“Nice hotel, great location and attentive staff”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

I had a nice stay at Hotel Villa Riis, pool was nice and clean, breakfast was included, the staff were attentive and very helpful and kind, the room was cleaned every day. The Hotel is located a 2 minute walk from the end of the main street, Corso Umberto. Close to all shops, restaurants and is about a 10 minute walk to the bus station and the cable car that goes down to Isola Bella and a 5 minute walk to the old Teatro. I had a sea view room with a beautiful, uninterrupted view of the ocean. I would stay at this hotel again.

My husband and I had come up to Taormina, sight-seeing and had intended to stay for only the day. When we changed our minds and wanted to stay overnight, this was one of the few hotels with an opening and they graciously allowed us to check in at 2am! Yes, this hotel has a "vintage" feel to it, but what hotel in Italy doesn't unless your paying to stay at the Weston or an upscale, modern place. Everything was very clean, gorgeous views from our adorable balcony, and very comfortable. Breakfast was included with our room - not super fancy, but very good and more than adequate array of food. A small, but intimate hotel that completed our enjoyable time in Taormina!

We stayed at this hotel and faded glory is an understatement. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls, room service was forgotten one day, breakfast was prepared by the hotel porter who did his best but was no cook, electric socket covers are missing, the lift screeched and groaned everytime we used it, the swimming pool was not useable, water dripped in the bathroom non-stop ..... apart from that the location was wonderful. You would be well advised to avoid this hotel.
It was early in the season and frankly nothing was ready. The stay from hell.

Room Tip: Don't even thing about it - just find another hotel

Dear ,
we are sorry for your disappointment,
we have just started the new season and despite all the efforts we were not able to offer the service that you deserve.
We have already arranged all the little things that you mentioned, and fortunately our breakfast attendant has taken his place. Last week we have many guests who were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of our hotel, the services offered and the excellent sleep quality the quality of the fit out and furnishings, the attention to detail everywhere, the friendly attentive staff at all levels.
Our breakfast is served in the panoramic terrace offers all the specialties of the Mediterranean cuisine.
We’re sorry ,hoping to see you again we send our best regards.

The location and setting are ideal. A fantastic secluded pool and a grassy tennis court. If the walls could speak they would tell great tales of the glory days. Anyone want to save the place? Bring you own wi-fi set up.

We booked the Hotel through a travel agent for a 5 day trip in June. We expected a standard room, but were pleasantly surprised by an upper floor seaview suite with the ancient theater on one side and Mt Etna on the other! The hotel room was quiet, with plenty of hot water and ample water pressure. The air conditioning worked like a charm and was not noisy - this proved quite important since the Taormina area was experiencing very hot weather (90 F) during our visit. In addition, we enjoyed the use of the pool and gymnasium - the pool in particular was kept to high standards of cleanliness and was an extremely welcome site after a long day walking around Taormina.

Our room was cleaned meticulously daily with fresh towels and linens and the cleaning was always completed before our return by mid-afternoon. The entire hotel has a nice victorian style period feel to it.

Recommendation based on location which was exceptional for us since it was on the west end of Taormina just off the main road Corso Umberto. Far enough to be quiet, but close enough to everything. The views as well are exceptional.

We definitely plan to return.

We stayed at Hotel Villa Riis in May and it was a great stay, very friendly staff and very helpful!! we had a great room with an outstanding view and a lovely terrace!! Very clean and good sized room, I recommend it to anyone that wants to be central and also stay in a great period Villa with lovely furnishings. What is really good is that the hotel has its own parking within the htel grounds so its very comfortable and safe!! good prices as well!!

Room Tip: Room with a terrace are a must!

Villa Riis is perfectly located at the top of the Corso Umberto, a 2 minute walk to the main street. I booked a single and was pleasantly surprised to be given a rather large double on the top floor, what I imagine to be one of the better rooms, I suspect this was because they were very quiet as June is classed out of season. The staff were friendly if a little reserved but seemed genuine and whilst they lack the typical in your face bright smile typical hotel service approach, its not necessarily a bad thing. The hotel itself is a very beautiful both building and interior with amazing views over the Mazzuro coast, yes it in need of some TLC but it does have a certain charm. However, breakfast is bad, they desperately need to address this, I went down on the first of 4 mornings and didn't bother again. The swimming pool was empty all week, i spent a couple of hours there on my last day and like everything else a bit of TLC and it could be even better but the pool is clean, there are sunbeds and towels and its serenely peaceful. Overall my stay was pleasant, not amazing but I have seen and stayed in worse places. There are some low budget quick wins to be made at Villa Riis ( breakfast, sweep round the pool, lighting) to attract more clientele to then pay for the bigger investment required. Don't rule out Villa Riis
