the hotel is located on the hill in taormina-mazzaro. 2km from a funicular railway to the Taormina, 3,5km to nice beach isola-bella, all a distance to these places you must cover by really busy street. there isn't posibility to go with small child or trolley. there isn,t highchair in the hotel restaurant. i think it is unimaginable in twenty first century :) in terrace where is placed a swimming pool is very dangerous for adults, so for children even more. the space between loungers and edge of swimmingpool is smaller then 0,5 meters.

This hotels only saving grace is the location view. It overlooks the bay & the view IF you have a sea facing room is very nice, with Italy just across the water.

The hotel itself is almost Fawlty Towers in both decor & management..........................hot water appears infrequently and when this is queried you are told impossible.................hot water is available all the time.

The rooms are small, poorly lit & laid out with the smallest TV's I have ever seen in a hotel & it took several requests before we could even get an extra pillow. No tea or coffee making facilities in room & the breakfast was extremely limited & they have no idea about boiling water & tea!! Noise was also a problem, with furniture being moved at all hours, the chambermaid even let herself into our room at 7.45am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The car park is on an EXTREME slope & is also very narrow...................if you are a nervous or inexperienced driveryuo will not like this place................

Just to let you know where I am coming from...
I write travel reviews for a local newspaper and from time to time we get sent to locations, mainly to write a bit of a bias view in favour of the hotel but on this occasion its purely the truth as my trip was for pleasure with my partner.
I personally am a photographer and I normally get a writer to do the words [which I struggle doing well in exchange for photos]

Right as for the hotel…
For the price you are paying compared with the other choice in the area you cant complain. Its next door neighbour you need a small mortgage if you stayed at for more than a week all be it that it is a 5 star.
The location next to the beach is great apart from one minor and one very big problem, the minor being its out of the main town by either a near impossible 5k walk, or a 15-20Euro taxi ride or a 3.5euro cable car ride [fun but only available during 8am-1am. This did cause a problem when getting early busses to places which all leave from the bus station on the top of the town.
The major problem being the truly awful road out the front of the hotel, im able bodied and 29 years of age and even I wasn’t at all comfortable walking on it, its narrow with very fast cars bombing up and down it and to make matters worse no path and in pitch darkness from 8pm onwards.
If you have a pushchair or a small child do not stay at this hotel, and if you have walking problems think very carefully about booking Taromina as it is very hilly.
If you plan on coming home drunk if this is your style please dont stay here you are asking for trouble.
I thought the quote of faulty towers was a bit harsh bit I understand where your coming from.
Lets be honest its not the best hotel you will ever stay in but lets be positive, it’s a lot cheaper that all around it, it hosts a truly fantastic view overlooking the beach, its near everything [800meter walk to cable car which leads to top town] if your not too fussy the continual breakfast is fine yes fine not great not awful just fine.
Last thing I will say is don’t lose context of what other hotels will cost you, this hotel is very expensive for what your getting but if you upgrade in quality you will have to increase your holiday price by at least double.
other useful tips are ... pool very good but fully in shade from 4pm , drinks at good price at hotel, helpful staff, clean but basic, air con the best ive ever used EVER, no good for kids or disabled, dont expect staff to help you with trips around the area as they dont deal with them very often and have no idea about any of them! , internet costs a fortune, view is to die for from the hotel.

Ok hope this helps

Certainly no 4 stars! We stayed here for a week in the junior suite in the new part of the hotel. The room, bathroom and terrace are spacious, but that's all. The beds are terrible, no place o relax, hard chairs, with no soft topping and terrible decoration. I wonder who made the pictures, he/she deserves an award. This hotel has no atmosphere at all. Terrible brackfast, far from the city, shuttle that you have to book in advance and if full, the staff gives you the only possibiliy of a taxi (euro 25/30). There is absolutely no place to relax in a comfortable chair (not even in your room or terrace) a lobby and hotel bar with no service. People are nice but service is something else. The pool not worth it. Our advise... look for another hotel!

I must write to say that my stay at Bay Palace was brilliant. The hotel is near to Isola Bella which isan incredible cove where you can watch the fishing boats. You only have to walk a little way along from the hotel and you can take the Funicar (funicular) up to Taormina (the town). The town is fantastic and if you stay in the town until late you can always take a taxi back to the hotel. I think it is better to do half board as you get a chance to sample local dishes. The pool is lovely at the hotel and I found the staff to be great. The room was clean and looked out over the bay. There is a train that runs along the front and it is a shame that I ran out of time to take the train as it must be amazing scenery. Bay Palace is truly lovely and not really a place to take children but as I do not have any it is a great place for me.

I’m writing this as I had read some of the reviews on here before I went, I don't think they fairly represent the hotel.

We arrived v late at night, and yes the hotel carpark was tiny and full, so we parked on the road, but bear in mind where Taormina is and you can see why. Most of the hotels are built into the cliff, on a narrow road, and that also applies to the 5* hotels on this road too.

The room we were given on the 1st night was on the side of the building (lateral sea views), and was pretty small, but we said we'd sort it out in the morning. In the morning the manager was happy to provide us with a much bigger room at the front of the hotel with a lovely big balcony for only 10 euros extra a night, which I think was fair (the initial price we paid was pretty cheap anyway).

Breakfast was basic but plentiful and typical of continental hotels, bread rolls, meats, cheeses, jams, the only criticism was it could do with more fruit. But the coffee was delicious!!

The pool was really clean when we where there (July) and there is a small bar by the pool, which was run by pleasant staff, you can get drinks, icecream, some snacks and the most delicious watermelon every for v reasonable price. We never ate in the restaurant, but why would you, when you can go up to town and enjoy the lively atmosphere up there.

It took about 10 mins to walk to the cable car that takes you up to the centre of Taormina (all the beaches are where most of the hotels are, and you have to get a fun cable car up the hillside to the town), and 10 min walk to the nearest beach.

To sum it up, the hotel is a great base for your holiday in Sicily, if you’re looking to go to Sicily and sit in your hotel all day, then this is probably not the hotel for you. If you want reasonable hotel with a beautiful view, that is close to the beach and town then I would definitely recommend it.
