Stayed in Sept 2013 for 4 nights. Found the hotel to be basic. On the plus side its in a good location, the pool area is quite small but perfectly fine and the rooms were very clean. The balcony although extremely small had a nice view of the bay and Mt Etna. On the negative side the lift was tiny, the rooms were in need of some modernisation, they had no fridge and the TV didnt work, and although the bathroom was clean it did smell very musty. However the major downside of this hotel has to be the noise from the street which I know is not the fault of the hotel but the constant stream of mopeds at all hours of the night made it difficult to sleep even with the windows closed and shutters down. You dont come to a beautiful place like Taormina to stay in your hotel room so I would recommend this hotel to someone looking for an affordable no frills hotel - however if you are a light sleeper or looking for a modern hotel I would think strongly about booking this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor as far away from the road as possible.

A hotel voucher service took us from airport to the hotel and the Australian woman did this was excellent. Many times we have had such a service; never has this included trips on the way to the hotel and again on the way back to the airport.
We had written the hotel and asked to be upgraded and this was done upon our arrival and all that we asked for, e.g., a fridge and air conditioner in our room were already plugged in and running. Everything was quite reasonable priced. Tony at the pool and Maya at the front desk introduced themselves and were excellent – throughout our stay. The pool was amazing! Bring your own towels and lunch at the pool was good. The staff helped us with directions to buy theatre tickets, etc. The décor, despite previous complaints on this site, was just fine. There were magazines and books laid out around the hotel. And there were all sorts of little private balconies off of the stairwells. We were on the 3rd floor and there were not a lot of stairs; in fact, I did not even take the lift, but there was one. The impressions we had at the end of the first day was that we had lucked out and ended up at a great hotel.
This impression did not change for the duration of our visit. The hotel was in a very good, central location, within walking distance of a grocery store, the main strip, restaurants, and both upscale ones and of the type where locals actually eat – everything we needed. One day we accidently left the key in the outside of the door and the cleaner stopped to tell us. We were unable to delay our check out, but I can see why- they were fully booked and justifiably so. I would highly recommend this hotel to others!

Room Tip: Ask to be upgraded - it is worth it. We had a view with a balcony to die for!

We stayed here for 4 nights in September. The hotel room was a good size, but the shower was hardly working. The Air Conditioning in the room costs is an extra €10 a night...this hotel will squeeze you for every last penny. Considering that Taormina are now also charging a city tax, these hotels should be inspected as to the quality of what they are delivering, particularly in relation of customer service. Good location for sight seeing, but wouldnt recommend it, Guy who was working reception was unbelievably rude. All other staff were great - but that guy's attitude - as the first person you meet when you get to the hotel just gives such a bad impression.

Stayed in this hotel for one week in September. How disappointing. Everything about it was average, breakfast was very limited, no fruit available ( couldn't believe this ) just bread, cheese, ham, boiled eggs. Rooms were very small, tv didn't work, pool was tiny. Taormina is beautiful but very expensive, so we spend a lot of our time outdoors rather than coming back to hotel as the hotel was so bad. The hotel staff were okay but could improve small things which would make a huge difference to guests. We got the holiday for a good price in a sale but would hate if we had paid full price. Look at other accommodation. Also very noisy with traffic.

Room Tip: Pick room with seaview and not below 3 rd floor

The rooms are very simple. The swimmingpool very small. The location is not bad, but has no parking, you must park far and expensive about 15 eur/day to be taken into account when comparing other prices.

I stayed at this hotel for a week in June - we asked for a room with a view and we certainly got that, it was stunning.
The room was quite small and so was the balcony, it was always kept clean and was perfect for the price we paid
There is free wifi in the lobby area and the pool is great with friendly staff and snacks available, I can imagine though that it would get busy at the height of summer as its quite small, but there are a few wooden sunbeds and the temperature of the water was always just right.
Breakfast is a bit disappointing as there was never any fruit on offer, however you could go to the local supermarket which is a 2 min walk away... The breakfast was bread rolls, cheeses and hard boiled eggs, again great views from the breakfast room.
The staff at reception were great, especially those on night shift, one particular interesting character - the bar was open all night for bottles of water and other drinks.
The location was good as its not right in the centre but still close enough to walk to the Corso where all the restaurants and bars are and about 10 mins from the cable car which takes you to the beach.
If I were to stay in taormina again and I was on a budget I would stay here.
There is a city tax of 1 euro per person per day that you need to pay on departure and if you want ac you have to pay extra although the fan in the room was fine for us when we were there in June

We have just had a week at the Hotel Splendid. We did the normal thing and read the reviews which varied a lot, some not filling us with confidence ! Delighted to say we had a fabulous time staying here and will be returning yearly. The entrance lobby is cool, clean, spacious and welcoming, with a large reception area, bar, lounge seating and a large graceful piano. there are 2 lifts or stairs to the rooms. we booked a double seaview with balcony and although on arrival at first we thought the room was perhaps on the small side with small balcony big enough for 2 chairs, the shower room well appointed, spotlesslessly clean and with nice towels and toiletries. it was perfectly adequate for our needs, with a great view of the sea. The dining room on the 4th floor was large, bright, airy and very pleasant with wonderful views. The girls attending were lovely, happy and very helpful and the whole area was immaculately clean and well presented. The breakfast (7.30-10am ) was fabulous, cereals, croissants, hams, cheese, boiled eggs, yoghurts, juices, absolutely lovely, and leisurely. The pool was perfect ! totally privately positioned with sunbeds around and a little drinks/coffee and food bar , this area was bliss ! so very clean and tidy and the pool pristine, Well Done to Francesco for a job well done.
Mia at the reception was wonderful and couldnt have been more helpful, arranging beach shuttles ( 8 euro per person for shuttle, sunbed & umbrella was such a bargain ) beach towels, information on daytrips, buses.. everything !
The Hotel is so perfectly situated. yes it is a bit of a hike the first day with your luggage but after that it took a couple minutes and you were in the main Corsa Umberto with all its variety. shops, sights, restaurants, coffee bars. No need for a car, you can easily stroll around. being set away from the main bustle of the town made time at the hotel beautifully quiet, time around the pool relaxing. Just a minute from the hotel is a small supermarcate for water and beach snacks. Overall a wonderful stay, and we were sorry to leave. I will however phone and book direct with the hotel in future and book a triple room which were very big and had a much bigger balcony, it will be well worth that little extra

Room Tip: spend the extra, go triple !
