Villa Bianca Resort
Ranked #78 of 87 Hotels in Taormina
Reviewed 6 July 2008

If only we had read the trip advisor entry dated October 11th 2007 before we had the misfortune to take a 7 day holiday at this awful hotel.
Our booking had requested a ‘quiet room’ with a sea view in the Villa Bianca hotel at the top of the hill.
Due to overbooking, we were given a sea view room in the main Principe hotel.
The room had beautiful sea views (as do all rooms at the front of this building).
Unfortunately these rooms are subjected to horrendous traffic & railway noise so we had to sleep with the windows closed & the air conditioning on.
My wife complained to the extremely rude reception manager and was told that ‘you get what you pay for’.
On entering the dining room for our first evening meal we noticed that there were no happy smiling faces; the reason soon became obvious when the food arrived – it was unbelievably bad (the main course consisted of cold mashed potato, a curled-up piece of veal & a few tinned vegetables).
We aborted the meal, complained to the head waiter & went for some delicious food in one of the local restaurants.
Do you look forward to scrumptious holiday breakfasts; the smell of fresh bread, freshly squeezed fruit juice, a choice of fresh fruit & yogurts, maybe some toast & a few hot dishes? If you do then please stay away from this hotel!
Here, the breakfast food resembles the offering in a very poor ‘backpackers’ hostel.
You can, if you are desperately hungry, eat cornflakes or muesli, tinned peaches or pears, white bread rolls (some having been ‘cling filmed’ from the day before) a few croissants if you are quick and some thin slices of cheese & ham; you can attempt to drink the made-up, weak & sugary ‘fruit’ drink of questionable flavour – as for any hot food; yes, there is always tea or coffee (please view my pictures).
The hotel has beautiful views from the sun terraces but unfortunately there are no sun shades or sun beds for client use.
Remarkably the hotel has a few good points – our room was kept spotlessly clean & the Sunday evening buffet meal was excellent, so why can’t all the meals be like this?
The Principe hotel has been recently refurbished but the Villa Bianca hotel is a building in desperate need of complete refurbishment.
Over the years we have travelled to many countries but can honestly say that this hotel is the worst one we have sampled – please avoid it like the plague!
To all the clients who have given this hotel a high food score, I can only surmise that these people must be accustomed to eating very badly at home.

We were there last summer and thanks to previous reviews on Trip advisor there was no surprises. As previously mentioned it consists of 2 parts: Willa Bianca and Willa Bianca Principe. The first one is older and uphill, so it could be a problem for people with health condition. In that case be sure to book main building (Willa Bianca Principe) since they charge it the same and tend to make no difference between two when giving you the room. We had that problem, but it was our travel agent that was responsible for it, not the hotel and we bared that in mind. Still, I must say that front desk manager was so rude that he didn’t event want to spare one minute of his “precious” time to help us solve the problem. He was INCREADIBLY rude.
But, we salved the problem and we enjoyed the rest of our stay in Villa Bianca since it has very good location if you are looking for peaceful vacation without drunken tourists. It is near the beaches of Taormina Mare( as this part of Taormina is called) and the hotel has its own beach free of charge for the guests. You need to take hotel shuttle to reach it, but it appeared very good comparing to the others and it could save you some money since the prices rang from 5 to 15 Euros per person.
The cable car is right in front of the hotel if you want to spend evening in Taormina which is highly recommended. In case you are to lazy to move around in the evening there is an amazing hotel with beautiful garden and concert piano, soft jazz performance and candles on the tables just across the street.
The food was very good, Italian style. We appreciated that the fish was served almost every evening.
All in all, this hotel was good value for money and I would strongly recommend it. Just don’t mass with front desk manager cause you’ll get to know that dark side of Sicilian attitude.

This hotel is split into 2 parts, we had to catch the lift to the top floor walk across a terrace down 10 steps then up another 62 steps! great for walking off the cannoli's ! the hotel was not full of uk tourists which we liked, ideal spot for the cable car up to the stunning town of Taormina , shingle beach nice and the bay was beautiful. Food in hotel was not bad, but we went first week in may and the area was very quiet, so dont go if your looking for night life. Sicily was beautiful, lots to see and do, peolpe very friendly and fab food.

We booked one week in this Hotel...The rooms in the main building (with a busy -and I mean busy - street just in front of it, oh, and I almost forgot the busy train link, with endless trains in the middle of the night). They have rooms in another building too, but then you have to climb hundreds of stairs...

They usually overbook the hotel, when we arrived they told us they are fully booked (although we booked at a travel agency weeks before), and we had to stay in some other hotel for two nights and then move back again...The hotel staff is incredibly rude and unhelpful I have to say.

The food at this hotel is really terrible...Sicilian dishes are actually quite tasty...but not here. They served us potatoes, every single day potatoes as a side dish...

Taormina lost lots of it charm in the last couple of years...they built too many hotels, the traffic is really annoying, almost like in London, and they try to rip off tourists all the time...Coffee, drinks even water are all quite expensive. I would go somewhere else in Sicily next time...

My wife and I stayed at the Villa Bianca for two weeks from 2nd June 2007 and loved it.
Situated on a fairly busy corner in Mazzaro, the hotel is ideally situated for the funicular up to the beautiful town of Taormina.
Fom the outside the hotel is modern, pretty and clean-looking and this is confirmed once inside. The reception area is well laid out with plenty of space to sit at night if you choose not to use the outside terrace. Check-in was straightforward and welcoming and, as we were based in the separate, top part of the hotel,we and our bags were driven to our small, fairly basic, but perfectly adequate room. We had a free room safe, a fridge and mini-bar, a TV and a terrace. Although the room was nothing special it served its purpose well enough. This part of the hotel is quieter than the lower part with views of hills rather than the sea and the less mobile visitor should note that the lift stops at the 5th floor, after which there is a walk across a terrace, down a fire escape and up about 75 more steps to the rooms.
Breakfast is a buffet of yoghurt, fruit, bread, preserves, etc. and there is always plenty. Dinner, in the main hotel, was always excellent, the food freshly prepared and served by friendly, efficient waiters. The selection is varied and caters for most tastes.
Although the Villa Bianca has no pool on site there is a free bus to a beach and pool about three miles away. The shingle beach is beautifully clean and well kept, the beds and umbrellas are free, but don't expect the bus to be bang on time!
We would recommed the Villa Bianca to anyone wanting a decent hotel to use as a base, rather than a spectacular hotel in which to spend most of their time and we would definitely return.

This was pure potluck having driven into Matzurro and just looking back from the square the hotel seemed so clean and inviting. Went in saw a room, brilliant view over a stunning coastline. We were hooked. Add to that a spotless cleaning regime superb food with excellent and friendly service. What a find. No pool but free access to the sister hotels facilities and an excellent mini bus service to the local beach. Totally enjoyable.
