Hotel San Luca has a perfect location and offers beautiful views over the fields and lakeside of Tuscany/Umbria. Rooms seem to be not very spacious, but adequate for two. We had a room with balcony facing the beautuful landscape, and I would surely stay in this hotel next time visiting Cortona. Staff was very friendly and it was nice to stay in this hotel, although four-star classification may be a little bit too high for this hotel.Breakfast was ok, but nothing spectacular. Especially the breakfast staff were different from the people working at the reception; at breakfast there were no smiling faces or friendly attitude. But great value and unforgettable view for sure.

Room Tip: Rooms on the same side as room no. 80 have spectacular view.

Let's clear this up right at the beginning: this is not a 4 star hotel. Or at least not yet. They are trying to slowly upgrade some of the rooms but they have quite a ways to go. It is a family owned hotel so not part of any large hotel chain. The rooms are small. The bathrooms are adequate. The beds are moderately comfortable. But THE VIEW is fantastic if you have a front facing room (preferably with a small balcony.) The staff are very friendly, kind and helpful. I found the breakfast to be more than adequate with a glorious view too. Moderately priced hotel. The rooms need a full renovation but they were clean. The position of the hotel at the beginning of the shopping street is also excellent. The rooms are an O.K. size for one person but I think a bit cramped for two. If you get the view for a few nights this is an O.K. option.

For the hotel, I like to rate between 'very good' and 'excellent'. For the people, I want to rate 'double excellent'. Why? Hotel San Luca is located right inside the city wall of Cortona. Your GPS cannot take you to the hotel. Especially if you arrive from north or west, you'll end up at the big public car park south of the city wall. GPS will tell you to go through the city gate (which is ZTL except you plan to pay for the 100euro fine).

I was there without knowing what to do. Then, I call the hotel. Mariano picked up my call. Remember his name, Mariano. He probably is the greatest front desk in Italy.

Phone reception was not stable. I drove the wrong ways twice. He patiently stayed with me for nearly 10 minutes. Then, he realized I can never reach the hotel like that. He asked me to return to the public parking. Guess what! He drove down to the parking and lead our car to the hotel. omg, one becomes wordless when you receive great help in a desperate situation. I shall remember his face for a long time.

Close to the southern wall of Cortona, the hotel has panorama view everywhere. Breakfast deck, Gym deck, and more important, your room. Open the glass door inwards; push the curtain door outwards; you have your super panoramic view. If you dare to put a chair and seat in the balcony at night time, you'll see many shooting stars.

San Luca is a classic hotel. It has ash trays everywhere with 'no smoking' signs right above them. It uses dark color carpet which is out of fashion but gives you an idea what people like in the 70s. Washroom and shower are clean and powerful. Shower room is fairly spacious.

Wifi is weak in my room because it is in the far end of the hotel, a little trade off for the best view of Southern Cortona. A/C gives a funny odour occasionally. I cannot rate the hotel down. After the hospitality from Mariano, any imperfection becomes trivial matter.

I stayed at this hotel on my honeymoon in October 2013. The hotel is really nice. The staff is very friendly, and they go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay and a great time exploring this part of Italy. The location of the hotel is great, just a short cab ride from the train station, and when you step outside from the hotel, you are on the main street in the beautiful little town of Cortona. Turn around, and you have an amazing view of the Tuscan valley. The place is only maybe an hour or 1.5 hours by train from Florence too, so it's easy to make a day-trip out of that. The room we had was a little small, but it did have a set of window doors that opened up to the small balcony...great view from there. Plus, with so much to see and do, we spent very little time in our room anyway. Our honeymoon could not have been any better, and Hotel San Luca is one reason why.

This hotel was a stop on our three week journey through France/Italy and it was a beautiful surprise. We drove by motorbike, it was hard to find but luckily we had a sat nav. It is located in a small village which is beautiful. We spent two nights here. The hotel is a bit out dated and our room had a bit of a damp smell but the view from our room definetly made up for it! It was amazing. The hotel staff were very friendly, they let us park both motorbikes right outside the door. We had breakfast in the village in the mornings, not in the hotel, although the hotel did provide a basic breakfast. The restaurant next to the hotel was lovely but we loved the restaurants in the village. Just the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery! We would definetly stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!

This is a great hotel. And a very, very helpful staff. Although it is located parallel to the busiest street in this small town, it is quiet and very comfortable. The view from my room went on for mies and miles. Quiet happy with the breakfasts and the outdoor patio was very pleasant at the end of the day.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, obviously.

We are staying two nights and our breakfast this first day was possibly worst ever. The sliced cheese must have been several days old, the bread dry, the coffe was cold. The staff didn't fill up when something was missing. And my wife had to fetch her coat since there were no free tables inside.
