This place had tiny, shabby rooms with no charm. The bathroom was clean, but the walls and floors were dirty. There was considerable street noise, but the rooms smelled moldy so we really wanted to open our windows. This place "welcomes" the visitor with a terrible dark and rusty (literally!) lobby. The young man at the front desk was “sick” and not available most of the time, although he was very nice while he was there. He gave us a key to the front door so that we could let ourselves in and turn on the lights while he was gone!

He did drive our car for us (!) and drove us back to the parking lot. He scraped the side mirror on the city walls, but luckily we had purchased the insurance policy to cover that. My room had no TV (I didn’t care), and the whole place smelled of stale cigarettes and musty mold. It was damp in there. The breakfast consisted of having to go to a café nearby and get breakfast there…no food on site (a complete surprise since I assumed that a so-called Bed & Breakfast would actually serve some breakfast!). In the morning when we were supposed to go to breakfast, the guy wasn’t there, so we didn’t know where to go. We ended up going on our own (and paying for it). There’s NO WAY that place deserved three stars. The city was charming, though, and the people were friendly and lovely. We would love to go back to Cortona, but we would stay somewhere else.

Totally FANTASTIC!! And we're picky! Great place! Super comfy, clean and super location! Very modern in the middle of medieval Cortona! Very nice and helpful staff but... if you need an elevator it won't work-- stairs only.

After several days of frustration with no luggage, it finally arrived only with the help of Andrei who could not have been more accomodating and helpful. The place is great with clean yet simple rooms and by far great sleep comfort. The only adjustment was the breakfast situation but after one day, we got into the pulse of finding the local community comforting and welcoming, With free parking outside the gate and easy walking to explore the town this place is perfect. A great value in the current financial situation and would recommend it for a base to explore the fabulous region.

My husband and I just returned from a 10 day trip to the French Riviera, Tuscany and Rome. We stayed at Le Gelosie for 2 nights and it was our favorite hotel of our entire trip. The location is fantastic as it is in the heart of Cortona. The rooms are very nice, clean and modern. Andreas, the owner, made us feel so welcome. He arranged an amazing wine tour which was only 35 euro/person. Since the hotel does not have a kitchen, they pay for you to eat breakfast at any one of three cafes which are about a 2 minute walk from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel!

Just returned from a great trip to Italy and had the pleasure of staying at this charming B&B for 2 nights. Located within the walls of Cortona just off the Piazza Signorelli we were pleased to find pleasant updated rooms - and I must say - the most comfortable beds we encountered during the whole of the trip - for 95 euros a night! Andre was there to greet us and assist in getting all of our luggage from the rental car and up the stairs. No elevators here - and like all of Cortona - requires good mobility. Parking is just outside the city walls in a designated parking area which is often crowded (especially during the day). Our car was safe there and no problems. The B&B provided a continental breakfast at our choice of three local cafes (dependent on the day - some were closed). This is a great location right in the heart of the town with the Teatro Signorelli within steps and the Piazza Republica a quick stroll away. Numerous shops, restaurants and cafes are just steps away and the local weekly street market is just in front of the Teatro. I highly recommend Le Gelosie. It far exceeded our expectations!

After arriving at the Carmucia train station, we weren't exactly sure how to get to Cortona, ) which is way up on the hill. We waited at the taxi stand and finally a taxi came, but he was there to pick up another couple. He agreed to come back for us, so 30 minutes later we got to the Gelosie. The only problem was that the street directly in front of the B&B was torn up for construction. There was a note on the door to call if we got there before 3 pm, so the taxi driver called for us and soon we were in the room. The room was fantastic, beautifully decorated, with a great bathroom and very comfortable bed. I had a great conversation with the clerk who spoke wonderful English and was very kind to us. Unfortunately, it rained almost the whole day we were in Cortona, but we shopped and ate (great panini from the grocery on the Piazza della Republica and the Pizzeria Flufans for dinner). The views from the town were fine and room was comfortable, so overall our day was fine, if not under a Tuscan sun. We were given a voucher to use for breakfast to use at any one of 3 local bars, but the next morning all 3 were closed by order of the health department (torm up street?). Oh well, we ate juice and paninis again for breakfast. That's what makes travel so interesting. I would recommend the B&B, but wish you better luck!

We just came back from a week's stay in Italy and managed to get 2 days in Cortona at Le Gelosie. I booked it based on reviews from this website and again, was not let down. First of all, it's a scary drive up the mountain and you just feel like you are not going the right way! But finally you find the entrance to the town, which is walled up like it's own little kingdom. That was so cool! We got a nice parking spot right outside the wall and walked up the cobblestone street to the place. It was so cute! It had the feel of an cozy cave with its low ceilings and rustic walls. The registration office was more like a living room! Andrea was wonderfully helpful!

Our room was cozy with beamed ceilings and tiled floors. The huge pluses were the modern bathroom, internet connection and satellite TV - yes! We loved wandering around the little town like the whole place was our little secret, finding restaurants and cafes in little nooks. The park in town was just lovely and the buildings seemed so historic. The view to the foothills below was breathtaking.

It was a little rough because we were there during super-SLOW season so not alot was open. But we had 2 dinners there: one at Osteria del Teatro, which is right behind the hotel. Very nice place, good dinner, great service. We are just more of the basic meat and pasta eaters and are not into fancy cuisine, but it was good! And the second dinner was at the pizzeria right across from the hotel. I don't recommend it, service was horrible, horrible, horrible, with the snottiest waitress in Tuscany! Otherwise everyone else was very nice to us!

Yes I'll admit I got to Cortona because of the movie, "Under the Tuscan Sun", and yes I did go looking for the house where the movie was filmed (and I found it - see photo attached). But I'm glad the movie inspired my trip here, because it was a lovely experience. I'll recommend it to anyone who loved that movie like I did and wants to have a nice Tuscan hotel to stay in!
