I thought I'd be the first to review Villa Greta as a restaurant (it's a b'nb too) because it is of particular interest to those who are staying up on the high slopes of Taormina. So if you are based well above the main Corso Umberto and don't fancy the walk back up all those steps afterwards (when you are stuffed with pasta, primi platti, vino and gelato) then check out the Villa Greta. For further convenience, it has two entrances on two levels of the Via Leonardo da Vinci.
You will find a proper family-run place that has real Sicilian home cooking and quirky decor with lots of bits and pieces to look at. On the night we went we were served by the daughter, who spoke excellent English and then proceeded to cook for us as well! They have a suggested menu for the evening and we happily concurred - as it was like having dinner with friends - and they served us with a half litre of wine, even though they don't normally do 50cl. The food was delicious and the ice cream that rounded it off was some of the best we'd had. We went in the evening after dark, but we could tell that the windows have stunning views of Etna and the coast looking south.
Definitely worth trying wherever you are - you can park a small car outside the top entrance - but very handy for those staying 'up top' e.g. Villa Sara which has no restaurant and is just round the corner. And if want to escape the rather touristy Corso, at least Villa Greta is a walk DOWN after the meal!
