My fiancé and I have just returned from a four night stay at the Hotel Condor. We booked this hotel as we wanted a cheap but good hotel to stay in for a few nights, and this hotel was certainly what we wanted.
Upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed, given a map of the local area and shown to our room (room 45). The room was spacious and very clean. It had a double bed, a wardrobe, a table, a small sofa, a small balcony with a table and two chairs and a good sized bathroom.
The room had a good sea view with Calabria on the mainland in the distance.
On the day of our arrival, we asked the hotel staff how far away a villa was in which some friends of ours were staying. The directions to the villa given to us by our friends were very poor, but the Hotel Condor staff tried very hard to help us. They looked on their computer, at local maps and they phoned taxi companies to ask them. The staff really went out of their way to try and help us join out friends.
During our stay we asked the hotel staff to call taxis for us and we asked to use the free wifi. This was never a problem and the staff were always prompt in arranging this for us.
The hotel has a bar area on the roof which we visited this on two of the nights. The bar service was very pleasant.
The maids visit the room each day to change the towels and bedding.
Breakfast is served on the terrace also. We were served some fruit juice and a selection of bread rolls, biscuits, croissants and jams. We were offered ham and cheese each morning and offered tea and coffees.
There was also a table with other food on which guests could help themselves to. This mainly contained cornflakes, oranges, doughnuts, tart, juice and morning bread.
Hotel Condor is situated high up on a hill however it is only a 5 minute walk to the Corso Umberto, the main street. The Corso Umberto is the main tourist street in Taormina and is full of shops selling local produce such as Limoncello and almond/marzipan flavoured sweets. It also has a lot of jewellery shops and restaurants. It was busy but not over crowded. I also though this area was very clean.
The Hotel Condor is surprisingly quiet although it is close to the Corso Umberto. It was very nice to be at a quiet hotel but at the same time close to night life if we wanted it.
This really is a great hotel and the service is fantastic – especially for a two star hotel. Hotel Condor does not have a swimming pool but it does have a terrace on the roof containing some sunbeds.
I think this is a great place to stay and we will return to this hotel on our next visit to Sicily.
Make sure you ask the hotel for restaurant recommendations. We made the mistake of not doing this on our first night and ended up eating at an expensive restaurant with very poorly prepared pasta. After we asked the hotel for advice on where to eat and they suggested several places. We chose the Rosso Peperoncino which was fantastic and great value (no. 6 of 99 restaurants in Taormina at the time of writing):
