“A Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We stayed at Hotel Sirius for five nights in July this year, we had a wonderful stay. The hotel is literally across the road from the bus station( which is very convenient as we travelled from the airport via the bus) and is only a few minutes walk to the centre of Taormina. The hotel has amazing views over looking the bay, we stayed in Room 106 a triple room with a wrap round balcony making the most of the view especially the amazing sunrises. The room was large with good air conditioning, the bathroom had a very good shower and spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel. Previous reviews have already mentioned the good breakfast, the very helpful and friendly staff and the stunning pool views. We did not find the winding drive any problem. I agree with a previous review that it would be nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. This is my first review on Tripadvisor, I was compelled to write a review after staying at such a lovely hotel. I hope you found this review helpful.

We stayed at Hotel Sirius last year and made the decision to return as we loved the charm of the hotel as well as the friendly and helpful staff.

The ladies on reception are very professional and will assist with questions, arranging bookings etc. The Manager runs the hotel well and it is kept in pristine condition, especially the beautiful gardens. The gardener was hard at work every day pruning and weeding and it was a delight to be surrounded by a blaze of colour.

The pool area is kept very clean by Andre who also makes light lunches and snacks at the pool bar. Beautiful sea views from the pool patio over to the Lido.

Our room was very large with ample storage space and a side sea view. The air conditioning was good and there's a small mini bar stocked with water, beer and wine. A small bottle of water was priced at 1.5 euros, the same as last year.

The hotel reception can arrange transport to some of the beach clubs on the Lido. We went to Club Tropicana and were collected at the hotel and driven to the beach on the Lido. We were shown to two reserved sunbeds and a parasol for the cost of 16 euros including return transport. Club Tropicana has a restaurant and snack bar. We enjoyed our day there and would recommend as it costs less than Mazzaro beach.

Breakfast had plenty of choice each morning- eggs, hams, cheeses, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, bread, pastries, toast, jams etc. The little bread rolls were lovely as were the croissants. Three flavours of fruit juice also available as well as cappuccino, espresso and Americano coffees.

There is a steep winding drive leading down to the hotel reception and it would be problematic for people with walking difficulties but we somehow found it easier this year as it wasn't a surprise! I wouldn't let this aspect deter you from staying at the Sirius as the hotel is located a short walk from the Corso Umberto and shops, bars and restaurants.

We'd like to thank Fabiola for her kindness shown to us and to all the staff for making our stay pleasurable.

We travelled here first week in June the area is stunning with properties clinging onto the cliffs above the little cove.We stayed bed and breakfast and ate out every night as there is plenty of places to eat in the old town which is 5 minutes walk up hill. The hotel is on a hill with a steep drive down to reception and lots of stairs we did not mind this as it helped to keep fit after eating the fabulous Taormina ice creams. If you go off the main street you get better value for money try going up or down the side streets to look at restaurant. The staff were very help especially one lady on reception her English was amazing. We took a local bus down to 2 different beaches which was very cheap. If you have chance got up Mount Etna it was expensive but well worth the cost as the views were incredible.

My wife and I have traveled considerable in the United States and Europe over the past 30 years and the only negative that I have regarding this beautiful property is that there are no facilities for making tea or coffee in the rooms. However, you can get hot water for preparing coffee or tea by walking down several flights of stairs to the pool area to get some hot water. One would think that would be a standard for a 4 star hotel. I think this is true for the United States.
I'm not inclined to paint the Sirius Hotel in a negative light, I would in fact return there on my next trip to Sicily.
I would be glad to recommend the Sirius Hotel to other travelers.

Beautifully decorated and furnished, Sirius is a small traditional hotel with fantastic views and a lovely, well kept pool. We were a group of six friends, sharing three rooms. The rooms varied, ours was small but perfectly formed, with a bath and hand-held shower, and its own (though overlooked) terrace with table and chairs. The beds were really comfortable, there is air-conditioning and a min-bar, and it's possible to block out the light with shutters and curtains.

