The hotel entrance is on the first floor of an apartment block not far from central Florence. When arrived we rang the doorbell many times before anyone answered and we were told he had been busy, then later said he had been in the toilet. This was the son of a strange father and son combo, who subsequently proved to not know much about how to help the hotel guests. The father was a character but was rarely there, and reacted to perceived criticism with defensiveness.
