“Hotel Sirius”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

We spent a very enjoyable week in the hotel sirius a very clean hotel with friendly efficient staff. Only five minutes from the town centre but in a very quiet position on the cliff side with great views. We had a sea view room with a small balcony, well worth the extra money. A climb from the the hotel onto the street was not too strenuous but as with the town of Taormina a reasonable level of mobility is required to negotiate the streets.
We were on B&B terms and found the breakfast good if not fantastic,we did not eat during the evenings prefering the atmosphere of the town with its large choice of excellent restaurants with Ristorante Linconttzo close to the hotel well worth a visit.

We stayed for 7 nights. The room was not large but the large balcony and the spectacular views to the straits of Messina and the mainland compensated. Driving into the car park was definitely not for a nervous driver, though staff would have helped if necessary. The hotel clings to the side of the mountain. Reception is on the 5th floor, rooms are below and the pool is below the first floor - there is a lift!. This hotel is not for people with mobility problems, but the location to restaurants and the sights of Taormina was perfect. Wi fi was good. The lounge was extensive and very attractive, but no one used it. We didn't have dinner in the hotel as there were so many wonderful restaurants close by. Breakfasts were extensive and beautifully prepared with a huge choice. Staff were always friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Pros: The staff and the facilities were excellent. A lovely pool with refreshments available. Lovely room with large double bed which we found very comfortable. Bedding seemed to be changed every other day and extra towels etc were provided on request.

Cons: None really, other than this is based on an early season visit. I would hope that those visiting in the busier summer months will have a similar very enjoyable experience.

Location: The town is a 5 minute walk away and more restaurants than you can shake a stick at. The cable car to and from the beaches is only minutes away as well.

This was our first visit to Taormina and despite doing the research there is always a bit of trepidation stepping into the unknown. Thankfully everything about the hotel lived up to expectations and we had a lovely stay. The staff were extremely helpful at all times; on reception, in the dining room and the cleaning staff. The clientele, apart from one young family, probably averaged age 50+ and from a cross section of Europe.
On reception good English was spoken (I know it should not matter, but it helps) and information was very forthcoming when asked. The dining room overlooks the coast and is nice and airy(not sure how it could be described as cramped in a previous review). Breakfast was fresh, in the continental style; a good variety of fruits, meats, cheeses, etc. We did not eat in there in the evening so cannot comment. Probably need to be up earlier though to benefit from a table by the window.
We followed advice on the forums re catching the local 'Etna Bus' from Catania airport (cheap and easy to catch) and was delighted to find the Taormina bus terminal was only a few minutes walk around the corner from the hotel.
My only caveat, and the hotel can do nothing about this, is that it is terraced down the slope, with a steep access road (only short) and everything is either up or downstairs (although there is a lift). We did not find this a problem but if you have any mobility issues, could be frustrating. Having said that, if that is the case, visiting Taormina as a resort will be challenging as it is on a steep hill. I should add that we paid a bit extra for a mini suite overlooking the sea, so it was not a typical room, having the luxury of its own terrace, but from glimpses into other rooms in passing they all seemed to be of a similar style of decor.

Room Tip: It is worth the extra Euro's to get a 'sea view' for the dramatic coastline

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. We found the staff very friendly and the location excellent, Good pool and pool bar with stunning views. The main bar terrace is even better. If you hire a car (which we probably would not do again for this part of Sicily) there is small car park but hotel staff will park it for you. It is worth investing in a sea view room - "suites" provide a further upgrade but the rooms are not much bigger. Rooms are not very large and show some age, but the balcony make a difference. The walk up and down to the road is not nearly as bad as some have made out and once there the cable car, bus station, several good restaurants and the town itself are not far away at all. Its expensive, but that is Taormina. The hotel also has some very interesting furnishings and pictures.

Room Tip: If there for more than a couple of days choose the sea view, and not at the very bottom just above t...

This is a really lovely, characteristic hotel with loads of charm - like an English manor, Sicilian style. Great location (though not if you have a mobility difficulty) - close to bus station and main street in town. Very clean. Our room was good but think those overlooking the pool have a better view - ask for one of them. Good, effective fridge in room, unlike some hotels I've stayed in. No problems with the wi-fi. The pool area is excellent with good loungers and towels are provided. Loved the lounge and terrace - great places for reading or a nightcap with lovely views. Didn't have dinner in hotel so can't comment on that - would recommend Mama Rosa in Toarmina. No problem getting breakfast if you have an early start to your day. Staff extremely professional, helpful and friendly. Only complaint was useless hairdryer - bring your own! In summary, loved this hotel!

Accomodating, good views. Close to everything we wanted to see.
Had parking but charged us 8E per night.
Internet was sporadic.
There was a cute balcony with ta good view. A great place to sit with a glass of wine after exploring the town.