On the downside, there are no tea making facilities, our room was rather dark, and the hairdryer resembled a piece of vacuum cleaner hose. If you are like me and rely on an efficient dryer, best to pack one!

The location of Sirius is excellent; close to the centre but far enough away to be totally peaceful, there is an abundance of shops and restaurants, bars and coffee stops close by, and the cable car to the beach is also nearby.

Staff at the hotel were efficient and courteous, and one of the receptionists in particular was extremely helpful organising our airport transfers, restaurant bookings and Mount Etna trip (a MUST) efficiently and courteously. The restaurant and bar staff too were delightful, and another mention is due for the man at the poolside bar, who was pleasant and attentive even when run off his feet. It would be good to have a slightly bigger selection of snacks available here, as lunch options were not huge.

Breakfast was good, and during our stay there was plenty of fresh fruit - the peaches were divine. We took dinner one evening, and this too was good, though choice was limited compared to the multitude of really excellent restaurants in the town.

One point that I would make, though it is not a criticism, more a suggestion; on our last day, we stayed at the hotel until 4pm, and we were told that we could use the shower in the pool area to freshen up prior to departure. However, this would have meant six women colonising the only toilet in the pool area, and it was not a particularly nice place in which to wash and dress. A dedicated area for this, or even the facility to have the use of a room for a couple of hours for a group to shower and get dressed in a more relaxed manner, would have been lovely.

I would not hesitate to recommend Sirius to friends and family, and I would definitely stay there again. I agree that the slope to street level might be challenging for some, and if you don't like lifts, be prepared for a lot of stairs!

Room Tip: Room 129 was lovely but a little dark. It has a bath and hand-held shower. Although this was not a...

Stayed a week at this lovely, small hotel, perched on the hillside , with fantastic views overlooking the sea and sweeping bay. If you like big corporate hotels this will not be the place for you, but if like us, you prefer small, independent, friendly hotels you will love it. The staff, especially the Reception ladies are really friendly and helpful with good English and have worked there for years, which is always a good sign. All areas are scrupulously clean inside and out and the grounds are filled with beautiful plants. The pool was very well kept.
We had a junior suite with huge balcony (room 118) overlooking the pool and sea and if you enjoy sitting in the early mornings or late evenings looking over the sea, it is really well worth paying the extra for the sea view and superior room. The rooms wasn't huge, but big by Italian standards, with good storage space, a king size very comfy bed, minibar, safe and good size bathroom with rain shower. (Only downside was the shower leaked badly and part flooded the bathroom each time used).

We only stayed BB so cannot comment on dinner but breakfast was plentiful, juices, lots of fresh breads, meats, cheeses and pastries etc. only disappointment was that there was not more fresh fruit, as so much was in season, and the coffees from the machine were pretty poor quality, the cappuccino definitely did not taste like the ones we had elsewhere.

As others have said, the very steep winding drive from street to hotel reception is certainly a challenge if you are unfit or have mobility problems, but then so is most of Taormina, you have to go up and down steep steps to get anywhere. But do not let it put you off going to this wonderful hotel.

My family and I visited the Sirius Hotel, Taormina in June for 4 nights.

This hotel is truly beautiful and the staff are very kind - nothing is a problem for them. They were so kind to our daughter.

We had a balcony suite with a view over the swimming pool and the sea. Spacious room with very comfortable beds. The air conditioning wasn't very strong, but was ok due to the cool breeze.

The hotel is situated at the bottom of a fairly steep hill, so when leaving the hotel on foot required us to walk up a steep driveway to get to the street. This was fine for us, but if you plan to wear fancy shoes or have a walking impairment, this may be a problem.

The only thing I was disappointed with was the fact that we were in Italy and this hotel did not serve Italian espresso coffee at breakfast. They served perculated coffee that they call American coffee. I asked for a cappuccino and they used a machine you would find in a 7 eleven store. They pushed a button and out came a terrible cappuccino.

Apart from this, the hotel and our time in Taormina was very enjoyable. We would stay at this hotel again without hesitation.
