“Farm fresh food cooked to perfection”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

We visited Cortona in Sept 2013 and the owners of are accommodation introduced us to Paolo the owner. Glad he did as we were able to get a reservation and a table at this family run trattoria. Paolo has a farm out side Cortona and provides most of the produce for the trattoria. Lamb and chicken the first time we went were sensational, so fresh and tasty cooked simply but to perfection. The ambience of the place is perfect, like going to an Italian family home for dinner, everybody is a friend, met so many lovely people in the trattoria. The food is very reasonably priced, quite cheap when you compare to other trattorias in Cortona. Be aware, if you don't have a reservation, you will have a wait but it is worth it. Not many places in Cortona that have a line up outside the restraurant but here you will, a glass of wine calms all.
On the wine, we are struggling to find a wine we didn't like. The house wine was sensational and bottled wine on suggestion, couldn't be faulted. Now we are spoilt, nothing measures up in Australia. Would we go back, you better believe it. We tried to talk Paolo into coming to Australia, but to no avail. We went there 2 times in the few days we were in Cortona. Only because he wasn't open on Monday night. We tried other places to eat in Cortona, they were good but not in the same league as Paolo.
We met lots of really nice fellow travellers and locals while dining there. Try Vinsanto for dessert, mmmm but the star for us was the fresh chicken and lamb, grilled to perfection, with grilled verges and house red wine, I am getting hungry just writing this.
Remember to book or you will have a wait.

“Very Authentic Tuscany wild boar in the centre of Cortona prices.”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

Few steps from Piazza Reppublica, in the centre of beautiful ancient city of Cortona (highly recommended as well, much less known than Arezzo, but of the similar beauty) we found this small restaurant, full of local guests enjoying Sunday lunch (always a good sign). We hade to come back in about 25 minutes, but it was worth the waiting.
Two of us asked for antipasto Toscana, appetizers of crostini fegato, - baked bread spreaded by excellent home made liver paté, well seasoned, another bread with fresh tomatoes cut in small pieces, and some salami and local dried ham. Other primi piatti were pici all anatra a tagliatelle all anatra, both pasta with duck ragout. This was good, but not excellent, the duck taste was a bit hidden. Main course – twice Cinghiale, young wild boar, baked in the oven, large bowl full of meat pieces, no fat at all, delicately seasoned, excellent without any complaint. One had agnello, lamb baked on grill, with crispy sides, excellent and the last was pasta with wild boar, also very good. With appetizers we had half of litr of white wine, simple Trebbiano, with main course a litr of Chianti classico, which was much much better, very good. We paid about 90 Euro for the whole meal (we were unable to eat sweet dishes, which looked nice), which is a very good price.

“We were the only english speakers in a packed restaurant!”
Reviewed 26 October 2013 via mobile

When in Italy you know you have found a great restaurant with great food when you are the only non-locals and non-Italians in a packed restaurant at lunch time. We had unbelievable Porcini mushrooms (in season) and wild boar pasta, also in season. There were four of us and we all had great meals, all something different, and a we had a great experience. Wish we cold return here again for one of our best meal experiences in Italy!

“Outstanding”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

The meal we had at the Dardano in Cortona was the best we've had in four weeks in Italy. Be sure to try their truffle ravioli and a dish of porcini mushrooms. I had BBQ'd lamb that came from their own farm, All in all an incredible taste treat.

“One of the best meals in Italy”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

Our group of 7 have eaten at this wonderful Trattoria several times - last year and this year. The food is fresh and delicious and served by a wonderful waitstaff. The wine, served in carafes is very good. We would highly recommend trying out this small restaurant in downtown Cortona....try the truffle raviolis - to die for!
