“Lovely hotel with a great view for those seeking calm and privacy”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed at San Pietro at the end of October with a family. We had booked a junior suite which was spacious, nicely decorated, with a lovely bathroom and a balcony overlooking the sea. The breakfast was sumptuous and personnel warm and welcoming. At the end of the season the pool could be kept warmer (maybe it's not heated, I don't know). With small children you might prefer hotels with a heated swimming pool ( Eg. Grand Hotel Timeo).

A wonderful, luxurious hotel where the staff are friendly and helpful. A beautiful setting just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Taormina. Breakfast and lunch were excellent but dinner was a little disappointing. Food and drinks at the hotel are expensive. A highlight of the holiday was a private excursion to Mount Etna with BDM Sicily, which we booked through the hotel reception. If you're looking for a 'get away from it all' holiday, this hotel is for you.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room with a balcony and sea view. The 'classic' rooms that overlook the...

Just returned from a weekend break. Rooms very spacious and clean. Location not quite right, around 20 minute walk up to the main corso. Hotel provides shuttle service. Make sure you wear trousers to have a drink in the bar - no shorts allowed (in the heat??). Bar closes before midnight - poor service for a 5 star hotel.

If you want the best of both worlds this is a great location. If you want access by a short walk or shuttle to the city or shuttle to the sister properties beach this is the right hotel.

The staff is very helpful and eager to accommodate

We did this trip this time last year. The weather this time was ten out of ten from dawn to dusk. Non stop sun. Our comments are that it is a beautiful relaxing place to stay. Views to die for and a great pool. Rooms where, as now, pleasent, cool, spacious with a fab view from the balcony. Waking up in the morning with the sun banging on the curtains followed by breakfast and then a dip in the pool...not bad for starters. We ate out alot as we wanted to get out for some exericse and also eating at the restaurant was pricey. Probably the very best pasta dishes in the region tho. If price is not a problem then by all means eat in. The service is very good all round even verging on the underwhelming side which we prefer. Its a pity that the menu's are expensive as I'm sure a lot of guests would like to eat in the restaurant more. Its not as if every Tom, Dick and Harry are going to pour into the hotel from the street as its a bit to far from the centre of town but, if it's the hotel managements policy then so be it.
The free taxi/transport service is very good and quite necessay if you dont want to walk through the 30 degrees afternoon heat to town and back. (this years temperatures)
We visited the beach once via the hotel transport. Two good restaurants but quite a gritty beach. No sand and no rocks. Towels, parasol and sun loungers all free.
Excellent front end staff this year at the hotel . (Last year they were all a bit grumpy.)
We recommend a hire car but it isnt necessary if you are staying for a 'short stay'.
As said, we stayed at the San Pietro last year and again this year and all being well will make it a third time which is very unusual for us.
The reviews for San Pietro do vary and maybe there is justification but we've been twice and enjoyed the whole experience more. The overall package is good.
Our only complaint was that no dusting was done under our bed whilst we were there.
We hope that this helps someone make a decision to go or not!

Room Tip: Any room facing the sea.

I really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel San Pietro. The rooms were well appointed and very clean with wonderful Frette linens. The grounds were beautiful with great views from every vantage point. Lunch in the garden was a highpoint. The breakfasts were very nice, with all sorts of selections of fresh juices and delicious baked goods as well as meats and cheeses and fresh fruit. The pool was perfectly situated with sun most of the day, and all afternoon. The water was a perfect temperature - refreshing but not freezing and not "bath water" either. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I really felt like everyone wanted to ensure we had a pleasant stay. Yes the hotel is a 10 to 15 minute walk to town, but it was easy to do and actually faster than the shuttle in some ways.

Yes, the drinks were expensive at the hotel, but they were expensive at every hotel in Taormina. It just goes with the territory.

I would certainly recommend this hotel and look forward to a return stay!

Room Tip: I'd recommend requesting a room with a sea view. Well worth the extra money.

I can't say enough about this hotel, thereby no words can express the good old fashion hospitality, professionalism and expertise of this hotel and its' staff. Vera is the most professional front desk person you will ever come across and housekeeping is top notch with not a speck of dirt and/or anything out of place. Before I could get off the telephone with a request, assistance was at the door.

This hotel is for mature and professional persons. It is peaceful, warm and lovely. As a doctor who wanted to surprise my husband with a trip to Mt Etna for his 40th birthday, this was perfect. He is an historian and chef and found the atmosphere, historic sights and views to be amazing. Most of all he had a pasta made with sea urchin prepared by the chef at the hotel and it was life changing. Throughout the remaining of our trip to the French and Italian Riveria he searched high and low for other restaurants that would offer this dish and was unsuccessful. Apparently, this dish is rare and quite costly, thereby the cost was justifiable.

The bedding was stupendous, I tried to find the sheets and coverings locally in town and found that the cost of the bedding was equal to the average persons monthly salary. But there was no was possible I would sleep on anything less now that I had experienced the bedding at San Pietro. This will be our home away from home.

This will be the best money you have ever spent. I pray they keep up the quality and standard of this hotel. Far, better than many of the other so called five star hotels we have stayed.
