“Charming and small”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

The small yet charming villa carlota doesn't feel like a hotel it feels like home, great mouthwatering buffet stunning view from Mt Etna. 2 big bed rooms each with televisions, chairs and desks the bathroom is amazing you won't regret going there the people who work there are really kind and helpful they will provide you with any info you need about shopping attractions beaches and places to eat and walk in also a tour bus at a surprisingly low price you need to go there pronto.

We booked the Carlotta for 2 reasons: We had arranged to see the Opera that was in the Greco Roman Theatre and it was within walking distance and it looked like a fantastic hotel.
Not sure where to start then:
It was within walking distance.
As for the Hotel:
The Staff we dealt with directly:
Olga, Reception, was great, very helpful and made our stay better.
Marco, Waiter, served us Dinner Tuesday night and did a very good job, however, he appeared to be covering the Restaurant on his own and it was a little busy. Food was good.
Overall service: Several times during our stay, 4 nights at the beginning of August, I had to go looking for Staff either at breakfast or when we had a drink on the roof terrace.
I suppose, it felt that the Hotel was understaffed at times and therefore unable to deliver the level of service I had expected.
Room: We had booked the Junior Suite and to be honest I was a little disappointed that my Children's beds were in the room's "lounge", outside the rooms bathroom: No en-suite to the main bedroom. It seems that the beds were squeezed in to allow 4 people to use the room: Not really a suite?
The terrace was the best feature of the room with a beautiful view, enough space for us all to be on and access to the grounds via the side gate.
The pool was small and we enjoyed cooling off after our days site-seeing: The young Pool attendant was very friendly.
I don't wish to appear negative because overall we enjoyed the stay and at times I have difficulty managing my expectations, but the overall experience I gained was no better than average.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite would be a good sized room for 2 people. I did not look at any other rooms whilst I...

Dear Andy,
thank you for writing this review after your stay at Villa Carlotta.
I am really sorry that you did not fully enjoy your experience with us but it may happen that sometimes someone simply booked the wrong place !
You may like Villa Carlotta or not but we are not "only average".
You simply are not a person suitable for small boutique hotel but for big brand large building hotels like Hiltons with huge pools, 200 big rooms no matter if they lack in atmosphere and charm.
A Junior Suite is "junior" which means small or smaller that a Suite; when you were offered a regular Suite you wanted to save money which is understandable but after why complaining if we had advised about the room size ?
Dear Andy I respect your opinion but suggest you to get more information before booking a hotel which could not be of your liking.
Kind regards,
Mr. Andrea Quartucci, the owner

We recently spent a few days in one of the spacious apartments that Villa Carlotta own just across the road from them. Ideal for families, it included a huge dressing room (with excellent wardrobe space, washing machines, glass fronted drawers so you could see what you had unpacked where) and a well equipped kitchen. A huge master bedroom and bathroom with shower and bath were all decorated with a beach theme from star fish to shells. A sitting room with a comfy pull out sofa bed had views onto the sea with white capped Mount Etna in the foreground. Breakfast across the road at Villa Carlotta was a lavish affair or local hams and cheeses as well as the Sicilians favourite Cannoli pastries. But there is a good pool to swim it off afterwards and the hilly walks in town help too. The staff at Villa Carlotta were lovely. Helpful, friendly, informative and nothing was ever too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended!

We spent three nights in the Vila Carlotta - the staff were wonderful - especially Olga, Nathalie and Ricardo. Originally we were only supposed to be a family of 4 but ended up with 6 of us. The staff managed to squeeze everyone in and make the trip really special. Although the hotel is small and a little outside the main thoroughfare of traffic, I think I this is a plus. We also used the shuttle service to the beach and availed of the restaurant there. We really enjoyed the amazing breakfasts at the villa and the children were very at ease.

We've spent three nights with kids in Villa Carlotta's tower room, which was a good choice, it is very comfortable for a family. The hotel is very well managed, the staffs are extremely helpful, location is perfect. You can enjoy a fantastic view from the terrace at the top during breakfast. Don't miss their canolli!

An unforgettable experience. We travel extensively and prefer 4/5 Star accommodations. We would have to give the Villa Carlotta 5+ for its excellence in every category that can be judged: the staff, the facilities, the rooms, the grounds, the amenities, the views and then there is the dining! The staff provided a welcoming tour so that we would be sure to understand all that was available to us as guests but it was very personalized and we were made to feel like welcomed guests, not simply tourists. Rooms were beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the grounds and a view to the sea. The public areas included an attractive library with an interesting collection of art books. The dining experience was truly amazing. The breakfast offerings included all of the choices we had come to expect in Italy's fine hotels - meats, cheeses, eggs, breads, yogurt, fruits, cereals, and then much more, such as egg dishes, vegetable souffles, freshly baked dolce - tortes, cannoli, biscotti. Several of the baked goods featured beautiful green pistachios. All this to be enjoyed in a beautiful roof top space overlooking the grounds with views of the sea. We would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel Villa Carlotta and hope to return someday.

Room Tip: Request a sea view.

I have never reviewed on tripadvisor, however, following our stay at Villa Carlotta felt compelled to write (well type) one!
Villa Carlotta is a unique boutique hotel that meets your expectations and much more. From the luxe accommodation, fascinating catacombs, spotless pool and beautiful gardens to the fantastic rooftop restaurant/terrace the attention to detail and service is second to none.
But what really sets Villa Carlotta apart from others are the staff who are friendly, charming and helpful without being intrusive. Nothing is a problem for them to help, advise and make your stay a memorable one.
Our highlight was dinner on the roof top terrace with breathtaking views, fantastic service from Marco and the boys who made us laugh, and delicious food like we have never tasted. Chef David is modest and will tell you he is lucky to work with such fresh produce but I know he is really a genius in the kitchen.
Thank you to all at Villa Carlotta, we hope we are lucky enough to return
