Room Tip: We stayed in the apartment, off the main building.

We have stayed four years ago for a short break in Villa Carlotta and decided to add a summer week this year to our experience. Great location, best breakfast ever, friendly stuff, nice pool and garden, overall the very good impression of our first stay was confirmed.

We had a suite with balcony with our two children which I found for a week a bit small and for the seize of the room pricy. I had booked first via internet the family appartment, but it turned out that it was already reserved so we were offered that suite - we could once wash for free. The hotel safe in our room was always a bit trapped and when we had the air condition turned off, the room felt sometimes a bit humid. Parking service (15€ per day) functionned very well as the beach service which is 13€ per person and day, usual in some Italian hotels: I guess that Charlotta could make a difference in including these fees in the rate. With small children you cannot walk in the summer to the beach, to hot and too much traffic, but the driving service is good.

We had once diner at the rooftop restaurant - and were very surprised that they did not offer children portions. Food was ok, but we preferd to have than diner at restaurant "La Botte" which is great recommendation by the stuff of Villa Carlotta and more in line with Italian dishes and pasta prices.

So, we overall we enjoyed our stay. Still, we had the impression that Villa Carlotta had so much success on Trip Advisor in the past, that it is not an easy task to keep up to all very high expections in every aspect of a stay in the hotel. I still do highly recommend the Villa Carlotta.

The very best thing about this hotel were the FANTASTIC staff - Olga , Riccardo , Johanna , Mary , Patritzia , Anju , ( apologies for spelling ) , everyone was so kind , helpful and friendly , it was a pleasure to be in their company. On arrival we were given a glass of wine and nibbles , which were served on the panoramic terrace - what a beautiful view !

We had a deluxe suite with terrace on the second floor . There was a small sitting room with a large wardrobe , a sofa and a T.V. on a chest of drawers. The bedroom was of average size with a fairly large bathroom with bidet , and overbath shower ( a seperate shower would have been so much better ) . Lovely Dr Vranja toiletries . Housekeeping kept it very clean , with fresh towels in the evening . We also had a furnished patio , which was a little cramped but very private from the other rooms. Due to the fact that the hotel faces South East , the sun went off the patio at about 4.pm , I think it stayed around the pool area and gardens for a while longer.

We had 2 evening meals in the hotel , both times the food was good but not exceptional, but of course the views were amazing. We also had room service lunch , simple salads and sandwiches .

The breakfasts were excellent , especially the fresh fruit table , and the oh so tempting sweet pastry table - strawberry flan for breakfast -why not ! There was a good selection of cheeses and cold meats , and a very Sicilian main spread .

We took the shuttle to the Lido Stockholm , it was lovely and quiet when we went on a weekday, but very busy at the weekend as you would expect.

The location of the hotel is great for walking into the centre of Taormina , just 10 mins and you have all the shops and restaurants you could want . You can take the road or walk through the shady public gardens. The only downside is that the hotel is situated more or less on a fairly busy road which winds around the side and back of the property . During the day you will hear buses and motorbikes , thankfully it is fairly quiet at night , although we did hear dogs barking for a while most evenings but never after 11 p.m.

All in all we had a lovely time at the Villa Carlotta . I was expecting a slightly more luxurious room for the price we paid ( almost 400 pounds a night ) , however the friendliness and general ambiance made up for this .

Hotel Villa Carlotta is very friendly, well run in an ideal location, within minutes walk of the centre of Taormina.

The staff are excellent, very helpful and organised. Our room had a sea view, was adequate for our needs and was kept very clean. The pool area is lovely, again very clean and tidy with view over the town to the sea. The lunch menu was a little limited but the service at the pool bar excellent. We did not eat in the rooftop restaurant although breakfast was excellent with a great selection to suit everybody.

You cannot walk to a beach from the hotel but they were very good at organising a shuttle bus from one of the local beach clubs. The best was Lido Stockholm, there was plenty of room and the service was excellent, journey time only 15 minutes and EUR 26 for two beds all day.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for anybody wishing to stay on this beautiful island, who wishes to be based within walking distance of the centre of Taormina.

As other reviewers have commented, all the members of staff throughout the hotel were welcoming and friendly. We had a large room with excellent sea views from the front and side windows. As the Olympics were on during our stay we were grateful for the wide range of satellite TV stations!

Other reviewers have mentioned that the breakfast at the Villa Carlotta was one of the best they had experienced. Although we agree that it was good, in my experience it was no better than other breakfasts we have had at other good Italian hotels. We ate at the hotel one evening, and had a nice meal on the terrace at the top of the hotel with wonderful panoramic views over the bay of Taormina. However it was certainly not cheap.

The pool area is very small, and difficult on some days to have a sunbed either around the pool or in the adjacent garden. The pool itself is too small to have a proper swim! The sun also disappeared around 5 in the evening behind other buildings. We found the pool experience at the Villa Carlotta to be disappointing, especially in comparison with our previous experience at the Hotel Borgo Pantano in Syracuse.

We enjoyed walking the busy main street, Corso Umberto, during the evenings to see all the beautiful people out relaxing! The street itself is a mixture of all the main stylish Italian designer names, with some very tacky tourist shops! This is also very true of Taormina itself, which has a really classy side but is able to charge exorbitant prices due to it's obviously wide tourist appeal. We liked the Greek theatre which staged a Tchaikovsky ballet during the evenings, and enjoyed Castelmola which is a small village above Taormina with outstanding views.

At the price of 339 euros per night, the Villa Carlotta is not cheap, and overall we would not say is very good value for money due in particular to the small pool area. We were not as enamoured as other guests who stayed there.

Dear Cofi,
thank you for your review and the high mark you gave to your Villa Carlotta experience.
We respect totally your opinion but disagree with it.
Our breakfast has been awarded by hundreds of Tripadvisor users as one of the best they ever experienced in their lives and this is a fact.
The pool is true is on the small side but you are in the center of an antique small town not in the Sicilian countryside where all you have is just a pool; plus you have to consider that Villa Carlotta stands in an archeological area and it is a small elegant classy boutique hotel not a big 100 rooms hotel therefore everything is shaped for that small amount of people and that's why people choose to stay here. The pool, which as you can read in previous reviews is much appreciated, is not the first reason to stay in Taormina but a nice plus touch. There is always room and sunbeds for everyone but sometimes August can be a bit busier.
I believe that your non totally positive review is due to the fact that you did not like our town so much, I am sorry for that but that is your personal taste (most people are in love with it).
Again thank you for staying and sorry for my inperfect English...
Mr. Andrea Quartucci
