i feel that the falconiere has had some very harsh reviews written about, its actually very good. the grounds and views are superb, a real treat. The rooms are lovely, even my classical room was like a suite, and there no insect problems or problems with the doors being old, besides, why replace a rustic, chamrimg door with some unaatractive, cheap modern thing? i also did get enough toiletries for 5 days. the swimming pools are clean and are well placed, the water however sometimes, can take your breath away. the hotel has a very sweet falcon as a mascot, and a simply wondeful chapel on site. the breakfasts, well what can i say, a great experience, im not going to spoil the surprise for you. we were on the hill and had our own breakfast room besides our pool and great views, you get plain omlettes, but if you want to try the different omlettes with the kind girl who makes them, go down to the main resturaunt. the staff are fine, the waiters spoke good english, and the reception staff bent over backwards for us to book resturaunts in cortona, and helped get to the hotel on the first day when we were lost. the food is very good, but horrensdously expensive, i suggest you eat their the first night, and then try out cortona's resturaunts. the wineyard tors and cooking lessons are money well spent, and their own olive oil, wine and olives are great.

so i say, dont listen to these bad reviews, some of thing sthey say are just not true.

I was shocked with my recent stay at Il Falconiere in Cortona, Italy. While I found the setting, grounds and views gorgeous, the service was some of the worst I've encountered in my life. The front desk was rude and completely unhelpful. They led us astray and refused to advise us on day trips time and time again. I've never heard the word "no" so many times on a vacation. And we saw many other unhappy guests complaining to the "concierge." This is not a cheap hotel, and I was disappointed by the lack of intimacy. Even on our last night, the restaurant host who had seated us for the four previous evenings greeted us with a blank stare and asked for our room number. I was very disappointed overall.

Hotel owner is focused on the Michelin restaurant - the hotel is an after thought. The service is mediocre at best. I wouldn't recommend visiting with children as there is no room service outside of the kitchen opening at 7.30pm. Ordering something away from the Michelin menu for our 3 yr old was frustrating. A half portion of plain pasta with butter was $30 and arrived over an hour after we ordered - no bread. Cooking classes and a vineyard tour (we showed up and it had been cancelled) proved more difficult than one would imagine. I spent 5 weeks in Tuscany and this was the worst hotel of the bunch.

My husband and I stayed at Falconiere for 4 nights in late May/early June, 2008. We were traveling with another couple. We booked a suite (#45) and they booked a junior suite (#12). Ours was bigger and had a better view but otherwise the rooms were about the same. #45 is over the winery and has a ton of privacy but is a bit of a hike from the main area. #12 is adjacent to one of the pools and will be next door to the new spa building so it might not be so private in future; however it is well located and worth considering.

We had just come from Palazzo Sasso in Ravello and unfortunately, Relais Il Falconiere suffered by comparison. The owners of Falconiere are gracious and charming, but the service from their employees is not even close to what we experienced at Palazzo Sasso and also what we had experienced at Locanda Dell Amorosa where we have stayed before. One exception is "the girl who makes the omelettes" as another reviewer mentioned. She is great; friendly, smiling and helpful. Also the young man who acts as the valet is a nice kid and he works really hard. The rest of the staff is "so-so" - pleasant enough but not memorable like the staff at Palazzo or at Amorosa. It's not that they are nasty or mean, they just don't go out of their way. For example, at lunch one day we were basically abandoned by the server and never had a water or wine glass refilled. This is no big deal if they would just leave the water and wine bottles on the table but they put them just out of arm's reach on another table as if they were going to be taking care of it, which they did not.

Our room was comfortable but our friends' room was musty and hot; they also complained of ants and spiders. There was a cricket between the sheets in our room when I went to get in bed the first night and I found a silverfish-like bug in the bathtub one day, but I guess this is part of being in the country. It's just not something I expected I would encounter at this highly-rated property.

The bathrooms at Falconiere are a bit weird like many of the bathrooms we saw in Europe. There seems to be a desire amongst European designers to combine showers and tubs in a way that gives the user the worst of both worlds. Plus there is not enough shelving/storage for travelers' cosmetics and the normal supplies that hotels offer.

Compared to Amorosa I think Falconiere is overall a nicer property with better rooms (from what I experienced) and better views, however Amorosa is better located for visiting the Brunello and Chianti wine regions. Plus Amorosa's staff is nicer. The food is about the same at both places.

I wouldn't rush back to Falconiere but I wouldn't discourage anybody from staying there; it's basically a nice place, the owners just need to make some adjustments in the staffing and/or step up their staff training.

We stayed at Il Falconiere this Spring with another couple and we all agreed that this resort is one not to be missed. The views are spectacular, the food was exquisite, our accomodations exuded the charm of the Tuscan countryside and the staff was MOST ACCOMODATING!
We are a well-traveled foursome and with no hesitation would recommend Il Falconiere to our closest friends.

What an incredible experience! Beautiful beyond words. This wonderful, intimate, resort has so much to offer with the ambience, tuscan hills, and the incredible service. We joined the owner, Riccardo Baracchi, for a wine tour. What fun! He was so gracious and informative. You could sense his passion for his family and the joy he receives from producing the wines and olive oil. Cortona is wonderful...don't miss it!

The views from the property were spectacular and we had a lovely vegetarian meal (the tasting menu) at their restaurant. That said, there isn't much to the property itself and it was overpriced for what we received. Based on the website, I was looking forward to a place where we could lounge for a day or two after vigorous sight seeing, but the property just isn't set up for that. In addition, there was a lot of construction going on so workers were always running about. I enjoyed the views, but wouldn't go back - the room wasn't worth the money.
