We recently got married in the lovely town of Taormina. Having booked through a tour operator as a honeymoon package and paying for a sea view we got neither a full sea view (which we were told was not possible when we went back to reception) or any special treatment.

When I asked our tour operator about this I was told that the hotel had promised to do something for us on the day of the wedding and when the operator followed up to ensure that they would they were told the same. Apparently the staff member they spoke with lied as we had nothing. To make it worse for EUR 800 less we could have gone accross the road to the Ariston where some of our guests stayed and got a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival and a triple balcony full sea view (without the honeymoon package).

The only positive element of the hotel was the thorough job done by the cleaning staff however we would not reccommend this hotel to anyone and it very nearly spoiled our time there. We will visit Taormina again as it is a beautiful place but I'll save my money and stay in the Ariston.

On the whole a genuinely pleasurable experience. The location of the hotel is perfect with breath taking views. Only a short walk to the cable car to the beach and a fiveminute walk into the centre of the town (and what a town!)

The service and hospitallity of the staff was good, with not a negative experience encountered. The rooms were nice, well furnished and even the cheaper rooms have pleasant balconies ideal for reading the book or having the crafty fag.

The pool, on a cliff, benefitted from fantastic views across to the mainland.

The prices of refreshments and food at the bar was somewhat expensive but not ridiculous and is to be expected at a hotel bar.

We would only have a two reservations. The first being the centrally controlled A/C, which seemed to be set to come on at the hotels discretion and generally at around 4 pm though to about 10 pm. Not ideal as I rather like the A/C at night and we didnt really benefit from it.

The major issue we had with the hotel was the extremely poor quality food. I would recommend Bed and Breakfast only. I ordered roast chicken which was served on cold plates and the dish consisted of a single chicken leg, an undercooked roast potatoe and a salad that was clearly two days old. With the wealth of restaurants of varied prices in the town we struggled to understand why anyone would subject themselves to dinning at the hotel!

On the main we would recommend the hotel to anybody.

The location of the hotel was spot on, it's near the cable car and the bus station and a small walk from the centre. Not to mention the beautiful views, well kept gardens and clean surroundings. We also had a porter take our luggage up and down the hill both on arrival and departure, which was great in the hot weather! It is hilly and perhaps if you cant walk up hills well, it might not be the best hotel, however we always found it nice after dinner to walk off a few pounds!! The reception staff were just lovely, very helpful and always smiling!

The hotel food seems to be a bone of contention throughout some of the feedback, however we all thought it offered a great choice, despite having a vegetarian in our group and a fussy eater, there was enough to choose from (usually 3 options per 3 courses), although more traditional Italian dishes would have been more welcome, it was none the less great food. The 'silver service' at dinner was fab and the waiters were very obliging, to those that complained that they were grumpy - firstly - smile - it helps! and secondly, you have to appreciate that there is a language barrier but if you arent willing to speak some Italian then I suggest you go on an English holiday! I found that they warmed to those who tried and were still polite and professional to those that asked/replied in English. The breakfast was as expected a typical continental breakfast, but that suited us and there always seemed enough supply! All in all great food and great service. Oh and the coffee was amazing!!

The room we stayed in was huge, great sea view (side view if the sea but still ample) and always kept clean. The AC would come on if it reached more than 30 degrees (we think) but because the sun set on the opposite side, it cooled alot on the evening so this wasnt a problem - you have to adjust to the heat anyway. If you keep the shutters and the curtains drawn during the day, the room would be cooler in the evening.

Taormina itself is superb, very chilled, great atmostphere, picturesque and lots of places to eat and drink (at a price but you can find a bargain everywhere!) the surroundings were second to none and I speak for the whole family - we would definitely return and stay again at Hotel Sirius!

First and foremost, the Sirius is a beautiful hotel. It's wonderfully decorated, the rooms are large and comfortable, and our room was kept spotlessly clean.
The pool area is great, and there are stunning views of the coastline.
The hotel is close to the bus station and to the cable car station, which connects Taormina with the coast. There's a short walk uphill to the town centre.
We also hired a car and found it easy to get around using the hotel as a base.
But...
The quality of the food in the evenings at the hotel was poor. I'm not saying that every single thing served was poor, but the general standard was low.
For a hotel which gives itself a 4* rating, it wasn't great.
My wife and I tried to enjoy it, but the last straw was the mashed potatoes we were served one night, which was clearly of the instant Smash variety. Not what you'd expect from an Italian hotel.
It was such a shame, and really let the hotel down. There was no excuse, as the snack bar at the beach was serving really nice snacks from about 5 euros, and I would prefer to eat there than at the hotel.
We did eat out in Taormina for two nights, which was expensive, but showed us what we were missing. We couldn't really afford to do this, and certainly couldn't for a full week. We were annoyed that the standard of food at the hotel was such that we had no choice if we wanted to sample good Italian cooking.
The buffet breakfast was exactly what I'd expect of a continental European hotel.
My advice? If you can afford to treat it as a pricey B+B, the hotel is great. If you love your food, look elsewhere.

