Monastero San Silvestro
Reviewed 8 October 2013

After 3 nights in a big city we were happy to spread out here and have some space, a most gorgeous pool and a kitchen to have our own breakfasts.

What we didn't know was that we would have to bring everything. It was well stocked with pots, pans, plates, etc. but nothing like dish detergent or paper towels. I'm not complaining, just saying we wish we had known.
We got to eat figs right off the tree - that was one of the highlights of our whole trip!

Dear Laura, we are happy you enjoyed your stay at the Monastero San Silvestro. His review gives us the opportunity to inform users of Trip Advisor who will be our guests. The detergent is present in the apartments, if she did not find it we have forgotten. We ask our guests to notify us if anything is missing. Paper towels do not we put them. If you expected to find salt, pepper, oil, sugar, coffee, do not put them in the apartment. Our guests who have forgotten or were in need of salt or sugar or else may ask. Our farm is located 2 minutes drive from the nearest supermarket so you can take everything you need easily.
Thank you and we are happy to have appreciated our figs.
Our best wishes.

Stayed here for 2 weeks in August. To be honest the accomodation is a bit basic, particularly the kitchen. However this is being a bit picky because it is a lovely old building and our apartment (Rosemarino) was very clean. We also ate out a lot, so the kitchen wasn't a problem. The air conditioning was a real plus, as was the Wi Fi which worked very well. The salt water pool was good and was cleaned every morning. What made this a 4 star and not a 3 star review was Donnato, the manager. He worked hard (up at 6am) and was extremely helpful, even at one point printing us times of trains to Rome, and telling us which was the best station (Terentola) to catch the train. He had a good sense of humour and he was a real star.

Have just completed two stays at this property with my wife, the first for three days was so good we immediately booked in for another five days. This property is a gem. Located 5 mins drive from the walls of Cortona this accommodation is close to everything. Montepulchiano and San Gimignano are 20 and 40 mins drive respectively, a great outlet shopping mall is 10 mins drive away, Cortona is at most 5 mins drive and within 5 minutes you have the town of Camucia and local supermarkets and shops for stocking up at. The accommodations themselves are roomy and traditional, but tasteful and modern with great air conditioning, amazing wifi throughout the property nice big bedrooms and bathrooms and great kitchen for cooking. The grounds are large and well maintained with a great pool. The area is quiet and relaxing, this really is a fantastic place for basing yourself to see Tuscany or just to escape and relax. Donnato your host is fantastic, very helpful and gives great advice, always available when you need him, can't praise him enough. Would recommend to anyone this property, the best we stayed in throughout Italy and would definitely stay here again. Superb, top quality, can't say enough.

Room Tip: All rooms great however 1 bedroom apartment is great with nice balcony for eating.

A very serene and rustic villa dating back to the 14th century boasts all the original features of the monastery it is named after. For me, it was a very surreal experience to be staying in a place with so much history. The property is very big, with lush green lawns. it has it's own swimming pool. It hosts self catering apartments, which is a cool idea for long term stays and the rooms are air conditioned.
The best part is it is close to all the main tourist attractions in Italy, like Rome, Pisa, Florence., and if you have your own car can easily explore the Tuscan region.
Donetto, the manager is an extremely nice and helpful person. He made the stay extra special by providing us with all sorts of help and advice. He was always available. A very very pleasant person indeed.
i would recommend anyone travelling in this region to definitely stay here.
