“Wonderful place to slow down and relax in Italy - especially on our honeymoon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2009

This hotel was my favorite part of our honeymoon to Italy! First of all, the city itself is so beautiful and charming, but the staff at this hotel is amazing! The girls at the front edsk were by far the friendliest and most helpful we had experience in Italy. Our room was very big with a little sitting area and OK bathroom with a jetted tub (definitly just for one). Best party was the 2 double windows the open up to the crisp cool air and the wonderful Tuscan sunset!!! We were able to walk just about everywhere, but I enjoyed driving around as well (well, riding around while my husband drove down the crazy streets!). To top it off, the have a comp happy hour in the lobby with cocktails and appetizers, then after we came back from dinner, they had after dinner cocktails and biscotti! Breakfast was great as well. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel! We definitly want to go back!

My husband and I just paid a return visit to the Villa Marsili and can't wait until we can go back again. The rooms are so pretty and immaculately clean. The breakfast buffet is the best in Italy. The staff is friendly and very eager to help with anything you might need. There is a lovely cocktail reception for guests in the lobby every night (at least when I have been there). It is a very convenient walk to town which is so quaint. There are several excellent restaurants within walking distance. I can't say enough good things about the Villa Marsili.

We stayed at the Villa Marsili and could not have been more satisfied. Our room was immaculate! The location is great as it's just a short walk to the center of town. The staff was extremely friendly and made us feel at home. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and included a nice variety. All in all, it's a very comfortable hotel. We highly recommend it.

Reception
A very warm welcome (almost a little OTT) and bags actually carried to our room - a rarity in our experience. Offered to book us a table at restaurants and gave us recommendations which were in keeping with our previous experience of Cortona. I wasn't entirely enthusiastic about the aperitif session held in the sitting area but it's horses for courses I suppose and we weren't forced to attend. Had we stayed more than one night we probably wouldn't have bothered, but this was not a reflection on the beautifully presented hors d'ouvres.

Room

Quiet, clean, comofrtable -what more could you ask for.

Food

Breakfast was excellent, by far the best we have had for a long time. large selection of food.
available.

Location

Cortona is our favourite place in Italy. This was the first time we had stayed in a hotel here and the proximity to the centre of the town perfect. A 5 minte stroll up a slight incline gets you into the heart of the town.

Outstanding facility & great location. We enjoyed having a buffett breakfast available because we could eat and be on our way without worry about finding somewhere to eat. This buffett was pleantyful and enjoyable. Luanna and Guila were our favorites when it came to hotel reception staff. They made great restaurant recommendations and helped us with directions as well as making us smile. Cortona is a beautiful city. We never had a bad meal and certainly enjoyed the atmosphere.

If you have a rental car, parking is difficult. Be cautious of where you park as you may need to pay a meter fee located several hundered feet away from where you are parked.

We stayed at Villa Marsali for two nights in late September. And wish it had been longer. A beautiful-bright-clean and luxury hotel with fabulous staff, food, rooms and views. There is a reason this hotel received a trip advisor top award for 2009. Rooms are spotless--we had 28 I think--a little different arrangement--you put your key card in a slot inside your room and that allows all the lights to work. Great way of saving electricity when rooms are vacant. But they are not vacant for long. Beautiful fresh decorating--and decorative statues and paint--all fresh.
Breakfast is one of the tops we had on a two week trip--blood orange juice-fresh hot baked items-lots of cheeses- etc etc-and an attentive staff that serves coffee of your choosing.
Staff speaks fluent English and was helpful with every question.
In the evening--there a is a table of prosecco and wonderful tidbits to enjoy--either in the bright lobby or outside in a courtyard with tables and chairs.
The short 5 minute uphill walk into the historic town is very do-able--remember Italy is a country for walkers.
You get what you pay for-this hotel is tops and worth every dime.

From the moment we arrived a bit frazzled after driving Italy's chaotic roads, until three days later when we departed, we were embraced by the warm, caring staff at each turn. From the helpful and friendly breakfast staff to the attentive barman during the evening's aperitivo and the fantastic Iulia, Luana and Stefano at the front desk we were well taken care of at VIlla Marsili.

We stayed in room 37, a gorgeous "room with a view" on the top floor. A large (especially for Europe) room with a good-sized bathroom -- it did not disappoint. And what a view!!! Even the bathroom had a great view. All the needed amenities were there and a comfortable bed to end the day after climbing Cortona's steep hills. Great breakfast each morning served from 730 until a very civilized 1030 am.

We really enjoyed the little garden where we would sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon before a daily nap and then a great dinner -- the center of town is about 5 minute walk uphill and there are lots of nice little restaurants in Cortona .... free wireless was a nice plus too.

Don't miss this great Tuscan hilltown and friendly hotel. I am a long time reader and first time contributor to trip advisor after this terrific experience .....
