We have visited Villa Rosa twice, and have had a wonderful time on both occasions. Set in olive groves under the walls of a Medici fortress, and a 20 minutes walk from the centre of Cortona and its piazzas and restaurants, it is an exceptional holiday destination. An old homestead, renovated to the highest standard, including wifi, it looks over hills and valleys towards Lake Trasimeno and the Chiana valley. Its pool is particularly inviting, deep and cool on hot summer days. Three hundred metres up the road is a charming bar, which will on request serve an evening meal on its terrace. The region includes Siena, Perugia, Assisi and Arezzo, with Florence within striking distance. I cannot but recommend Villa Rosa.

Thanks Sue, always a pleasure to see you again at Villa Rosa. As you say it is an ideal location (I would even say perfect!) for both Cortona and the wider Tuscan region.

Villa Rosa is a favourite destination where I have stayed a number of times and will keep going back. It is an ideal combination of rural idyll and urban convenience, being located a 5 minute drive or 20 minute scenic walk from the enchanting, historic walled town of Cortona, yet with a panoramic countryside view from its hillside spot.

Equipped and furnished to a very high standard and now with Wi-Fi for those unable to switch off, Villa Rosa provides an excellent base from which to explore the area - it is within striking distance of Arezzo, Florence, Siena and Perugia as well as the Montepulciano and Montalcino wine regions.

The owner provides a useful handbook giving details of the house but also ideas of places to visit, restaurants or bars to try or activities to be found nearby. Alternatively, you can just relax by the pool and unwind.

I would strongly recommend a visit - once you have been, you will want to return.

The location is stunning - wide views across the valley, private and tranquil. A beautifully renovated stone house that is modern and comfortable on the inside and comes with a stunning pool and garden to relax in. Olive picking was a bonus as we stayed and were happy to help with the harvest. Delicious peppery oil - divine. What an experience - just magic. Will be back.

We just returned from a week staying at amazing Villa Rosa. This property is impeccably maintained and has beautiful garden terraces with stunning vista views. My husband and I were traveling with our teenage son who also loved the property, especially his frequent dips in the pool. We have travelled all around the world and this place will hold a special place in our hearts and memories. If you are contemplating a Tuscan visit, don't hesitate to stay at Villa Rosa. We can't wait to come back!

We were lucky enough to share Villa Rosa for 11 nights with friends who are friends of the owner, Christine. What a little piece of heaven. The villa is beautifully appointed and has been very thoughtfully renovated, so that one cannot possibly want for anything. In addition Cortona is a wonderful town near which to be base for exploring Tuscanny. This has been truly a wonderful time and I would unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone.

“Tuscan Paradise”
Reviewed 22 August 2013 for a stay in March 2013

I have stayed at Villa Rosa on many occasions at different times of the year and have enjoyed it each time. The house is immaculately presented and in wonderful gardens with both kept in top condition by a good support team. The facilities are all you could need for a stay and the views and local wildlife are amazing.

There is a relaxing, tranquil and welcoming atmosphere in the house itself and the entire area, which forms part of a conservation area on the opposite side of the hill to Cortona. It is easy to reach Cortona itself (5mins drive, 15mins brisk walk) if you are looking for bars, restaurants or nightlife.

Arezzo, Florence, Siena, Assisi and Perugia are all easily driveable and there is a good train service south towards Rome or north towards Florence - the station is also only 15 mins drive away. Other hilltop towns including Montepulciano and Montalcino are around 30mins away in the heart of the Tuscan wine region. Food and wine, as you would expect, are excellent in this area and numerous local eateries provide a prime opportunity to explore the local cuisine. The area is also a goldmine of art, architecture and both Etruscan and Roman sites including the site of the Battle of Trasimeno. Cortona itself was home to Pietro da Cortona and Luca Signorelli and has excellent Renaissance architecture.

I would recommend Villa Rosa to anyone as an ideal base to explore southern Tuscany, or simply as somewhere to relax.
