What wonderful place in Tuscany. Everything about Il Falconiere was excellent. Service by all the staff was perfect. The food and the wine equally awesome. We highly recommend coming in this Relais and taking in all it has to offer. Cooking lesson, wine tour and spa treatments, wish we have stayed longer. We loved the location away from everything but not too far from Cortona. Looking forward to come back in Tuscany and to Relais Il Falconiere.

I stayed here for two days after a wedding in Montepulciano and the hotel is simply amazing. Very rustic but has all the modern touches, the food is top notch, the local wine produced on property is really good and the staff was nothing short of extraordinary. I will definitely be going back and spending more time there.

Nice property less than 10 minutes from Cortona. We stayed in one of the private rooms attached to the chapel at the top of the hill. Very glad we didn't stay in the main building (more privacy, quieter--definitely worth getting the upgrade for the privacy!) Staff was nice, the actual falcon was tethered outside our door. Food was good although our server Venus was excellent (very good breakfast, appetizers at dinner were excellent). Surrounding countryside was beautiful. Cons: only wi-fi by reception/breakfast area, unless you want to eat at the restaurant on the property, you need to drive elsewhere (i.e. Cortona) for a meal and the return at night can be a little nerve-racking (single lane road, no streetlights etc). Pros: beautiful location, quiet, nice thermal pool/spa area, good restaurant. One odd thing we noticed is that a large majority of the other guests were either recipients of (good) plastic surgery or were older men traveling with their much younger (trophy) wives. Since we were a younger couple, we didn't fit into either of those categories and thus felt a little out of place. Definitely not a place for families

Room Tip: ask for one of the deluxe doubles with a private entrance rather than stay in the main building

Stayed here with friends from USA for two nights having just moved from Relais Borgo Santo Pietro.
Quite frankly we wished we had stayed where we were.
Welcome was very unfriendly and staff generally seemed unhappy and unwilling to make us feel comfortable, it all seemed too much for them and its only May!! The only friendly helpful person we encountered was the night porter who helped us with our early check out and luggage.Give him a suit and a day job it would help!
As for the rooms, we had rooms in the tower, we do appreciate that it is a old building but the quality of the facilities, considering the supposed quality of this Relais property, was very poor to say the least. The bathrooms desperately needed refurbishing and updating, the bed was, we are sure filled with straw, and was so hard we were sure we both needed replacement hips in the morning! Towels were rough and as for hand towels , we were not sure if they were curtains that had been cut up! In fact they were so bad our American friend dried on the bathmat as it was in better condition.
Considering the Owner Chef, who we never saw, has a Michelin star the food was unexciting and with the wine very expensive compared with our previous hotel where the food and wine was far better and less expensive, but then we suppose a Michelin star means the food will cost more even if it is not as good.
The grounds were ok but not what was expected.
In all this hotel is in a nice elevated location with some nice features but not enough to wow its customers and encourage them to return again.
Certainly not what we expect to find from a Relais Hotel

Room Tip: Don't know what the rooms other than in the tower are like but may be worth chancing.

Dear Mr Trevjen-k,
Thank you for your review, and I’m sorry you are disappointed about your stay with us. Your room is the most romantic of the hotel with nice view on the Tuscan country side; our rooms have orthopedic mattresses, ideal for the position and for the well-being, but perhaps you are not accustomed to using. We are at disposal of clients that have special requests and we can easily change the room or provide soft mattresses if required, better to communicate your discomfort at the moment! We restored and made the bathroom in the tower last winter, of course in a style suitable to our old house date back 1650! About towels, we have the laundry inside the property and we are used to dry at open air, the scents of fresh of our linen is incredible, better than every acid smell you can find usually in most of the hotels around the world.
I spend my time into the kitchen cause I’m the chef and some time I’m not easy to meet because I’m busy to cook. About wines, we have a large wine list with many wines with a wide range of prices.
The staff is very welcome with all our guests and happy to show our facilities. There is many activity to be possible to attend at Il Falconiere: wine tour and tasting, spa treatments, cooking lessons, falconry. Maybe the bad wheather was the problem of all the situation.
I hope to see you again to show with new eyes our enchanting property and its facilities.

My husband and I had the privilege of staying there several weeks back. We loved every minute of it. From our arrival, to the moment we left, we felt welcomed and like family!! The staff are friendly and more than accommodating. We took part in the cooking school and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The chef, Richard, was a true delight and we came away confident we could cook many Tuscan inspired dishes for family and friends.

If you get the chance, I would thoroughly recommend staying here!!

I can hardly wait to go back!!

We stayed at Il Falconiere for 4 nights. We truly enjoyed the property and the staff. They have a great spa which we used daily. As honeymooners, they welcomed us with a bottle of their sparkling wine and gave us a wine bath when we purchased a massage. The wine bath was a very cool addition to the spa.

The rooms are a bit outdated and noisy for the price.

The restaurant is outstanding, however if you don't want a 5 star meal you have no other option. After a long day of touring we really wanted a simple dinner and that is not possible at the hotel. If you like having a 5 star dinner every night, Il Falconiere is the place for you. If you want to have both options I would suggest staying at other hotel.

Located at a 10 min drive from Cortona in the middle of vineyards, Il Falconiere has a nice view on the country and is very quiet. We had classic rooms at the top of a refurbished old building. The room are nice but the bathroom has only a small shower and is not at the level of a Relais et Chateaux. Other issue for connected people, the wifi doesn't work in the room and you have to go to the restaurant or close to the reception. The explanation is that the walls are too thick, they should learn what a relay is. The elevator is a bit noisy but it doesn't move much.
The personnel is friendly and is accommodating nicely your requests. We asked to put the table under the trees for lunch and we even brought part of the lunch from outside, it didn't raise any issue.
We had dinner at the Michelin one star restaurant and had the vegetarian menu. It was good, served timely and the wine list shows a good variety of Tuscanese and Italian wines at various prices.
The swimming pool was not heated and a bit cold but big enough. Apparently no specific service at the pool.
In summary, the location deserves a five star but I put only four for the room which would maybe need a bit improved (wifi again, bathroom and room tided up only at 3pm in the afternoon). A nice place anyway.
