“God budget hotel in great location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2011

Friendly reception - I was offered a choice of two rooms as I had asked for a quiet room. Location is good to walk into Taormina. Room was very clean and had a small, modern ensuite. Room had a small desk. Bed was very firm. Wifi in the lobby was free and fast enough. There was also a computer to use in the lobby for a small fee. Great view from the terrace, but breakfast was served indoors as it was quite cold out. In all, good value considering what the hotels around Elios were charging.

We've stayed at Elios twice now & will do so again.
It's main asset is the stunning view overr the sea & Greek temples, but it is , otherwise, a completely substantial accomadation. The place itself is quite modest but the rooms are comfortable & more than adequate for a pleasant holiday stay - the "double" units are particularly convenient for an extended family or friends where you have a central foyer entrance/bathroom set-up with two very seperate living units.
There is a small communal covered patio area overlooking the sea where you can drink/eat & where we set-up our buffet style dining & which, for some obscure reason, is not used much by guests, so you will have it to yourselves most times. There are also roof-top areas, again overlooking the sea & Mt Etna, where it's very pleasant to have a few drinks, etc, in the evenings. Both times we stayed our rooms overlooked the magnificant view - &, on our 2nd visit, they gave us a healthy discount because we had stayed there before.
If you are arriving by car it's probably not the easiest place to navigate to, but I think that would apply to most Taormina accomodations anyway. We also had the inevitable parking problems but the staff helped us out most times because they have a couple of reserved spaces across the narrow road in front where they can usually move vehicles around & actually park your car for you (because in the minimal space you couldn't possibly manage it yourself).
The Hotel is also rather well positioned close to a lovely little park overlooking the sea with local restaurants, etc, but then nowhere is very far away in Taormina.

We were fortunate to have a sea view with a tiny balcony, allowing amazing panorama of bay and Etna, covered in snow. Room was large, adequately cleaned with fresh towels and a good shower. The breakfast was not self-service but with variations when asked for e.g. eggs, cheese, although the coffee was quite basic compared with other hotels stayed at. We were furnished with a residents parking permit for a charge which meant fairly easy parking near the hotel. The staff were polite and friendly and seemed at ease with us collecting out key whenever.
The highlight is the roof terrace with spectacular views.
Taormina is a beautifully situated, mainly tourist town. There are other, less tourist orientated places to visit e.g Syracusa.

Be very careful if you stay here!!! They try to slap extra's onto the bill at the end of your stay. Although instead of charging you on check out they charge your card a week later hoping you wont notice!!
Apparently air-conditioning is an additional extra, not mentioned anywhere on the voucher.
The staff were rude in the extreme, playing on the fact that most non Italian travellers do not speak Italian.
Be warned. If you want to be conned stay here, otherwise stay somewhere else. Taormina is too nice to let somewhere like this leave a bitter taste in your mouth!

We have stayed at this hotel for a week. We have booked a sea view, when we got there however, it wasn't muh of a sea view -maybe just a bit, but we had a great view of beautiful Etna. The room was on second floor, with a back balcony. When we got to the fourth floor to see the view from the terrace - it was absolutely amazing and beat it all!!! we spent couple of nights on that terrace just enjoying the view and the air.
The room overall was clean - being 2 star hotel I was prepared for shared bathroom, so I was positively surprised to see that the room was en-suite. There were hpwever ants in the bathroom once, but they got rid of it quite quickly.
We had clean towels every day, which was good.
You need to be careful with the fridge as there is a 2 Euros charge per day for using it.
There is also an extra charge for air con, we didn;t use it as i don't like air con, so that wasn;t a problem.
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly, especially the breakfast lady. Oh and the food! Awsome! The breakfast was served outside - if you were lucky and quick enough - you could have a seat with a sea view - that made you breakfast even more pleasant.
Our overall experience was extremly satisfying. Would highly recommend Elios Hotel if you don't want to spend too much money. It doesn't have a bar or swimming pool, but we really didn't come to Sicily to stay at the hotel but to be outside and see things.
a really enjoyable stay.

We stayed at Elios at the end of May and had a wonderful stay. Friendly staff, great views. Quiet location, but an easy walk to the center of things. We could see the lava flows on Etna at night and the smoke pouring out in the day from our balcony. Great terrace on the roof. Our room was fine, large shower. I would definately stay there again!

This hidden gem is worth searching for! Our resort manager booked us this hotel during our overnight in Taormina, but we were more than happy with the accomodations. The room came with 3 beds, TV, A/C, and a wardrobe (We paid an equivalent of $75). There was a shared bathroom but since it was off season, we had the whole wing to ourselves. Good water pressure in the shower with a skylight in the bathroom. Very clean. The balcony looked right out into the ocean. Breakfast was included and had an assortment of pastries and breads with coffee and juice. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially with directions around the hills of Taormina.

  • Liked — The awesome view...ask for a room that faces the ocean
  • Disliked — Shared bathroom...but that's very European
