Our recent stay at "The Nest" (Il Nido) was more than we expected in every way. Location was perfect, quality of the house/grounds was perfect, friendliness of the owners was perfect. The owners' attention to detail was evident from the moment we met them. Tucked on a hillside overlooking a Tuscan valley, we felt that our privacy was honored in every way. The owners would quietly groom the grounds, tending to the many rose bushes & olive trees early each morning. One morning they even came with a delicious home-made apple cake, a speciality of the house, along with a bottle of champagne. Upon our arrival they had a hospitality basket of wines & olive oil, set on the table. Both bedrooms & bathrooms were of impeccable quality. The city of Cortona was very accessible, as were other cities in the area (Arezzo, Montepulciano, Prego, & Lake Trasimeno). We look forward to a return visit. Recommendation: Tour guide-Giovani (Rick Steves), Chef Ryan for an authentic Italian meal @ Il Nido.

We spent one gorgeous week at Il Nido in early September with our six-year old son. The house is immaculately clean and uncluttered, and furnished with some beautiful Tuscan antiques. The house is just the right size for a family of three or four. It was very nice having two full bathrooms. The view is unbelievable - it was blissful waking up to absolute peace and quiet and looking out the double doors of the bedroom to see the hills across the valley from us. The pool offers this same view, which gave a whole new dimension to "swimming". You could stare out at that view forever. There is a lot of space around the house for children to safely play. The whole property is fenced, and beyond it are the owner's olive groves. The unpaved road up the hill to the house is indeed adventurous, as another reviewer described it. We got used to it, but we tended to go down the hill only once a day. The owners are lovely people and take absolutely perfect care of the property. They live nearby (in Camucia - good supermarket there) and come by to water the flowers and clean the pool (and leave gifts for their guests...). They respected our privacy completely and were not intrusive in any way. I looked forward to seeing the Signora, and it did give me a sense of security knowing they were so accessible in the case of any problems (none came up). After our week at Il Nido, we spent another week near Lucca, but we definitely enjoyed the week at Il Nido more! The countryside in this part of Tuscany (and Umbria) is beautiful and it is generally more peaceful, quieter, more relaxing in this part of the country. Cortona is charming and is just a few minutes away. We also liked Castiglione del Lago, Perugia, Siena, Montepulciano.

We stayed in this picture perfect villa atop a hill side with spectacular views. The owners welcome and embrace you like family. Eating home made pasta ( made the wonderful owner) under the clear blue skies with the backdrop of the rolling hills. It was a dream. I can not wait to return

Room Tip: perfect and private. The drive up the hill at night a little tricky. No room service unless you take...

We just returned from our 2 weeks vacation at Il Nido. The house is beautiful located, full of flowers, very well maintained and provides impeccable views to the breathtaking valley. We had an adorable, relaxing time in and around the house and the wonderful pool. All is very well maintained until the smallest detail. The owners are extremely warm, friendly, generous and helpful. A solid car is needed to drive the unpaved roads up to the house, a kind of adventure the kids loved! Highly recommended for a small family looking for a 5-star house in full privacy in a quiet and pieceful setting. We will definetely return!

We have just returned from a wonderful week in Tuscany with our teenage daughters. The villa is the most charming villa we have ever stayed in. The interior was beautifully decorated and furnished with a phenomenal attention to detail. The owners have put their heart and soul into the making of this property. Very clean and beautifully maintained. Perched high on a hill just behind Cortona it offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. A car is essential to access this property . The pool was a welcome break from the Tuscan heat and used every day! Having received a welcome basket on our arrival we also received further treats during our stay! This also provided a perfect opportunity to check that everything was ok for us. They were very willing to please and very friendly. Our Italian improved with the conversations we had! A local shop (in a small village 5 minutes from the villa) provided everything we needed for self catering. Cortona is a charming Medieval town and we enjoyed exploring its many narrow streets. We also visited Montepulciano, Arrezzo, Assisi, Castiliogne and Lucignano. Not forgetting the stops at many vinyards on the way! We sampled much of the Tuscan cuisine but our best meal was at La Loggetta in Cortona. It was a stunning finish to our holiday. Already planning a return visit next year...one week was not enough!

We where recommended this villa from a couple that have a cooking business in Cortona and Australia. Absolutely fabulous. We were held up in a traffic accident and where late on arrival, but we were welcomed with open arms and a basket of goodies. The villa was all that you could ask for and more. The only down was the horrible road up to the villa, but this also grew on us daily.
The villa has every thing that you would want and more.
We would highly recommend this villa to anyone and everyone who wishes for a holiday away from the busy lives we all lead.

Il Nido is a wonderful place to escape from busy lives to get away from it all. With seclusion and privacy the house and pool surround by olive groves is perfect. Breath-taking views across the valley toward Montepulciano and beyond make eating out on either of the terraces a joy. The house is located within easy distance of many of Itlay's amazing sites. Day trips are possible to Rome, Pisa, Florence and Sienna, and then there an many other amazing places to visit closer, Assisi, Cortona, Perugia, Gubbio.
The house and pool were great for our family of four, the boys enjoyed exploring the garden for hours, when they were not splashing around in the private pool.
The house itself has everything you could ever need, the kitchen has many home comforts. The antique furniture through out has been restored beautifully and makes it feel very welcoming.
We stayed in the house during a very hot period, daily temp unseasonably hot at up to 40degrees but the house remained cool. With the beautiful fire place in the sitting room though we could imagine that it would also be a wonderful cozy winter get away - very romantic!
The owners are only to willing to help out with local knowledge for where to visit or eat or buy the best produce. They left use a basket of goodies on our arrival, including local wine, olive oil (made from olives grown at il Nido and biscuits and treats for the children.
I would recommend this house to many of my friends and family.
