“An adorable place to stay”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Villa Angela and absolutely adored it.
Staff: extremely friendly and helpful.
Hotel shuttle bus: meant that we had the advantage of easy access to Taormina (which can be accessed via many steps or a twisty road if you choose the long walk) while the wonderful advantage of being high up for the view of Mount Etna and away from any noise or bustle.
Rooms: classy and very well kept.
Private room terrace: lovely to sit on and gaze at Mount Etna.
Etna erupted the first night we arrived! What a thrill. Make sure that you have a member of your party on 'Etna watch' at all times! It's easy to miss the show!
Dining: you can see the volcano from the dining room. Breakfasts were tasty. When we stayed at the hotel, dinner was not served every evening. Lots of restaurants in the town and one a five minute walk up the road from the hotel.
Taormina: a beautiful town to explore. Isola Bella is a very pretty island to visit. Giardino Publico is a pretty garden to wander round. Corso Umberto is the main street and a treat to meander along. The Greek ampitheatre is an amazing sight.
I would love to return to return to Hotel Villa Angela one day.

We stayed here towards the end of July 2012 and overall its great. The staff as mentioned by other trip advisor reviewers really are more than helpful, polite and friendly and really are a credit to the place. The view is more than breathtaking,Etna and the beautiful sea all in one it was second to none. I also have to mention the food at lunch was some of the best in the whole of our Italian trip we ate lunch there almost everyday all menu options were delicious! The balcony was our favourite part of the room, really spacious and with views to die for, only thing to mention is you can see through the trellis to the neighbours balcony as the ivy isn't too thick but given time I'm sure it will thicken up and provide a bit more privacy! The rooms were clean and although not decorated in our taste, we appreciated the quality, the only thing that let the room down was the bed which is so important for me. The mattress was ok but a little hard which I can deal with and is obviously subject to taste, but the options for the quilt really made for some uncomfortable nights; it was either a sheet, a thick furry blanket or a very thick and heavy sheet which I can only describe as curtain material. I would have really appreciated a thin quilt with a comfortable cotton lining as the options provided really were not up to standard. The big issue of the breakfast, well we thought it was ok but lacking only slightly. The fresh juice did taste a bit watered down which was dissapointing, add a few more fruit options such as bannanas and it would be near perfect! One final point would be we would have loved tea and coffe making facilites in the room. Although we have mentioned a few minor details, overall we loved the hotel, it has a lovely vibe and great staff.

Room Tip: All rooms have a huge balcony and amazing view!

we had never been to taormina before so we did not know the area, and because we were so high up it was very difficult for us to travel on foot, the shuttle bus did not offer us flexibility at night therefore making it difficult to go into town and come back late, the views were to die for, from our balcony, if we were to return, i would stay in naxos, because u have more restaurants at your doorstep, and a beautiful promenade,if i had any complaints about the hotel it would only be one, and that is not having tea making facilities in the room but overall the hotel was quite and clean.but remember u need to be very very fit if u r on foot to get to the town centre if u wish to remain spontaneous.

We what can we say I can't believe some of the comments made about this wonderful hotel, this was our third stay at the Villa Angela and I must say if things were as bad as some of the comments made on here then surely no one would keep going back !!!!! but for every odd not so nice review there are at least twenty great ones. We love this place so don't believe all you read unless of course it is the good comments. We are always made welcome here and have never had a problem with anything and am sure if there was a problem then Katherine would certainly sort it the staff are so nice and friendly and nothing is too much trouble we have never had a problem getting a sun bed yes some of the English guests whilst we were there made sure they got the beds they wanted every day but but not everyone behaved like they did and yes I am also English we just found it a bit odd to seem someone actually doing this before they ate breakfast when there was clearly no need. The breakfast were good and varied and if you wanted to order something then you could I asked for a cappuccino every morning and was made one you could also order eggs if you wanted fresh pastries every morning fresh fruit cheese and bread cereal toast various eggs hams. It appears to me that there is no pleasing some people and my husband always maintains you can please some people some of the time but you can't please everyone all of the time so to all you lovely staff at Villa Angela keep smiling doing what you are doing and Charlie thanks for everything as for the room size al the rooms are of a good size and if you want extra large rooms with big en suites then you should go to America. On a positive note we have travelled to different places and the view at this hotel from your room is just amazing we always had lunch at the hotel and have always gone into town on an evening to eat there are so many places to choose from and its nice to try different places. Having said that the hotel did open the restaurant at least three nights whilst we were there this time we will certainly be going back a fourth time.

In summary I cannot rate this hotel and its staff high enough and would highly recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in and Taormina is stunning.

We stayed here in August 2012 for our honeymoon and it was perfect. The views from everywhere in this hotel are amazing, they have to be one of the best in Taormina !! All of the staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. From the moment we booked our room to the moment we left we could not have asked anymore more of the staff. Katherine in particular was excellent. She is extremely helpful and friendly and her recommendations for restaurants and local knowledge made our stay effortless. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff and the swift service, always with a smile, is a huge credit to this hotel.

