This is a must-do if you are staying in Taormina or Catania, towns dominated by this volcano. Our guide was Ezio who took a mixed party of 7 for the day by Landrover. He is an amateur vulcanologist and beekeeper and lover of all things to do with Etna. We walked up a lava field to two recent volcanic craters. The walk was dramatic and the views magnificent. Afterwards we descended into a lava cave and then lunched late at the Gambino vineyard, during which we sampled 5 wines whilst eating anti-pasti of different cheeses, olives and meats. On the return home we bathed our tired feet in a river running through an ancient lava flow.
Throughout Ezio was constantly explaining what we were seeing and making sure we all had a good experience. The highlight of my week in Taormina.

We had booked another tour and then were told of this one when we were at the apt we stayed in in Taormina. As this one was a bit cheaper and encompassed more with a small group we quickly cancelled the other one. What a great experience!! Our guide 'Casanova' Marcello, was a great host! The other tour members fun to meet. First we went to the gorges on quite a little hike, then we were lucky enough to pick a few oranges to eat!! That was an experience in itself. We then went to a fantastic small store where we were able to purchase some food items that were made locally, cheese, honey, bread and meats. We were given ample samples to try and were never under any pressure to buy anything. From there we went to the lava fields and had quite the hike! I honestly cant say if it was too long for most as I have been all over Italy in the last 3 weeks and walked and walked so I am a bit tired. I wouldn't change a thing on the tour! By this time we were all famished and thirsty. Marcello took us to a winery where we had all the cheese, bread, wine and olives we wanted. All in all a wonderful day , a fantastic experience and one I would highly recommend.

My husband and I had a lovely time on our Etna tour. There was good communication with the company before the trip itself and we were picked up very punctually at the agreed meeting point. The trip started straight away with a drive towards Etna and then after about 45 minutes-an hour our trek began.

Out guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with lots of information about the volcano, the soil, the trees and how the volcanic area developed over time. We walked for a couple of hours, which was neither too long, nor too short- stopping to hear information along the way.

At lunchtime, we stopped on a vineyard, where we were served cheese, olives and a range of cold meats and other foods typical of the area and then, naturally invited (with no pressure at all) to make some purchases.

Our trip then continued to other areas of natural beauty in the surrounding area, including a natural stream that we visited at more than one point. We were then taken back to our original pick-up point at exactly the time promised having had what we both considered t be a lovely day and, although not that cheap, still cheaper than many and good value for money.

This trip was the highlight of our holiday. Saw lava flows, calderas and the destruction from the 2002 earthquake. The guide - Ezio - was brilliant - we learnt so much from him. There aren't words to describe how good this trip was. I doubt that on the usual tourist trips that go up the cable cars that you would have experienced etna so close up and learnt as much.

Highly recommended excursion with Etna People, so glad we decided not to do the "normal" tourist trap thing, going to the main crater via Rifugio Sapienza and the cable car. Ezio guided us and gave us a real feel for the mountain, the landscape, and the people living in close contact with the vulcano.

The climb to the Button Hole Line craters was amazing, exhilarating, wonderful. We also thouroughly enjoyed exploring a lava cave, and the heavenly Alcantara river. The information about the natural history of Etna, the various eruptions, the flora, and the terrain were all interesting.

Grazie Ezio (e Andrea), ci avete fatto passare una giornata bellissima!