The title concerns not only the dog itseft (it barks regularly nearby), but the staff to greater extent - no smiling, no help, always gloomy and busy.
The only plus of this hotel is location especially if you don’t rent a car. Bus station - in 1 minute, the main road (Corso Umberto) – 5 minutes, cable car (funivia) – 3 minutes, sight place – 2 minutes. Only a few people know about the sight place with spectacular view on Mazzaro and Isola Bella (just look at the foto!). It is some how connected with Zeus birth and situated near the bus station across the road.
Our double room was very small as well as the bathroom. If you book it staff will consider you as low class person, on the contrary if you are the most expensive room guest you will be all over licked. Think about it!
The walls in the room are so thin that you can hear every word, every sneeze, EVERYTHING from the room near by.
Breakfast was normal - lemon croissants are delicious, but cappuccino was poor and vegetables (cucumber) had rot. Awful!!!
It was surprising that the AC system had knife-switch on reception and you couldn’t “drive” it from your room (at the end of the April nights are not warm). So it was necessary to ask the staff to switch the AC on, but they didn’t want to do it explaining: “Other guests do NOT complain”. I just want to notice that we were 2 young girls being at the room only at nights and in days visiting different places on Sicily. And the other guests were mainly retired pairs who stay at room during the whole day and breathe hardly! That’s why it was warm in their rooms :) By the way Taormina leaves the impression of place overcrowded by pensioners (German)…
Room service leaves much to be desired. They do cleaning every day even you show “do not disturb”. They put clean towels into the bidet – disgusting!!
Expensive internet – 5E per hour; cold swimming pool.
My breathing information concerns only this hotel and our staying, vivid description of Taormina it is better to seek not on this site but on specialized ones.

We ve just returned from a wonderful holiday in Taormina. The hotel was great, in an ideal location. Our room was very comfortable with a fantastic view. The staff were extremely pleasant and courteous. The food was very good but we decided to eat out on evening just for a change and went to the restaurant recommended by the hotel. Again we were delighted! We will have very happy memories of this holiday and are looking forward to going back again.
Taormina is an expensive place and the Sirius provides very good value for money

We stayed in the last week of October/first week of November. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The weather was a bit pants, but it is almost winter so we weren't expecting a heatwave. The hotel is situated in a perfect spot, not far from any of the amenities. We were diappointed that the pool was out of action when we stayed, but hey! there's a massive bit of water about 10 minutes down the slope.

BE AWARE THAT THE WATER IN THE TAPS AT THE HOTEL IS NOT FOR DRINKING, YOU SHOULD USE BOTTLED WATER EVEN TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH. This information isn't signed at the hotel but was in the pack that the travel agent gave us.

Our room had a small balcony on the side of the hotel and we could see over to Letojanni from it. We managed to eat out there on a couple of lunchtimes which was really nice.

The breakfasts were really good with cold meats, cheese, a selection of cereals, bread, chocolate spread, jams, brioche and fruit juices. The evening meals were good with adequate portions, but the last evenings meal was a bit plain and not very warm. The wines were good but limited and expensive as was the mineral water at €3.50 for a litre (we managed to buy some at the Upim shop for 25 cents!!).

Taormina is a beautiful town and if you are prepared to explore the side streets there are plenty of surprises both architecturally and shop wise. The town is challenging as it clings to the side of a slope, but worth the effort. We visited the church of San Guiseppe (the one on the piazza Aprile IX) and we met the padre there who told us all about the church. It's a beautiful little church and well worth a visit). Please make sure that you cover yourself from shoulder to knee when visiting any church in Sicily.

The buses in the town are really good, they run on time and the drivers aren't the nutters that the car drivers are. The staff are polite and informative. We missed a bus by a minute as we thought that they wouldn't be on time and had to wait for a further 45 mintes for the next one (assumptions are soooo wrong!)

We went by bus to Castelmola and walked down via the Chiesa della Madonna della Roca. From here there is a walk down to the town taking in the Stations of the Cross, some really nice copper casts of the various stages of the Crucifiction. This is a very challenging walk, but really worth it for the views. In Castelmola there are bird of prey displays in the ruins of the Castle and some really quaint cafe/bars. One we visited (Bar Turrisi) has a very interesting theme (but not for those who are easily shocked). It has some stunning views from the terrace at the top of the building.

The weather really improved on the last two days and the views were breathtaking. On the clear days we had we had stunning views of Etna.

One week was enough for us there as it's only a small place, but I would visit another part of Sicily again. The people are so friendly and polite (there are some ignoramuses, but we found these were British/Americans/Germans rather than the Sicilians!!). Be prepared to spend money as the shops are generally high fashion/designer. It is an expensive town but one to experience.