Our room was amazing, 4 poster bed, with Jacuzzi bath and again those stunning views. Our balcony was large with 2 sun loungers and table with 2 chairs. Perfect for private sunbathing and watching the sunset behind Mt Etna with a complimentary bottle of bubbly. The air conditioning was a welcome relief from 38 degree heat and I was even able to leave it on at night as it was so quiet I could sleep with it on. A first in any hotel I’ve stayed in.

The choice at breakfast was vast and we ate lunch twice at the hotel (the other days we weren’t out and about so we ate out). The hotel only offers one evening meal per week on a Monday which wasn’t an issue for us as we went into town every night to eat. Why would you come to Taormina and stay in the hotel to eat when there is so much to explore just a few minutes away.

There are steps down into town from the hotel which are steep but perfectly safe and well lit and the views on the walk down are again amazing. The hotel offers a shuttle service into town and back and therefore we took the lazy option and got a lift back up every night.

We used the shuttle service everyday sometimes in the morning and in the evening and only on one occasion was the minibus booked up but because nothing is too much trouble for the staff they did a special shuttle run into town just for the 2 of us in between the prescribed timetable.

The hotel and grounds are impeccably kept and the fresh towels for the pool and beach each day is a nice little touch.

I could go on, this hotel is wonderful….

Thank you all so very much for making our honeymoon perfect. We will be back !!

We were here first week in September on our honeymoon and we had a fantastic time. On arrival the reception staff were so friendly and explained a bit about the area, we were then shown our room where waiting was a bottle of Prosecco, stepping out on the balcony I was speechless, the view was the most amazing thing ever! I could have spent the week just sitting on the balcony with my Prosecco!

We had lunch which was lovely, the hotel only does evening meals on a Monday but this never bothered us as we like to eat out somewhere different every night. There is a restaurant a 5 minute walk up the hill which is lovely and the views are amazing. Reception staff very helpful when I needed an ice bucket for more Prosecco and to answer any queries.

Pool was fine, be aware you get the usual selfish people that dash down first thing to claim their beds then bugger off till the afternoon, this didn't bother us as we only spent 2 afternoons at the pool and there was always beds free, but found it hilarious as they looked so stupid, hotel staff should inform them this is not allowed, pool big enough, most of the time it was just me in it!

Room was small but fine as we were hardly in it, cleaned every day, if I had to moan about something it would be that the hair dryer didn't work properly but that wasn't an issue. Air conditioning wasn't great and would say it did need improved.

Breakfast was different but we enjoyed it, big selection of ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, spinach, fruit, croissants, cakes, tomatoes, peppers, yoghurt, boiled eggs, bread, rolls, juice, tea and coffee, if you wanted something hot then they would make this for you.

The hotel is right at the top of Taormina so be prepared for some walking, we enjoyed the walk down to the centre in the morning by taking the steps, yes there are lots of them but it didn't bother us, we walked back up twice which was hard going especially in the heat but glad we can say be did, the hotel bus came back for us rest of time, the bus is very handy, last one is 11.30 but that suited us. The centre has lots of restaurants and cocktails bars so you have lots to choose from.

Our last 2 nighst we went to Castlemola and have to say wow wow wow, this is a must if you are in Taormina. First night we ate a Bocciola restaurant in the square which was lovely but our last night was the best ever, we went to Gallo Cedrone which is a family run restaurant, mama and her sons were there, it was perfect and the food was the best ever, I had mamas lasagna, wow, we were there for hours!

Brilliant honeymoon in a lovely place x

We stayed at this hotel during the first week of September 2012

Given this hotel was rated as a four star I was very disappointed with the facilities and the quality

How can a hotel be rated four star when it doesn't even open its restaurant in the evening? The bar area was poor and effectively in the same area as the reception. The swimming pool was small and clearly not big enough if a large number of guests wanted to use this facility at the same time

While the terrace was of a good size, the room was small, especially given it was rated as "deluxe". The air conditioning did not work properly and had to be run on maximum to have any real effect - it made a very loud noise

The breakfasts were poor with limited choice and No hot food offered at all......

On the 2 days when we left early for excursions we were presented with a breakfast in a bag which consisted of 2 biscuits, jam, a yoghurt, and a pear.....

On two other days, even though we got to breakfast very early, due I suspect to a large group of american guests leaving on excursions early, much of the food had been consumed already and hadn't be replaced leaving a poor choice ....

The town is descibed in the travel brochure as a short distace away - what they didn't tell you was this distance was based on a straight vertical descent down the side of the hill - it actually takes over 600 steps to get down to the town and a lot more time than suggested in the brochure to get there...

The hotel offered a mini bus service to and from the town - useful - but it charged 20 euros each per person for the week... although not a significant cost, wouldn't it be nice, on the basis of the location of the hotel and the fact that this was an expensive hotel, to offer a complementary service .... but, no

On the positive side it must be said that the staff are first class, friendly, and very helpful

But I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a four star hotel and paying a good price
