“No words to Describe”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

We went to the Hotel Sirius on the 15th July-26th July 2012. Wow what an amazing experience. The Hotel in itself was off the charts and we were lucky enough to have the most wonderful views over Taormina bay. The staff which I would prefer to call friends that were at the Hotel could not do enough for us, from the poolside bar to the Breakfast Restaurant so polite and if you needed anything you only had to ask. The room was extremely clean and very Italian, food at the hotel was so fresh every morning with a lot to choose from. No failures in any way for myself and my friend, just a small caution to take into consideration for people that are a little infirm or have health problems, the walk out of the hotel was steep but the hotel were more than happy to provide assistance to any needs if the case may have arisen. Taormina itself offered many things to see including Mount Etna full day cruise round the Volcanic Islands from Panarea-Stromboli (From 10am in the morning until 1am the next day). The Sea side was not a place to relax due to the fact that every five minutes you were disturbed with many people offering massage or touristic gifts and it had many large stones to lay on if you did not have a private hotel placement, but it was worth the experience but the poolside at the hotel Sirius was the best in any case. All in all Amazing. If you want a great Restaurant in Taormina please go to Romeo and Juliet they offer amazing traditional Italian food and live music every night very friendly people and great Guitarist. Loved the Hotel and People we met and Taromina.

Room Tip: Junior Suite overlooking Taormina Bay. Its the best

I stayed in Taormina with a friend of mine from July 2-6. We arrived at Hotel Sirius to a very steep driveway. We were greeted by very friendly staff who all spoke English. We got our hotel room right away and it was very cute! We had our own terrace with an incredible view which we loved! There was very little room to put our luggage but we managed. The bathroom was very spacious and clean. The town was a 5 - 10 minute walk away. The hardest part was walking up the steep driveway. The breakfast which was included was very good! We looked forward to it every morning. The staff was very nice and the view again was incredible! Just what you want to see while eating breakfast! :) The cable car was right next to the hotel. We took that to and from the beach (Isola Bella). The day we left we had a 8:30 am flight so there was no bus that could take us to the airport until 7:30. We ended up taking a cab which was 100 euros. So, make sure you have a later flight so you can get on the bus to the airport. The hotel knew we had an early flight, they opened up the restaurant (early) and set up a few things for us to eat for breakfast. We thought that was very nice of them! And they also carried our luggages to the cab (up a flight of stairs). Taormina is beautiful and I would go back and stay at this hotel!

We stayed from 9 to 23 June 2012 having booked with Thomson UK. We had room 132 on the third floor. This has a balcony with a seaview and a side view of the pool and the coast area towards Letojanni. It received the morning sun and was lovely. The room facilities were as described by Thomson and the cleaning service was to a very high standard by a charming lady. If you did not understand Italian the range of channels was a bit limited but there was BBC World and CNN for English speakers and other countries were served too - German, Polish, French. We were able to see almost all the international matches for the European Nations finals. In addition, there was free wi-fi in the room for keeping up with news via the internet and who wants to spend holiday time watching TV.

All of the staff were friendly and welcoming as was the owner/manager. Service in the dining room was efficient and the waiters were always cheerful and smiling. We thoroughly enjoyed the wide range of dishes that we were served across the two weeks. Others have complained about portion sizes but quite frankly I do not understand this. The meals we had were well-balanced and sufficient bearing in mind that we only ate light lunch outside. The system of ordering dinner at breakfast time worked very well. I chose the pasta first course every day but my wife chose more widely. We sampled every kind of main course - fish, meat, chicken, involtini di pesce spada etc. and never regretted a single choice. I never needed to add either salt or pepper to any dish. Desserts were fairly typical and included local cheeses, different cakes, semi-freddi and gelati.

The common areas of the hotel were stylishly furnished and the spaces to sit and enjoy the views were plentiful. The large terrace outside the lounge was a wonderful spot at twilight. On our last two nights they moved dinner outdoors which is the high summer custom. There were two lifts for moving through the hotel's five floors. The pool area was overseen by a lifeguard who also prepared light meals and served drinks - coffees, soft drinks and beers. He was very friendly and also professional. There were sufficient sunbeds and umbrellas for everyone. It was about five minutes' walk uphill to Porta di Messina to enter the old centre of Taormina. It is a real jewel in Sicily's crown.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return to it very soon.

We booked this 4 star hotel through Finnish Tour Operator Sun Tours and flew from Helsinki on the 13th of June for 7 nights. The hotel looked fabulous in the brochure and on it's own website.
To summarise our review of the hotel we would make the following comments:-

The room sizes are small for the claimed standard of hotel. Our room, 134, had a damaged bathroom floor which we repoted to reception. The alternative room was not as good so we decided to stay with 134.
The reception team were a total mixed bag! The manager and one of the receptionists were at best offhand but Fabiola was the exception. She was helpful, friendly, always smiling and genuinely interested in our stay.
The Housekeeping staff were all excellent and the standard of cleanliness is very high.

We were on a half board package which was like a curate's egg - good in parts! The breakfast was a good continental standard but let down by providing weak squash instead of fresh juice in a country where oranges are grown!

However, the evening meals left a lot to be desired. The portions were very small and presented badly. Only the canneloni and risotto were up to reasonable standard and were hot. The meal on the 14th was an absolute disgrace. Had we not prepaid we would not have accepted the charge for it.
We also feel that they should have provided more service in the lounge areas and not just the pool. There was no room service so I would only give this property 3 stars. It would not take much to radically improve the service and catering.
As we were attending our daughter's wedding we did not stay in the hotel as much. Only Fabiola and Pietro made us feel at home and great credit must go to them.
This is not a hotel for anyone who has walking difficulties as Taormina in all hills and steps!

Room Tip: Avoid room 115!

Stayed here in May 2012 with 2 friends. We were afraid that the triple room might feel a bit cramped but in fact it was very spacious with a fantastic terrace overlooking the bay. The location was perfect, just a couple of minutes outside of the walled town and one minute from the cable car which led down to the beautiful beach. The hotel and gardens are lovely, something beautiful to see everywhere you turn but the best part of all was the friendly, helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them to ensure that we had a wonderful holiday and a special word of thanks to the lovely receptionist Fabiola who went to so much trouble for us!

Arrived 3 June 12 for a week's hoilday, booked this hotel in December 11 due to my daughter getting married in Taormina. Specifically requested on booking Balcony on High Floor, although Thomson's couldn't guarantee the High Floor we did expect that given 6mths notice that this could be accomodated.
On arrival we were given a back ground floor room with a terrace next to the Laundry Room, view from terrace was a brick wall with a overhanging stairway which people used to reach the pool area, therefore giving us no privacy if wanting to relax, we tried to change room but none were available.
Furnishings in room were fine it was just the position of that particular room
Breakfast O.K. Evening Meal O.K. for small appetites. Very steep slope plus stairs down to the reception, so not for people with walking difficulties.
Just be very very careful when booking a Standard Room as you may end up with Room 115.

Room Tip: Check Standard Room before booking otherwise go for a Sea View which seemed to be much bigger.

We reserved 2 rooms. My husband and I got a room on the last floor, no balcony/view, and worst of all smelled like sewage! The other couple we traveled with had an airy room on the 2nd floor with a balcony. The front desk staff in the am was a bit rude. The woman in the evening was much more pleasant. The breakfast was okay. The hotel location was good. The only problem was that you had to walk up and down a steep drive way to get to the hotel entrance. This is not a good hotel to stay at for anyone who has difficulty walking.

Room Tip: Request a room with a balcony on a higher floor.
